Near nuclear blowout, in Japan, near official business shutdown in US

YES, Nostradamus' spirits have permeated the air since the year 2011 dawned.

March 11 saw the 9.0magnitude earthquake and tsunami that almost knocked out the northern part of Japan. And the Fukushima nuclear plant almost scare the life out of everybody within breathing distance of Sendai and Fukushima; and a month after that fateful morn, Japan is still in the throes of a nuclear blowout.

Meanwhile, the African continent continues to see a People's Blowout of their Heads of state or government -- Egypt, Tuniasia, Yemen, Syria, Ivory Coast ... and the NATO-led forces in implementing a No-Fly Zone in Lybya has now led to a sort of "stalemate" because Presient for over 40 years Muammar Ghadafi refused to yield to US-led military might and diplomacy, and a prolonged "war" there might just lead to another decade of blowout in United States' "big brother" role in world affairs. WHICH brings back memories of the prolonged Vietnam war in the 1960s, and the invasion of Iraq by then President George Bush Jnr which must have contributed to the country's mounting debts...

WHICH meanwhile, almost cost US President Barack Obama his administration's nigh-government BLOWOUT. The PREDICTED SHUTDOWN was avoided by last-minute compromises by both the Democrats and Republicans (and I just read about this over CNN's news cast an hour ago as I write this post on Sunday Malaysian time 12.45AM April 10.

So as Malaysians go for state elections in Sarawak with polling set for April 16, will we see a continued slide into chaos and police state in dear NegaraKu.

Another death at the MACCof a senior Customs officer Ahmad Sarbani, re-echoes the mysterious death of Teoh Beng Hock some two years ago also at another MACC headquarters.

How many years of corruption must Sarawakians bear before they wake up,open their eyes to realise that their ballots they cast on April 16 may yet prevent a nationwide BLOWOUT of Malaysia's54-year-old democracy under the BN-UMNO regime.

DON'T THE VOTERS OF SARAWAK SEE THE SIMILAR FACES OF 30-YEARS-PLUS PLUNDER BY HOSNIMUBARAK OF EGYPT and TAIB MAHMUD'S PLUNDER OF THEIR LAND BLESSED WITH GOD'S GIFTED NATURAL RESOURCES MAINLY ENJOYED BY THE CHIEFMINISTER FOR THREE DECADES AND FAMILY AND CRONIES...?

tHE ANSWER, MY FrIENDS,IN NOT BLOWING IN THE WIND. iT'S IN THY SACRED HANDS HOLDING THAT SACRED BALLOT PAPER!

May God give thee wisdom to "V"ote wisely for Change cometh April 16. GBless, Amen/Amin

Taktik kotor dan keji PR hasut penganut Kristian

Posted: 09 Apr 2011 09:07 AM PDT

"Today the Council of Churches Malaysia has rejected the Government's 10-point solution on the al-Kitab. Vote against BN is a vote for Jesus. BN is an anti-Christ agent. Christians are being discriminated and rights in Constitution denied. Dont vote for BN. "If you are a true Christian, send this message to 8 other Christians."

Mereka memang memudaratkan keselamatan negara!

‘Biased’ Emphasis On Malays, Islam In History Syllabus, Says Historian - By Shazwan Mustafa Kamal.

Posted: 09 Apr 2011 01:41 AM PDT

Secondary school history textbooks are too Islamic and Malay-centric and have downplayed the contribution of non-Malays and other religions in the country's history, a historian said today.

Historian Dr Ranjit Malhi Singh also believed that "scant attention" has been given to the efforts of the Chinese and Indians in the development of the nation.

The author of history textbooks up until 1996 also charged that there were too many "half-truths and factual errors" in the current syllabus, and that it was laden with "value judgments."

"There should be no value judgment in our textbooks. It is the greatest sin in any history book.

"There is a lopsided emphasis on Islamic civilisation... five out of 10 chapters of the current Form Four history textbook deal with Islamic history whereby earlier the Form 4 history textbook only had one chapter on Islamic history," Ranjit said at a discussion organised by Catholic Teachers' Association at the Assumption Catholic church here.

According to Ranjit, "half-truths" and inaccuracies were evident in the existing syllabus. As an example, he said the history books have omitted the fact that Parameswara (founder of Malacca) was a Hindu prince from Palembang who died a Hindu.

He also said the current syllabus gave the wrong impression that the other races did not fight courageously in defending Malaya during the Japanese Occupation, and that only the Malay Regiment did so.

"Thousands of Punjabi, Gurkha, British and Australian soldiers died defending Malaya during the Japanese onslaught. Thirty-three of the 232 names on the Tugu Negara are Sikhs," said Ranjit.

The historian pointed out that the current Form Four history textbooks had reduced by more than 25 per cent of the text related to Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism compared to the previous syllabus (from 1,112 words to about 832 words.)

Ranjit lamented the fact that non-Malay leaders were not duly recognised in the history books.

"The current Form 2 history textbook has downplayed the role of Yap Ah Loy in developing Kuala Lumpur, it has just one sentence on him. Yap Ah Loy was why Kuala Lumpur became what it is today, he established the township... he initiated the KL-Damansara road, and was the first person to build brick shophouses in 1884," said Ranjit.

The majority of the 100-odd people who turned up for the discussion today agreed with Ranjit's findings.

Many of them, mostly non-Malays, expressed fears of an unbalanced teaching of history in the classroom, with specific emphasis only on Islam and Malays.

Some present today were heard whispering "pseudo-Islamisation" to each other during the discussion.

One parent, who did not want to be named, has begun a petition to demand a revamp of the syllabus.

"What kind of balanced proportion is this none? One civilisation that is glorified at the expense of others. History classes become more like 'agama' classes, children have no opportunity to learn about comparative religions," she said.

Ranjit said he had already contacted the director-general of education and planned to notify him of the suggested revamps to the history module.

He said that the Form 1-5 history textbooks should be reviewed to ensure factual accuracy and consistency and a balanced account of the country's history.

He also said the advisory panel and writers should be drawn from various ethnic groups, and that the textbooks should be devoid of value judgments.

"All history textbooks should be revised to ensure factual accuracy, consistency... right now they are not. What's more, all 17 authors of the books belong to one ethnic group. How can this be? You must have a balanced ethnic composition," said Ranjit.

He also called on the government to change the methods of teaching history to be geared towards active participation and live debates rather than memorising and regurgitating facts.

I believe the substance of this STAR's report...

Posted: 09 Apr 2011 01:26 AM PDT

WHICH IS A VERY RARE OCCASION!

From The Star Online:

Saturday April 9, 2011

Ahmad Sarbani would never take a bribe, says family

Reports by LOURDES CHARLES, NELSON BENJAMIN, FLORENCE A. SAMY, TEH ENG HOCK, LESTER KONG, YUEN MEIKENG, STEVEN DANIEL and AUSTIN CAMOENS

PETALING JAYA: Family members of late Selangor Customs Department assistant director Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed do not believe that the deceased was corrupt.

His younger brother Hassan, 53, said Ahmad Sarbani was a respectable man who would never have taken a bribe.

"My brother was a hardworking and responsible person. We do not believe he was corrupt," he said when met at the Customs Department quarters in Kelana Jaya yesterday.

He said that Ahmad Sarbani, the eldest of eight siblings, was a happy-go-lucky, friendly and caring person.

Hassan said he and his family were deeply saddened by reports in several dailies claiming that his brother was corrupt.

"Just look at how he lived. Certain media reports claimed he was involved in money laundering and corruption. Then why did he stay at the Customs quarters if he had so much money?" he said.

Hassan also hoped that the media would allow his family to grieve in private.

DESIDERATA:

That Ahmad Sarbani rode a motor-cycle to the MACC showed he was a humble man, not inclined to drive the latest model of an imported car which is quite the norm of civil servants who have reached a "senior" rank close to Ahmad Sarbani's.

I too believe that PM Najib Razak was too quick to take the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head's word that Ahmad Sarbani went to the MACC office voluntarily to make an amendment to a statement he had given to the MACC a few days earlier.

At 8.36AM in the morning? Voluntary?

You think Ahmad Sarbani would want to see more of his interrogators' faces, smiling eh?

Najib and the MACC owe the family of the late Ahmad Sarbani's family AN APOLOGY IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY PERCEPTION CREATED IN THE PUBLIC MIND THAT AHMAD SARBANI HAD COMMITTED "SUICIDE" FLOWING FROM ANY STATEMENT MADE BY ANY MACC OFFICIAL.

Desi believes that at the tremendous sacrifice of an innocent Malaysian life, there has been DIVINE INTERVENTION to throw more light on Teoh Beng Hock's case because if anyone recalled, in the very early days of TBH's death at the MACC SElangor Hq, the top officers ordered an investigation into Teoh's death based on suspicion of that young man taking his own life. YES -- A PRESUMPTION OF "SUICIDE" WHICH IS PREJUDICIAL TO ANY INVESIGATION!

Now how would MACC explain Ahmad Sarbani's death?

I thank God, or Allah to the late Ahmad Sarbani's family, for the mysterious ways Justice in Malaysia moves.
May God, however you deem Him to be, rest Ahmad Sarbani's soul in Heaven. May God/Allah be always shedding light, protection and forebearance on the family he left behind.

May God bless the GOoD people of Malaysia, and condemn those evil-doers who lurk in the darkest nook and cranny in high and dark places. ~~ Amen/Amin

I MET THE CARPETMAN MORE THAN A YEAR AGO. HE ASKED TO MEET THROUGH A MUTUAL ACQUAINTANCE BECAUSE HE WAS ALARMED THAT I WAS ABOUT TO REVEAL THAT THE CARPETMAN IS ACTUALLY ROSMAH'S BAGMAN. BUT THAT WAS NOT THE THING THAT GOT HIM ALL FLUSTERED. WHAT DID WAS THE REVELATION I WAS GOING TO MAKE THAT HE IS NOT ONLY THE CARPETMAN WHO IS ROSMAH'S BAGMAN BUT THAT HE IS ALSO HER TOYBOY.
I ONLY DO BUSINESS WITH ROSMAH, SAID THE CARPETMAN. MY RELATIONSHIP WITH ROSMAH IS ONLY FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES. I AM NOT SLEEPING WITH ROSMAH, HE PLEADED. SO PLEASE DO NOT TELL THE PUBLIC THAT I AM ROSMAH'S TOYBOY. THE IMPRESSION HE WANTED TO MAKE IS THAT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ROSMAH IS CONFINED TO THE BOARDROOM AND DOES NOT EXTEND TO THE BEDROOM.
WELL, THAT IS NOT WHAT MUMTAZ JAAFAR SAYS. AND WHO IS MUMTAZ JAAFAR? HEY, IF I START TALKING ABOUT HER THEN I WOULD ALSO HAVE TO MENTION HER RELATIONSHIP WITH SAIFUL, THE PERSON WHO ALLEGES THAT ANWAR IBRAHIM SODOMISED HIM. THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS VERY FOCUSED ON NAJIB TUN RAZAK'S EXTRAMARITAL AFFAIRS. SURE, EVERY MALAYSIAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS. AND EVERY MALAYSIAN ALSO KNOWS ABOUT HIM GETTING CAUGHT IN A PORT DICKSON HOTEL ROOM WITH ZIANA ZAIN. IN FACT, ISA SAMAD EVEN HAD PHOTOGRAPHS OF NAJIB CLAD ONLY IN A TOWEL WITH THE DELICIOUS YOUNG THING IN HIS BED. AND ISA HANDED THE PHOTOGRAPH OVER TO THE THEN PRIME MINISTER TUN DR MAHATHIR MOHAMAD. (AND THAT IS WHY MAHATHIR JUST DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NAJIB WOULD CHOOSE ISA TO CONTEST THE BAGAN PINANG BY-ELECTION WHEN IT WAS ISA WHO TRIED TO BRING NAJIB DOWN WITH THE PHOTOGRAPH).
ANYWAY, LET'S NOT DIGRESS TOO FAR. AS I SAID, EVERY MALAYSIAN KNOWS ABOUT NAJIB'S EXTRAMARITAL AFFAIRS. BUT HOW MANY ALSO KNOW THAT ROSMAH HAS A PENCHANT FOR BOLLYWOOD TYPES. IN DUE COURSE MORE WILL BE REVEALED ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE CARPETMAN AND HOW HE HAS SERVED ROSMAH. TODAY IS NOT THE TIME TO DO THAT THOUGH. The true situation in Malaysian! By CCM Youth!

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 11:31 PM PDT

In a lengthy 10-point statement, the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) Youth did not mince its words in dismissing the 10-point solution offered by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala.

It said that the "quick-fix" proposal ignored the "the overt and covert manner which the government had discriminated against the Christian citizenry for close to 40 years".

The following is CCM Youth's press release expressing its views in response to the various statements issued by the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM), the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF), the 10-point solution as proposed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala, and comments made in the media by the Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and various parties.

1. 10-point proposal only addressed the Al Kitab issue

The 10-Point Proposal presumed that Christians were only concerned with the Al Kitab issue. That premise is incorrect.

The 10-Point Proposal distracted both the public and the church leaders from getting to the heart of the matter, that is, the concern over the overt and covert manner which the government had discriminated against the Christian citizenry for close to 40 years that had resulted in the gradual deterioration of basic rights of Christians to freely exercise their faith.

2. Restore full rights and full freedom enshrined in the federal constitution

CCM Youth denounced deplorable accusations that Christians were not being "fair" or "reasonable" in resolving the Al Kitab matter. CCM Youth disclosed that the Malaysian government had unreasonably and unjustly acted in bad faith since the early 1970s to-date against the Christian community. Among some examples were:

  • Gradual erosion of the control of mission schools which included even the physical removal of words such as "Holy" and crosses from schools, even though the land, building and board of governors belonged to the church;
  • Removing or disallowing "Christian Fellowships" from being recognised as societies in schools and universities;
  • Harassing and transferring out Christian teachers found teaching Bible Knowledge, a legitimate examinable subject for the SPM;
  • Gazetting the Al Kitab, the Bible in Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, as a threat to national security under the Internal Security Act;
  • Denying the use of the word 'Allah' for the Christian God, even though it had been used by indigenous groups way before independence, and being the only Muslim country in the world to do so despite wide Arab usage;
  • Denying Christians land to operate churches or cemeteries.

And the list goes on.

CCM Youth was saddened that Christians today were openly abused, harassed and provoked in the media and encouraged by the government, with all sorts of erroneous information being placed on official government websites put up as decrees; linking activities from Valentine's Day to 'poco-poco' to crosses on football jerseys, to Christian beliefs without so much as a dialogue or a clarification with the Christian community.

So much so that even the Islamic government machinery, with nods from cabinet ministers, the Home Ministry and state governments, unashamedly encouraged over-zealous religious officers and Islamic-based NGOs, to propagate and sow seeds of hatred towards the Christian community.

CCM Youth was informed that recently a group of students went for an excursion to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and were denied entry just because their uniform had a cross.

After so many years of racial-religious polarisation under the hands of government machinery, religious and racial bigotry is now blatantly practised and widely nurtured in government departments against Christians.

CCM Youth believed that the 10-Point Proposal was superfluous as Christian citizens were not asking for anything extra, but for their basic constitutional rights, enshrined in the Federal Constitution, to be respected and honoured.

3. Christians' birthright to read, speak and write in the national language

CCM Youth opined that it was ludicrous to deny Malaysian Christian citizens the right to use the country's national language for the purposes of exercising their faith.

On the one hand, non-Malay citizens are often criticised for their purported lack of loyalty when they did not speak Bahasa Malaysia, but when they did, like in this case in order to read the Bible, which they had been doing for generations, they were denied that right.

CCM Youth reiterated that as citizens of this country, it was their God-given birthright, which "should not be given up, negotiated, traded away, nor 'sold for a bowl of pottage'", being simply rushed into just because Christian leaders were offered a "quick-fix" solution to the immediate problems that were originally created by unjust parties.

4. The 10-point proposal does not carry the weight of law

CCM Youth decried attempts to create a 'band-aid' compromise solution that did not carry the weight of law. If the government were truly sincere, there would not be a need for a 10-Point Proposal.

Insofar as this matter was concerned, all the government needed to do was to instruct the Home Ministry to drop its appeal on the 'Allah' issue, which the Catholic Church won on Dec 31, 2009 when it took the case to the High Court. This action would immediately lead to the withdrawal of the Allah and the Al Kitab from any further restrictions in the country.

CCM Youth urged the government to uphold democratic principles and not play games by taking a round-about route that did not reflect their sincerity.

5. 10-point proposal sows disunity amongst Christians

The 10-Point Proposal served only to promote disunity amongst Christians, playing to the ruling government's 'divide-and-rule' tune. CCM Youth questioned how it could be plausible for a 1Malaysia, yet a 2Bible and 3Rule solution?

NONEIf at all, it only cemented CCM Youth's opinion that 1Malaysia had been nothing but political rhetoric.

If Christian leaders had agreed to this proposal, the Orang Asal of Sabah andSarawak would have one rule; while believers in the peninsula, including the Orang Asli, would have another rule.

Should Christians subject themselves to such confusion and be manipulated to accept such terms? Likewise, by agreeing to such terms now, would Christians then forfeit the right to resolve future outstanding matters beyond the Al Kitab issue?

6. No guarantee that pledges or assurances will be honoured

Time and time again, the Christian community have been given assurances but only to be disappointed later on. CCM Youth urged church leaders to be wise, for what had been dressed as compromise could turn out to be an entrapment – "Even the elect were deceived, if that were possible."

CCM Youth pointed out that they were well aware that there were many obstacles ahead, and they understood the "card game was in the hands" of the government.

Even if the federal government gave the impression of giving way, they could fall back on the state government machinery that would kick in and take that to another gear which involved harassing book stores, printers, forwarding agents, schools and so on, located in affected states.

7. The tipping point - today's decision will impact future generations

CCM Youth urged church leaders to take their time and not to be in a hurry. It was imperative that they did not fail future generations, or act in a manner that could adversely undermine or enslave future generations from practising their faith freely.

CCM Youth urged church leaders to remain faithful and to take as much time as they needed to ponder and to ask pertinent questions without compromising the faith.

Otherwise, future generations would return to remind past generations of leaders of "compromises" made today, or that the church leaders held silent when they could have spoken up, having restrained themselves from pursuing justice when they had the opportunity to do so.

CCM Youth urged church leaders not to worry about having to come to a decision by the CFM's Biennial General Meeting on April 14, 2011, but to take ample time to pray and seek the Lord before coming to a decision.

CCM Youth reminded church leaders that even the youths today were still learning the full extent of the rights that had been eroded to-date as events unfolded, and CCM Youth would endeavour to support church leaders to their best of abilities to recover that which was lost, and hand over full freedom to future generations as their legacy.

8. Are we speaking to the right party with the authority?

With due respect to Senator Idris Jala, CCM Youth raised concerns that there were no assurances that he had the full weight of the cabinet behind him in this regard, given the underlying tones and lack of media support from cabinet ministers. Even the prime minister himself had been strangely silent.

From remarks given by the home minister and various "shadow gatekeepers", there had been no assurance that the relevant ministries would honour any form of agreement. What remained consistent so far had been the consistency of the government's inconsistencies. The danger of flip-flops was not a probability, but a given.

CCM Youth believed that this rush to force a solution was inadvertently linked to the outcome of the Sarawak elections and the potential impact from its Christian majority population.

CCM Youth observed that it was this careless 'short-term opportunistic' attitude of the government for political expediency that had made them wary of such overtures and advised church leaders to exercise greater caution under such circumstances.

If the government were sincere in addressing the grievances of the Christian community, CCM Youth believed that nothing less than the coming together of a task force from the Prime Minister's Department, the Home Ministry, the attorney-general, the Education Ministry and all state governments and Islamic departments had to take place.

9. Sorry seems to be the hardest word

NONECCM Youth pointed out that it was Idris Jala (centre) who apologised.

So far, no official statement of apology had been offered by any ministry, especially none was forthcoming from the home minister, the main protagonist who directed the stamping of the Bibles.

The public ought to know that this entire episode of the desecration of the Christian's Holy Scriptures happened during the holy month of Lent which precedes and commemorates the Lord Jesus Christ's crucifixion and celebrates His resurrection.

If an opportunity presented itself for reconciliation and restoration to properly right the grave wrong committed, CCM Youth would certainly offer forgiveness. Obviously, the situation had yet to present itself.

10. Christian cabinet ministers must take leadership

CCM Youth noted that except for Idris Jala, many Christian cabinet ministers have kept silent. One cabinet minister even called Christians foolish for holding prayer rallies. CCM Youth challenged cabinet ministers to be faithful and to choose today whom they served - whether God or man.

CCM Youth reiterated that they were not being unreasonable, audaciously demanding or stirring trouble. CCM Youth regretted that for a long time, the church had remained silent, having compromised when it should not have.

In good faith, church leaders had been drawn into endless unproductive closed-door meetings, given verbal promises and handshake agreements that never materialized.

Unfortunately for the church, Christian goodwill had not been reciprocated, and closed door agreements never honoured. The recent desecration of the Al Kitab was the last straw.

CCM Youth called upon all Christians today to rally firmly behind their Christian leaders as they worked towards a resolution for the community. CCM Youth urged the Christian community to uphold their leaders in prayer more fervently.

CCM Youth reiterated that they remained committed to nation-building and bringing about justice, peace and reconciliation for all Malaysians and migrants, and would stop at nothing to bring about change for the betterment of all peoples regardless of creed, race or religion, through proclaiming truth and bringing about justice and transformation to the nation.

No such thing as freedom of the press in M'sia! Newspaper blatantly bias towards BN!!

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 11:29 PM PDT

Four Sarawak local mainstream newspapers from different languages yesterday published special pullouts that highlighted BN and Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud's contribution to the state, drawing accusations of campaigning for the ruling coalition.

Among the local editions of four dailies, three are owned by Umno-linked Media Prima - New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro, and another is owned by timber tycoon and media mogul Tion Hiew King - Sin Chew Daily.

NONEThe special supplements applauded the "development politics" concept introduced by Taib and illustrated that the Sarawak economy is at its peak, and the state will become a developed industrial state by 2020.

The pullouts published by Harian Metro had 12 pages, New Straits Times and Berita Harian had 24 pages respectively, while the pullout of the nation's best-selling Chinese daily Sin Chew Daily had 48 pages.

All four pullouts highlighted BN's achievements in various sectors, including Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score), tourism, agriculture, land titles of NCR, lower land renewal premium and Bakun dam.

NONEThe pullouts only focused on information related to BN and none on the opposition. It was not stated whether they arecampaignadvertisements.

However the content is very similar to BN's manifesto launched on Thursday which vowed to develop Sarawak into a developed state by 2020 and the richest state by 2030.

Sin Chew Daily's pullout, titled '10th Sarawak state election special report', claimed Taib had transformed Sarawak during his 30-year tenure, hence he was dubbed the 'architect of modern Sarawak'.

It also described SUPP president and Deputy Chief Minister George Chan as 'father of Miri''s development' who managed to develop the oil city to surpass Sibu and become Sarawak's second largest city in 15 years.

Chan is seeking his seventh consecutive term as assemblyperson for Piasau, a seat located in the parliamentary constituency of Miri.

NONEThe pullout also rebutted many allegations by the opposition, claiming that Sarawak still retains 80 percent of its forest, Malaysia's fuel price is the cheapest in the region, increasing bumiputras' income through the development of NCR land, and that the Bakun dam will provide sufficient energy for Sarawak's industrialisation.

'The media should remain neutral'

Wong Meng Chuo, coordinator of election watchdog Sibu Election Watch, pointed out that the media should maintain neutral during elections and refrain from publishing such publicity material.

However, he was not surprised as this had happened in the last state polls.

"Judging from the content, they should be categorised as advertisements but they were reported as news.

Wong added that the exploitation of media by the BN would definitely affect the election result in favour of the ruling coalition.

BABY BOOMERS = THE ALZHEIMER GENERATION

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 11:23 PM PDT

What diseases do doctors fear most for themselves? I posed this question to my mom's cardiologist at his clinic last week. Without hesitation he said "Stroke and dementia."

I don't have direct experience taking care of a stroke patient. But caring for my mother who has dementia has given me a first-hand look at what the disease does to a person. I agree with the doctor. I too pray I won't suffer this debilitating disease in my old age. A family member went as far as to say (and I quote from his text message) "Wouldn't wannna stay in body if brain functions impaired".

One of the most common forms of dementia is Alzheimer's Disease. It is a progressively degenerating disease that has no known cure at the moment. In Singapore, dementia is a time bomb that is waiting to explode. By 2020, an estimated 50,000 Singaporeans will have some form of dementia.

Several days ago I received an email from Diana Wright of Alzheimer's Association. Here's what she wrote:

"The good news is that death rates for many major diseases - HIV, stroke, heart disease, prostate cancer, and breast cancer - are declining. Sadly, we can't yet say the same about Alzheimer's. This year, the first of the Boomer Generation turns 65. To bring urgently-needed attention to the risk facing the Boomers, Alzheimer's Association recently released a groundbreaking study - Generation Alzheimer's: The Defining Disease of the Baby Boomers.

We'd love your help in getting the word out on SeniorsAloud about the important information in Generation Alzheimer's, so we can make sure the public understands what can be done to conquer this devastating disease."

While Alzheimer's is not normal aging, age is the greatest risk factor for the disease. This report conveys the burden of Alzheimer's and dementia on individuals, families, government and the nation's healthcare system.

No Need RCI On Sex Video, Prostitution Not Criminal, Say Lawyers - By Debra Chong.

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 11:06 PM PDT

Several lawyers fired Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz for calling for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on a sex video said to feature Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on grounds of prostitution.

The lawyers insisted that prostitution is not illegal in Malaysia though soliciting for sex is, saying that the de facto law minister would be challenged to prove his case even following the standard criminal procedures.

Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee denounced Nazri's remark as off-the-mark and said the Bar is against the establishment of an RCI just for the sex video clip incident.

"If there was a criminal offence, then it should be investigated as such," he told The Malaysian Insider in a response to the minister's statement yesterday.

"Prostitution is illegal in Malaysia. If you participate, or you are aiding and abetting in prostitution, if you patronise prostitutes for sex, this is a crime. The RCI would be to determine the identity of the man in the video and of the woman he was having sex with, whether she was a prostitute," Nazri had told The Malaysian Insider yesterday.

Anwar has denied he is the man in the grainy 21-minute black-and-white video clip, first shown on March 21 to selected journalists.

Lim pointed out that there are clear provisions relating to prostitution.

"Prostitution in itself is not a criminal offence," he stressed, though he acknowledged there were certain provisions in the law to prosecute those who offer sex in exchange for money.

He pointed to section 372A of the Penal Code which provides for action against persons living on or trading in prostitution.

"Whoever knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to fifteen years and with whipping, and shall also be liable to a fine," Lim said, citing the law.

He said the law had even defined that only a person who "is proved to have exercised control, direction or influence over the movements of a prostitute in such a manner as to show that that person is aiding, abetting or compelling the prostitution of the prostitute with any other person" can be charged.

Lim pointed out that under the Commissions Enquiry Act 1950, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong holds the discretion to set up an RCI on matters he thinks are of public importance.

He advised the Cabinet to reject Nazri's idea, saying it was a waste of time and resources, which could be put to better use resolving long-standing issues, such as the Sabah illegal immigration crisis, alleged corruption of the Sarawak chief minister and the most recent death in the MACC's building.

"The Cabinet must give greater priority to far more urgent and grave problems plaguing the institutions of the nation than adulterous conduct of an individual, allegedly a politician," he said.

Andrew Khoo, who heads the Bar Council's human rights committee, agreed with Lim's view.

"An RCI is there for matters of national importance and I'm not talking about an individual who holds no particular government office," he told The Malaysian Insider.

He noted that previously the government pushed for royal investigations only when it dealt with allegations of improper behaviour on the part of the government.

"In the RCI on V.K. Lingam, the issue was on the impartiality of the judiciary. In D.P. Vijendran's, he was the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat at that time," Khoo said, naming some examples involving prominent politicians which justified the need for a royal investigation panel.

"Here, the question is: 'What institution of government is being compromised?' The answer is, there is none. So why do we need to accord it that level of investigation?" he asked.

He further questioned the need for special treatment on the sex video in Malaysia where there were valid laws to deal with lawbreakers and the alleged sex act has nothing to do with protecting or safeguarding the institutions of government.

He insisted that on that reason alone, the suggestion for such an RCI should be buried immediately, "otherwise there will be an RCI for every single thing recorded, even on phones".

"If that's the case, then any evidence you have on a video of a sex act, does that necessitate an RCI? Is that what Nazri is suggesting?" Khoo asked.

Criminal law specialist Cheow Wee felt the same way.

He found it incredulous how Nazri could suggest an RCI for a sex act caught on video that was simply unfounded allegation, that it featured an MP, that had yet to show elements of soliciting for prostitution, as defined by the Penal Code.

He pointed out that calling for an RCI at this stage was premature as the police have yet to wrap up investigations.

"What crime are they complaining about? Are they saying it's wrong for two consenting adults to have sex? Or that Anwar can't have sex? Or that soliciting was involved, that money was exchanged? We don't even know if there is prostitution in this video. And so what if it's Anwar and he is having sex with another person?" asked the criminal lawyer, who is also taking part in the ongoing RCI into the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock while under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) watch two years ago.

"It's a moral and ethical issue at the end of the day because members of Parliament and ministers are expected to have high moral standing, but you don't need an RCI for that," said Cheow, adding that the issue was being manipulated for political mileage.

He said the police should instead probe if there were any criminal offences being committed by the group that called itself "Datuk T" who admitted to being responsible for showing the sex clip in public.

Former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim have claimed responsibility for the video, saying they screened the video to show "a man who wants to be prime minister is not qualified."

A 107-second snippet surfaced on the Internet on Sunday, just two days after police said the video was not doctored.

It made public part of the video that was only screened to select individuals and reporters prior to this but the clip has since been taken down from YouTube for violating the video site's policy on nudity and sexual content.

Cheow urged the authorities to take action against the trio because they had violated the rules by showing a sex video that could not earn them the protection of the Whistleblowers Act.

"There are procedures they have to abide by if they want to be within the ambit of protection. But they went straight and showed it in Carcosa," the lawyer said.

Janggut Anwar Gagalkan Video Blue Rahim Thamby Chik

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 10:08 PM PDT

Tulang Besi melayari blog-blog UMNO sekejap tadi.

First Quarter 2011: Signs of the End Times Checklist

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 09:37 PM PDT

The signs of the End Times are described in Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, Daniel 10, 11 and 12, and various parts of Revelation and Old Testament prophets.

Although people throughout history have believed that so-and-so happenings mean that the End Times are upon us, recent events have piqued my curiosity regarding this subject.

This is not really a serious attempt to predict when we're all doomed / gonna be raptured, but here goes:

————————————-

Earthquakes

There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. – Matthew 24:7-8

Earthquakes have been extra plenty in recent months.

The first, big one in Japan this year was tied to…

————————————-

Roaring and tossing sea

On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea – Luke 21:25

Tsunami!

Which caused…

————————————-

Fear and signs from heaven

There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. – Luke 21:11

Someone had suggested global warming as the 'fearful events and great signs from heaven', which is unfounded since global warming is unfactual. Even so, it still has the fear, whether rational or not.

Anyway, running on the same concept, the Fukushima reactors problem (thanks to the earthquake shutting down outside power and the tsunami shutting down the backup generators) has led to radiation being found everywhere around.

For a while there was a fear that a radioactive plume would float over mainland USA, which though now disproven, still counts – as only the fear is needed.

——————————–

Famines

There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. – Matthew 24:7-8

Famine has always been a looming fear due to 'overpopulation' (which has taken its own sweet time to come to pass, sorry Mathusians). However, green idiocy in the form of food-based biofuels which caused food price spikes and riots in 2008 certainly doesn't help.

And hey, if Japan-sourced food being banned can tie this is to the earthquakes again, why not?

————————————-

Wars & rumours of wars

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. – Matthew 24:6-7

The Middle East at present. Although wars are always happening throughout human civilization, it's especially poignant because the Arab and African states are currently either already in civil war (e.g. Libya), or have a good chance to end up in revolution (e.g. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia). Hence the 'rumours' part is very strong.

Additionally, Biblical prophecy mostly focuses on Israel and her neighboring nations, i.e. the Arab states.

This unrest may likely lead to…

————————————-

Nations attack Israel

Too many passages to list, but for an example, see this slightly outdated page and just one from Jesus:

When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. – Luke 21:20

Once the abovementioned revolutions are through, most likely the government will either be Islamist or else be friendly/non-hostile towards Islamists. Cases in point: Egypt, Ivory Coast.

These states, whose former governments were wisely cowed by Israel's military superiority, will either wage proxy (e.g. support terrorist actions like this) or outright war on Israel (as they have already declared).

This will happened either immediately (ref the preceding link above) or when the hopeless lack of administrative skill and leadership cause the regimes to fail epicly, whereupon they will go the usual "It's the Jews' fault!!!" route and use them as a bogeyman to deflect public anger outwards.

When this happens, Israel will stand alone due to the UN's bias and America's non-involvement (see next point). This is especially if Obama is still President at that time… He has a well known and overt anti-Israel streak and won't be assisting Israel anytime soon. See also next point.

And on a related note, I associate this attack that signals the coming of the 7 years of the tribulation with that scene in Left Behind: The Movie.

—————————–

Russia (Gog & Magog) is mentioned in prophecy, but America is absent

This is odd, because if America is the world's foremost power and a close ally of Israel, surely it will take part in the End Times?

I've read a post about how as Iran heads towards nukes, and American under Obama is weak-kneed about stopping them, Russia is once again the patron and strong horse that the Arab states look to for maintaining stability in the region. See an example here.

America is not in prophecy simply because they shirk from taking part in it.

Btw, if everyone is so up in arms about ending the use of nuclear energy ref: Fukushima, why is there no objection to Iran's pursuit of allegedly peaceful nuclear power? As this cartoon by Michael Ramirez points out:

———————————–

Gospel preached to whole world

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. – Matthew 24:14

Apart from the Bible already being translated into thousands of languages already, there is a school of thought that looks at the centre of strong Christianity over the centuries. From Israel it has continually moved westwards – to Turkey, to Greece, to Rome, to Germany, to England, to America, and now in the process of moving to China. Which leaves back to Israel to complete the circle.

————————

Persecution of Christians

You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. – Luke 21:16-17

Just head over to Barnabas Fund – hope and aid for the persecuted church and check out the News for the latest atrocities being carried out against Christians, simply because they are Christians and refuse to denounce Christ.

Just a few examples: Nigeria; the same Ivory Coast link as earlier; and of course, Egypt (this one is really ironic on the 'family turning on family' part), continued and continued.

So I highly encourage you to allocate some of your tithe to Barnabas Fund donations to help those believers who don't even have the right to live, let alone worship freely or choose their own religion. I donate online via credit card.

And lest you think this is a third world problem, here's the hatred part as demonstrated in the first world:

And that's just a snippet of the Faith Under Fire category.

—————————

Afternote

Well if the End Times come soon, that clashes with my own pet theory that the Second Coming of Jesus will be sometime around the 2030s.

My reasoning is that according to the timing from Daniel's vision (Daniel 9:24-27) the coming of the Messiah brings it not to the day Jesus was born in a manger, but to exactly the day of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. I got it from New Evidence That Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell, here's an excellent a roundup of those calculations – under PART FOUR.

Therefore, 1000 or 2000 years from that point is around 1030 A.D. or 2030 A.D., not the nice round turns of the millenniums that keep getting people so hysterical. We also have to factor in that Jesus' birth made 1 B.C. become 1 A.D. without any 'year zero', and the 'prophetic year' being based on twelve 30-day months.

But remember… However good our guesses may seem, no one knows the day or hour it will come to pass (Matthew 24:36 & 42)

Kenapa Eskay Tak Tunjuk Jam OMEGA Tersebut

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 09:32 PM PDT

Hairan jugak saya. Berani tuduh. Berani panggil press conference. Berani maki Anwar. Berani kata itu, kata ini. TAPI!!!!!, sikit pun tak berani nak tunjuk jam OMEGA Anwar yang dia kata dia simpan tu.

Walaupun dia nak serah ke Polis, tapi masa buat Sidang Akhbar tu, dia belum serah lagi, KEnapa tak tunjuk pada media? Sekurang-kurangnya tunjuk gambar jam tangan tu serta beri nombor siri.

Tapi sikit pun ESKAY tak berani. Lepas tu juak2 UMNO pula cabar Kak Wan tunjuk jam tu.

Law minister gets law completely wrong.

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 09:10 PM PDT

I've written something about Sarbani, will see where/when it will get published.

For now, something of interest I just read on TMI:

"The RCI would be to determine the identity of the man in the video and of the woman he was having sex with, whether she was a prostitute," Nazri had told The Malaysian Insider yesterday.

Anwar has denied he is the man in the grainy 21-minute black-and-white video clip, first shown on March 21 to selected journalists.

Lim said prostitution in itself is not a criminal offence.

A number of interesting things. It appears it is not illegal for a woman to accept money for her services (although it is illegal to solicit – ie, to offer to sell her services), but it is illegal for someone else to profit from such a sale. Basically, sounds like there's legal space for a prostitute to operate but not for a pimp. This would probably be considered surprisingly progressive.

Of course, I'm sure there are many who would disagree. We shall see if these state of affairs survive.

In any case, more to the point, our Minister for legal affairs seems to be ignorant of the law. I'm glad he was called out by Lim Chee Wee, who seems to be vigorously carrying on the tradition of a vocal Bar Council which grounds its positions on solid foundations (I confess, I didn't realise he had taken over as President – thanks Ragunath for all your great work!).

It is distressing to see Nazri completely misquote the law; he has in the past demonstrated a modicum of intelligence, although if ministers like him has had as much brains as bravado, perhaps we wouldn't be in such a sad state of affairs.

While I'm not saying that the video isn't of interest to the public and will probably continue to be an issue in Malaysian politics for a while at least (whether we like it or not, and I know many have expressed just how much they don't), I concur w/the rest of the views in the TMI article.

This issue does not seem to merit the same level of inquiry as say the VK Lingam video or Teoh Beng Hock's death. Altantuya and the cops her apparently murdered her with no discernible motive did not get an RCI either.

In any case, RCI or not, I think my thoughts are mostly on Sarawak and Sarbani. Just felt like writing about our rather silly law minister.
