Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah: Loteri UMNO 1951 (Siaran Ulangan)

Barulah kita tahu siapa sebenarnya UMNO. Telunjuk lurus, kelingking berkait.

Kat luar cakap nak memperjuangkan Islam tapi sejak penubuhan mereka lagi kuat makan duit haram.

Maklumlah, dah nama kerajaang perpaduang, kenalah jaga hati kawan-kawan)

Asian pop star Edison Chen in trouble his Oral Sex with Cecilia Pak &Rachel Sze Risk from Oral Sex?

Many Underestimate HPV Risk From Oral Sex

Ironically, April is both Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Awareness month as well as Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness month. Many people don't even realize how these two diseases are linked and how they both pose a serious health risk, especially for our adolescent boys.

As far as STDs, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), even though only a quarter of the sexually active population is made up of people age 15 to 24, this group comprises almost half of the newly diagnosed 19 million STD cases each year.

There's nothing we want more than to be healthy and thin. We want to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt without wondering if it covers our fanny. We want to pull out last year's clothes without worrying about whether or not they're going to fit. And P-UH-LEASE! We want less clothes in our drawers — but all one size!

So why is this goal so impossible to achieve? We have all the tools to succeed at our fingertips. Free weight loss advice on the Internet. Encouragement (and stern warnings) from our physicians and light cooking shows on TV. Most of us have even tasted victory on an occasion or two … or four … or more. With all the statistics and all the desire — why is it so hard to rid ourselves of the burden that continues to squelch our happiness and our health?
Asian pop star Edison Chen, who fled Hong Kong in disgrace last year after nude photos of himself with several female celebrities were posted on the Internet, testify in an unusual court hearing started Monday in Vancouver. Chen's trouble began after he took his broken laptop in for repairs in Hong Kong. Shortly afterwards, explicit photos of him with different women, some identifiable as famous actresses, singers and models, began appearing online. After months of silence, Chen, a singer and actor who grew up in Vancouver, Canada and is one of Asia's most recognized celebrities, was to testify before a Hong Kong judge and lawyers over five days. The testimony had been expected to last five days, but both the prosecution and defense completed their questions Monday. Chen return Tuesday to read and sign the court transcript.

A Canadian judge and Hong Kong's chief magistrate will be co-commissioners at the hearing as Hong Kong police question Chen. Chen was ordered by the judge to answer a question raised by the defendant's lawyer to identify the four women in the string of sex photos. The four names are: Cecilia Pak-Chi Cheung, Gillian Yan-Tung Chung, Cecilia Pak-Wun Chan and Rachel Sze-Wing Ngan. His private sex pictures with several Hong Kong starlets set off an Internet firestorm but now he says he hopes the women involved will soon put this behind them. Edison Chen made the comment as he emerged from a British Columbia Supreme Court.

The hearing is taking place in Vancouver because Edison Chen, 28, fearing for his safety refused to return to Hong Kong to give evidence at the trial of computer technician Sze Ho-Chun, who is facing charges of distributing via the Internet pictures of the actor having sex with female celebrities. On the second day of the hearing, Chen added that 40 photos were all taken by ONE woman who had an affair with him in 2003. Guess who? The married one with the cuckold husband who had to get his baby DNA tested!

The Chinese film star was surrounded by security as he leaves British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver, B.C., on Monday, February 23, 2009. Chen says he was shocked when private photos of him appeared on the Internet, causing a sex scandal "This is part of the judicial proceedings. Since the proceedings are in progress, no further details can be disclosed," an official with the Hong Kong police said in an email to the Toronto Star. While Chen admitted that most of the 328 photossubmitted in court today were taken by him, he claimed 40 of them were taken bythe women in the photos. Chen's international fame skyrocketed after the photos appeared and Google said last December his name was the most searched term in Asia in 2008. Edison Chen's name was searched for more in the Chinese speaking world last year than the Beijing Olympics, the devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan province and the tainted milk scandal. Chen told a crush of Chinese media outside the Vancouver court that he hopes every victim will recover and that their well-being is more important than his.Click on pictures to enlarge!

The ultra Redneckism UMNO forces and premier Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh turned into the tug of war

Casting aside all preconceived prejudices for fellow human beings to come together as a race to ban against intergalactic species. In the absence of said species, all prejudices conveniently return to the human race.
Two people are arguing at a stop light about the others road rage. An intergalactic space craft lands in the middle of the road. Suddenly, the humans ban against the outside specie and put all differences aside. These people are said to be intergalactic rednecks, or suffer from intergalactic redneckism
"Utusan Malaysia's call today for Umno to spearhead a 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement involving all Malay parties, based on the lie and canard that the DAP is intent on toppling the country's Malay leadership, marks the culmination of a two-year anti-1 Malaysia campaign by Utusan Malaysia.

Some of the recent developments have put the premier Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, better known by the acronym RSS, and its many offshoots, in a very awkward position. It has to hectically defend itself on the charges of terrorism and the anticipated ban. May be the issue has a political bickering in the midst of the ongoing power struggle between the 'secular' India and a 'Hindu' India, of which Muslims and other minorities are just not the silent spectators but they themselves have been turned into the tug of war and the target of persecution from both the sides; however, it is the RSS's sour responsibility to emerge clear on the board. The noose of investigation is getting tighter for a section of its present or former rank and file and if it fails to plead innocence it might be proscribed once more.
You judge the response from the crowd.

"This is irresponsible and anti-national politicking at the gutter worst — trying to pit race against race in plural Malaysia based on lies, calumnies and falsehoods … this is the old politics of race which must give way to the politics of Malaysian multi-racialism," added Lim.
Not just Muslims, Lt Colonel Prasad Srikant Purohit and his Abhinav Bharat also targeted Christians in several locations including Kandhamal in Orissa, North Karnataka, Pune, Jabalpur and Bhopal. And that Malegaon blast accused and Purohit's key aide Sameer Kulkarni was allegedly behind the killing of two Christians in Orissa in August 2008. This revelation comes in the Military Intelligence (MI) report of the Army based on the interrogation of Purohit, himself one of the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast and a key link in the Hindu extremist network.

The report, a copy of which is with The Indian Express, said that Malegaon blast co-accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh confronted Purohit during his joint interrogation by MI, the Maharashtra ATS and the Intelligence Bureau at a safe house in Khandala on October 30, 2008.

"She mentioned that the Army officer had met her on October 5, 2008, and confessed to have orchestrated the Malegoan blast, killing of two persons in Orissa in August 2008 and arson in North Karnataka. The officer admitted to having made such statements to Sadhvi Pragya but attributed these outbursts to his boasting about the Malegaon incident. But, later, during the same confrontation he admitted that this outfit had killed two persons in Orissa through Sameer Kulkarni, a full-time activist of Abhinav Bharat," the MI report stated.

Sameer Kulkarni was called Chanakya by Purohit, a generic name given to those part of the military wing of Abhinav Bharat.

"Responsible for covert operations, the RSS activist was instrumental in breaking influential RSS and VHP workers towards Abhinav Bharat. He is known to be associated with the core group who had undertaken the IED blast in Ajmer in 2007. In March 2008, he accompanied Ramji Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange to Purohit's residence in Panchmarhi. Police records confirmed his involvement in anti-Christian riots in Pune, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Lt Col Purohit admitted that on behalf of Abhinav Bharat, Sameer killed two Christians in Orissa in August 2008. This act indicated that Lt Col Purohit wanted to establish an organisation with aggressive anti-Christian stance," the MI report said.

That Abhinav Bharat had become the hub of ultra right Hindu forces is evident from the fact that extremist organisations like Sreeram Sena and Hindustan Rashtriya Sena wanted Purohit's organisation to merge with their outfits.

"During December 22, 2007-January 2, 2008, Lt Col Purohit participated in a meeting called by Swami Aseemanand at Anil Mahajan's house in Pune. The meeting was attended by Vilas Pawar of Sreeram Sena, Karnataka, Pramod Muttalik of Hindustan Rashtriya Sena, Bharat Rateshwar aka Bharat Bhai of Gujarat, Dr Seetharamaiah of Andhra Pradesh, Sudhakar Chaturvedi and Ajay Rahirkar. During the meeting, Swami Aseemanand made an attempt to merge Abhinav Bharat with existing organisations but consensus could not be reached," the report stated. (courtesy: The Indian Express)

Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju on Sunday (April 17, 2011) attributed simmering Hindu-Muslim tensions to a deliberate rewriting of history to project Muslim rulers as intolerant and bigoted, whereas ample evidence existed to show the reverse was true.
The judge also said that Indians were held together by a common Sanskrit-Urdu culture which guaranteed that India would always remain secular.
Justice Katju said the myth-making against Muslim rulers, which was a post-1857 British project, had been internalised inIndia over the years. Thus, Mahmud Ghazni's destruction of the Somnath temple was known but not the fact that Tipu Sultan gave an annual grant to 156 Hindu temples. The judge, who delivered the valedictory address at a conference held to mark the silver jubilee of the Institute ofObjective Studies, buttressed his arguments with examples quoted from D.N. Pande's History in the Service of Imperialism.
Dr. Pande, who summarised his conclusions in a lecture to members of the Rajya Sabha in 1977, had said: "Thus under a definite policy the Indian history textbooks were so falsified and distorted as to give an impression that the medieval period of Indian history was full of atrocities committed by Muslim rulers on their Hindu subjects and the Hindus had to suffer terrible indignities under Islamic rule."
Justice Katju said Dr. Pande came upon the truth about Tipu Sultan in 1928 while verifying a contention — made in a history textbook authored by Dr. Har Prashad Shastri, the then head of the Sanskrit Department in Calcutta University — that during Tipu's rule 3,000 Brahmins had committed suicide to escape conversion to Islam. The only authentication Dr. Shastri could provide was that the reference was contained in the Mysore Gazetteer. But the Gazetteer contained no such reference.
Further research by Dr. Pande showed not only that Tipu paid annual grants to 156 temples, but that he enjoyed cordial relations with the Shankaracharya of Sringeri Math to whom he had addressed at least 30 letters. Dr. Shastri's book, which was in use at the time in high schools across India, was later de-prescribed. But the unsubstantiated allegation continued to masquerade as a fact in history books written later.
Justice Katju said the secular-plural character of India was guaranteed both by the Indian Constitution and the unmatched diversity of the Indian population. The judge attributed the diversity to the fact of India being a land of old immigrants, dating back to 10,000 years (Justice Katju and fellow judge Gyan Sudha Misra first propounded this thesis in a judgment, excerpts from which were carried as an op-ed article in The Hindu edition dated January 12, 2011). The diversity, reflected in the wide range of religions, castes, languages and physical attributes found among the descendants, led the founding fathers to draft a Constitution with strong federal features. "Diversity is our asset and our guarantee for staying secular," said Justice Katju.
Earlier, a resolution passed at the conference urged the government to forthwith set up an Equal Opportunity Commission as recommended by the Rajinder Sachar Committee.
The resolution said: "The conference resolves that inclusive growth is not possible without equal opportunities being given to all sections of society, particularly minorities and other marginalised communities."

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers have demanded that Datuk Seri Najib Razak take action against Utusan Malaysia for stoking racial tension and "blatantly" challenging his 1 Malaysia policy of inclusiveness.
Utusan called on its owners Umno today to spearhead a 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement involving all Malay parties — claiming DAP was intent on toppling the country's Malay leadership.
"What Umno needs to do now, in this pressing time, is to launch a wave of racial unity — 1Melayu, 1Bumi. Launch 1Melayu, 1Bumi immediately with other Malay parties," assistant chief editor Datuk Zaini Hassan wrote in the Malay daily earlier today.
DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said today that Utusan's latest "anti-national" call proved that Najib's 1 Malaysia concept was not a serious nation-building campaign but a big vote-getting sham involving "1Malaysia T-shirt, 1M Tupperware, 1M mineral water, 1M burger, 1M email a/c and other new-fangled 1M paraphernalia yet to be conjured up by 1M fortune hunters.'
"In making the irresponsible anti-national call today, Utusan Malaysia has in fact put Najib to the test — whether he is prepared to bring Utusan Malaysia into line and discipline those who are blatantly challenging his 1 Malaysia policy or whether he is an Umno President who is not in full charge of Umno, ceding real Umno power to the Umno kingmakers lurking  in the shadows," said Lim in a statement today.
In his Cuit column, Zaini said that DAP slogans in the recently concluded Sarawak state election called for Chinese voters to change the Malay-led government, adding that they already controlled everything and were now aiming for political power.
In his column, he said that the Chinese community was a united force whose "brotherhood" was unmatched by any other race in the country.
He said that despite their different political stances, Chinese voters would unite when the time came to decide the fate of their community.
The senior DAP figure has called the campaign "anti-national politicking at its gutter worst." — file pic

Zaini also said that the Chinese community helped each other economically and stood together unwaveringly to protect their culture, language and vernacular education.

However, he provided no facts to substantiate the claim that the Chinese community was such a united force.
Zaini said that while DAP has united the Chinese politically, Malays have so far done nothing in response.
"This is irresponsible and anti-national politicking at the gutter worst — trying to pit race against race in plural Malaysia based on lies, calumnies and falsehoods … this is the old politics of race which must give way to the politics of Malaysian multi-racialism," added Lim.
He said that the DAP had never been a political party for the Chinese but a party for all Malaysians, and that it was the first Pan-Malaysian political party with branches not only in Peninsula states but also in Sarawak and Sabah.
According to Lim, DAP's success in the recent Sarawak state elections was the result of 33 years of hard political work by Malaysians and Sarawakians who believe in a just and equal society for all, and not just for any one ethnic group.
He also challenged Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to state their views on the matter.
PAS MP Khalid Samad echoed Lim's views and said that Utusan editors should be charged for sedition.
"They should be charged for saying seditious matters, inciting racial tension.
"What they are saying is factually wrong … DAP's struggles are not for just the Chinese, they are fighting for a just and transparent government," he told The Malaysian Insider.
The Shah Alam MP charged that it was Umno who were "obsessed" with "race-based issues" and that fears of the Chinese overthrowing a Malay-dominated government were part-and-parcel of Umno's "propaganda" to stay in power.
PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang said that Utusan's editorial content showed Umno's inability to adapt in a "multiracial" society.
"That is how they want to visualise everything … everything is a big conspiracy against Umno.
"This is just a façade to stay in power," Chua told The Malaysian Insider.
The Kaleem-Aseemanand encounter in a Hyderabad jail and its unimaginable fallout, as appeared in media, have brought an unprecedented moment in Indian history, a moment that could prove to be one of the rarest turning points of our time if we could take the opportunity in the right earnest. The two alleged terrorists, one Muslim and other Hindu, implicated in the same sort of cases and, supposedly the fierce enemies of each other, happened to meet behind the bar and caused a strong blow to the communal politics in the country just by a sheer touch of humanity. It is the time to reckon what for is there a communal divide in the country when it has no real worth in human life at all ? There is a need to further explore the idea how history brings forth the vanguards of change, how history takes its own bizarre tolls?

The irony is that the RSS and its many affiliates are not distancing themselves from the conspiracies of 'civil war' which were apprehended to be hatched for creating 'abhinava bharat', a new India, through 'cultural cleansing' and total subordination of Muslims and others. Fortunately, the sordid vision has been caught in the budding stage of a camouflaged terrorism on the part of some radical Hindu groups, thanks to the dispassionately trend setting investigations of late Hemant Karkare and his team. The debate on the so-called 'saffron terrorism' and the implication of some RSS workers in a number of bomb blast cases have been publically decried by the RSS as the Congress malevolence against the 'Hindu' leadership. Even from the recently held Goa summit, where all prominent RSS leaders assembled for reflecting on the current situation, and the Gauhati national executive meeting of the BJP, strangely enough, the blame was imparted on 'the Muslim appeasement' as the cause of 'persecution' of RSS cadres.

It is understandable that no one can be regarded as guilty unless proven so beyond any point of doubt by the court of law and, therefore, one's well wishers and sympathizers are justified to publically and legally defend the one whom they consider innocent. The RSS group also enjoys the same right for its associates, especially when, as an organization, it itself is not, and also should not be, the party to any alleged terrorist activity. However, there is a need to recall the days when Muslim youths were implicated in similar cases, mostly by framed or alleged evidences. The outcry was high against the so-called 'Islamic terrorism'. Most people in the country believed it to be a real thing. In spite of the fact that out of 175 banned organizations from a cross section of society only 40 were having Muslim background, still 'terrorism' somehow became 'Islamic'. The witch-hunt for every 'potential' Muslim hardliner, whether he is involved in any extremist activity or not, was witnessed by the Muslim community for a long, long time. It had been repeatedly pointed out, 'Though all Muslims are not terrorists but all terrorists are Muslims'. Harsher laws for dealing with 'terrorism' were espoused. Violence perpetuated against Muslims in Godhara and against Christians in Kandhmal was justified on one or the other pretext, even while ignoring the friendly advice of Raj Dharma of the erstwhile prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the former case. Hundreds of Muslim youths, who could have otherwise contributed for the well being of their families and for the country, were put behind the bar; many of them are presently waiting for justice in Gujarat jails.

Surely, the RSS cannot be solely blamed for whatever some sections of Muslims, Christians and Sikhs are facing today. There are others who often need their persecution as the 'need of the time'. May be there were a few real culprits from these communities who fell prey to some international conspiracies and to their own personal vengeance against the prevalent communal persecution in the country, but in most of the cases there has always been a clear sign of innocence, still the Hindu leadership directly or indirectly strengthened their plight. Recall all the statements appertained to terrorism in the last two decades; no doubt, those from this leadership comprise most of the tonnage of words on the issue. Now, there is a turnaround. History is playing its game. 'Islam' has been replaced by 'saffron', 'Muslim terrorism' by 'Hindu terrorism'. The proverbial statement can now be pronounced like this "Though all RSS people are not terrorists but all terrorists (arrested recently) are RSS men". If this historical organization claims impairment by media trials, Muslims have faced still a worse situation a few months back since they do not have any match with the political clout enjoyed by the RSS in the establishment. If the RSS leaders feel that investigating agencies are leaking 'sensitive' information to media the same was the situation earlier as well. You cannot enjoy a wrong thing while forgetting that some time it could befall on you as well.

There are Hindu activists who would be passing through the same sleepless nights as several Muslim families a few days back and even now. Just imagine had the acts like TADA and POTA still promulgated, all those Hindu radicals arrested by the police would have been automatically got convicted by the mere evidence of their confession in police custody itself and whatever extracted from them through police remand would have become a legal proof in any court of law; they are actually saved from that comfort of the prosecution since these draconian laws had got revoked in spite of the insistence of the Hindu leadership. Those who repeatedly banned a Muslim organization during their reign and feel to demand similar undemocratic prohibitions on other Muslim organizations from time to time are facing a looming possibility to test the same agony. The RSS activists always speak in terms of a retrogressive history but now they are on the verge of the revenge of history. History runs a callous cycle of events, no doubt.

There can be hardly any denial that India has come of a long way since the colonial tactics of communal divide as an instrument of power retention but some political movements and parties feel it to be an easy ride to power. Indian people, especially the youth, are now wise enough to chaff the populist issues from the issues of development. They are voicing against corruption, casteism and communalism as the three chronic ailments of Indian society. They are voting for progress and real ground level work. Now a younger generation, liberal and open-minded, is going to predominantly influence the power politics. In such a situation any communal card of this or that party is not going to entail much political gain.

It should be deeply and seriously taken into account that basically there are four major political ideologies having some valid inroads among people; secularism, communism, Hindutva and Islam. They can compete with each other for a political space apart from a social one. It should be left to the wise people of the country to support them or not. There should be some rules of the game. Any foul play would be disastrous for the entire country. Recourse to violence and unfair means would always be counterproductive. The instruments of secularism and communism are often being used to unreasonably weaken Hindutva and Islam. Hindutva and Islam play against each other through the thin cover of secularism. In this context organizations espousing Hindutva have the democratic right to work and function. But, no one should be allowed to take law in his own hand whatever clout one enjoys in society. This can only harm the Indian nation (it is something not akin to a 'Hindu' nation as the RSS people chose to call).

When the RSS says that accusation of 'Hindu terrorism' is fake and a politically motivated malice, and rubbish it as a Congress design for 'Muslim appeasement', it subtly concedes and endorses that the same sort of 'design' could have been operative against Muslims as well, perhaps for 'Hindu appeasement' especially in states where the BJP voted to power. If the police, ATSs, SITs, NIA and IB can be said as inclined to witch-hunt of RSS cadres, there is a strong possibility that the same sort of perpetration has been in practice against the Muslim youths as well. The RSS and its rank and file did not oppose such wrongs earlier, rather it is considered by many Muslims as the cause behind such persecutions of their kiths and kin. The RSS people cannot take the two-way advantage of a self-created situation. They cannot tacitly support or become instrument to a worsening situation of civil rights against other communities and complain the same when it rebounds. They cannot abuse Karkare for investigating against a Hindu radical and call him a great hero of the land when he is believed to be assassinated by a Muslim youth. So, one has to accept any of the two scenarios, either the police and investigating agencies are puppets of political lords now and earlier as well in case of Muslims or they are doing their sore job of maintaining social peace and law and order. Presumably, if the law enforcement has not allowed the alleged Muslim perpetrators inclined to violence, how it can be supposed to allow the alleged Hindu radicals doing the same.

The Kaleem-Aseemanad encounter must open our eyes. It should bring home the futility of communal hatred as the philosophy of power struggle. Here a Muslim boy behaved as a selfless human being, and a Hindu saintly person, allegedly running for rooting out Muslims, has to surrender his soul seeing the boy's bizarre behavior. This is the touch of humanity. Many such times came earlier as well but sporadically and locally. Maulana Sajjad Nomani narrates that when there was a communal flare up in Kanpur just after the demolition of Babri Masjid and some Hindus happened to bear the major brunt of the situation, apprehending worsening of the situation as a consequence he rushed with a team of Muslim youths for donating blood to the injured people. This changed the entire scenario. A similar incident happened when there was a bomb blast in Varanasi a few years back. Some Muslim youths associated with Samajwadi Party went to the hospital and donated blood to the wounded persons. As a consequence, the situation did not turn to be a communal strife. A few years back there was a stampede in the Chamunda Devi temple of Jodhpur Fort in Rajasthan where hundreds of Hindu pilgrims were rescued by the Muslims of the nearby localities; and, then came the book on Jinnah by Jaswant Singh the trustee of the temple. Muslim Kashmiris' emergency help to Amaranth pilgrims several times is part of the Indian history. May be the Indian society is fraught with incidences of such gives and takes, in most of the localities, especially in critical times, but we hardly take a heed. We consider such examples as rare and extraordinary and fail to raise society on a better footing by generalizing them. Our hate and vengeance against each other, mostly perpetrated and propagated for ulterior motives, throws us to the nadir of beastliness.

Here is the potential turning point for the RSS to rethink its methodology; and, surely there is a lesson for others as well who are engaged for an ideological change in the country. First of all it should come forward to unequivocally oppose just not 'terrorism' but 'all shades of terrorism'. It should leave the fate of those who might or might not have been involved in terrorist acts but are presently facing police investigations and legal proceedings for the same, to the court of law. It should first pressurize the BJP-led governments to sincerely review terrorist cases for protecting the rights of innocents and unintended individuals leading to relief and release of those who are not really involved in any serious crime and see the nation standing behind it in case of any persecution of its cadres by any one. It should join hands for upholding human rights of others so that any violation of rights of its cadres could be checked. It should see that when the so-branded Muslim/Islamic terrorism was in debate the Muslim leadership undertook nation-wide campaigns through their different banners for mass awareness and building an atmosphere against violence in the name of religion. They impressed upon the community that Islam does not endorse rather calls it a sin to harm innocent people. Now it is the turn of the RSS to rise to the occasion and champion the cause of peace and harmony. Its silence on the gravity of the issue or taking recourse to simplistic diversionary tactics would only bring the reckoning time nearer.

Pakatan: We'll dissolve Felda Plantations within 100 days

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:13 AM PDT

Pakatan Rakyat is all set to lay the groundwork to prove its seriousness in fulfilling the Orange Book or Buku Jingga pledge that Felda Plantations Sdn Bhd will be dissolved within 100 days of Pakatan taking over in Putrajaya. Pakatan had promised to dissolve Felda Plantations in order to provide land to second and third generation Felda settlers who now have no stake on the land which their parents have worked on. Subsequently, the Association of Children of Felda Settlers (Anak) will spearhead efforts to distribute the company's 367000 hectares of land to at least 79000 people. Najib's Dumbest Decision yet!

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 09:10 AM PDT

Getting a little known local IT firm (that is listed by Bursa Malaysia as a company with "poor or adverse financial condition") to provide an 1Malaysia Email account for official purposes, to all Malaysians aged 18 and above may prove to be Najib's dumbest projects yet.
This project which is award to Tricubes Bhd will cost RM50 million!!!!

NONEThe project, said Prime Minister Najib Razak, in announcing it at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre in Putrajaya today, will allow direct and secure communications between citizens and the government.

Although Najib says that this will not cost the rakyat's money... I frankly don't believe him!

Do you?!?

I wonder who will use it not that they announce that it is not compulsory?!?

I believe a lot of rakyat out there have reservation about the security and the privacy of this e-mail.

Whats more is that the internet penetration in this country is not of a certain standard yet. So giving everyone an e-mail account without giving them free internet access is like giving me a nice car keys without giving me the car!!

That's just plain stupid!!!! I hope this is not the advise BN is getting from McKensie and APCO!?!?

I really wonder what Idris Jala and Pemandu is really doing!!

WHY SPEND 50 million when gmail, yahoo and hotmail is free!!!

STUPID!
STUPID!
STUPID!!!!!!

I want to know where did they get the RM10,000 from??

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:52 AM PDT

From M'kini

A NGO today claimed to have video proof that BN had indulged in vote-buying in the recently-concluded Sarawak election.

The Malaysian Election Observers Network (Meonet) put up a video of a tuai rumah or longhouse chief in the Tamin constituency, who apparently admitted to receiving RM10,000 on behalf of his longhouse to support BN.

NONETamin was won by BN through PRS candidate Joseph Mauh Ikeh, who obtained 4,998 votes, a 1,292-majority over PKR's Mengga Mikui, who finished with 3,706 votes in the predominantly Iban area.

In the nearly six-minute video - done almost entirely in the Iban dialect - the longhouse chief claimed that some BN representatives gave him three cheques, with the biggest valued at RM5,000, on the morning of April 13.

It is understood that two other cheques, valued at RM2,000 and RM3,000, were given earlier.

"Dulu nadai, RM20 aja bagi nya (We got nothing in the past, they only gave RM20)," the headman said when asked if his longhouse had received that much in cash handouts in previous elections.

Meonet coordinator Ong Boon Keong said the video was shot yesterday after they received information from one of their observers.

Ong said the three cheques were issued to the longhouse development and security committee, on top of RM50 handouts given to 14 heads of families living in the community.

When asked if all in the longhouse voted for BN, the headman simply said, "Bisik mangkah" (We did mark), referring to the act of marking 'X' next to a voter's party of choice on the ballot paper.

The longhouse chief however admitted that the longhouse residents "nadai untung", or gained nothing, after voting for BN for the past 25 years but felt obliged to vote for the ruling party as they had already been "bought".

This news just piss me off!!

Where is the funds coming from?? If the govt is using the rakyat's money then that will really piss me off!!!

16:125
Transliteration
OdAAu ila sabeeli rabbika bilhikmatiwalmawAAithati alhasanati wajadilhumbillatee hiya ahsanu inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamubiman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bilmuhtadeen
Sahih International
Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided.

Alang alang menyelok pekasam, biar sampai kepangkal lengan.

Namun, apalah malangnya nasib kita semua.

Nak harapkan 'Semangat Jebat'?

Tunggu sajalah kucing bertanduk.

Amin Ya Rahman, Ya Rahim.

Charlie Sheen’s Many Cups of Truth Have Some Major Issues

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:02 AM PDT

just watched the "60 Minutes" expose on Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea. It felt like a punch in the gut, even if it's of the too familiar heroes-come-crashing-down variety.

It must have felt like a punch to many. None of us like to give our hard-earned pennies or dollars or peace prize money to someone who betrays our confidence.

I felt it in my gut, too, because Mortenson and I have a lot in common. We've both published two memoirs about our experiences and work for education in the developing world, he in Afghanistan and I in Haiti. We both travel to speak about our work — albeit he on a much grander, best-selling-er scale than I. Once I stood for half an hour in a book line to talk with him for two minutes and he seemed touchingly humble and friendly.

But he's been accused of fabricating key stories in his books, lacking organizational/financial transparency and effectiveness, and receiving "excessive" personal benefits from his organization.

The accusers don't deny that he's done some worthwhile work. But right now, even with hisposted responses, too much is murky. I deeply hope the truth proves less damning than the accusations, but meanwhile, three thoughts:

First Cup — Hero Worship Fails

Still a little bitter so many swigs later. We need inspiration to be better people. But someone told me once you should never be the hero of your own stories. By the same logic, it's wise to be wary of anyone else who is.

And while he was the hero, one of the things I liked about Mortenson was his self-deprecating posture in his book and speaking. I found his clumsiness inspiring since at times I feel clumsy myself in this work. But you can't make up dramatic, untrue stories. That's fiction. To me, it's in a nobler cause but a worse betrayal than James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. Frey had literary/personal ambition. Mortenson has made himself the centerpiece of education for tens of thousands of children and solicited money from people, while asking for a lot of trust in his story and work.

If he did what he's accused of, he undercut these children's education (though, of course, they likely wouldn't have received education at all otherwise). While doing a lot of good, he would also have been undercutting the way people engage with "true" stories and giving. Whether he's innocent, guilty, or somewhere in between, we do well to check our anointing of saints.

Second Cup — Are We Partly To Blame?

No. That's the short and final answer. Whatever he did or didn't do, it's all on him. But I find the story more interesting if it leads to insight about our systems, lives, and culture.

The system rewards dramatic stories and cult of personality, which helps cut through the busy noise of so many stories, needs, tragedies, invitations to give.

As co-director of a nonprofit, seeing how generous people are is one of the great gifts of my life. I also see how important it is to care for the trust of these relationships. Those of us working in nonprofits get to be a bridge between people who are giving and people who have needs — say, children who otherwise would have no chance for education (only about half of children in Haiti get to attend elementary school).

Knowing this, in our organization we keep a check on ourselves through: weekly progressvideos from Haiti, Google maps withlocations of our seven schools, photos, reports, manyvisitors to our work, Haitian colleagues at our presentations in the U.S. whenever possible, annual audited financials, a board of directors of which neither my co-director nor I are part of, 100% of my book proceeds and honorariums going to our organization — all these things are vital to what we're doing.

We're far from perfect, but if our work is important and committed to ongoing change, there better be checks and balances. That and a wariness of hero-worship are both unpleasant to swallow — because we need inspiration and the heart is rewarded by being able to give generously. But there are better ways.

Third Cup — Truth Must Be Marrried To Justice

Robin Hood is an archetype who breaks moral norms to achieve a greater justice. It's an appealing story, of course. You get to be the bad guy and the good guy all at once. And there are real life examples worth holding up of breaking laws to help others or to transform unjust society.

One good check on the Robin Hood archetype is to ask how much the bender-of-the-morals will personally benefit. Another check is to remember that, ultimately, for justice to work it has to be inseparably married to truth.

Mortenson needs to provide clearer answers, and he says they're coming. He also needs to increase transparency all around. As givers or as people leading a charity, our hearts constantly need to be in concert with our heads — that is, with what is true. Transparency, accountability, and sharing power are crucial for making this happen.

And for all of us who are charitable givers, well, Mortenson's story is not an excuse for a lack of generosity to help, for example, educating girls in Afghanistan or Haiti or elsewhere. To use this as an excuse would be flimsy and cheats justice. But to blame the media or not to insist on clearer answers short-changes the need for truth.

The right position is to be in mutual service to justice and truth — and to keep being humbled by this posture.

Rather than an excuse, this story should just be another reminder to stumble forwardhonestly to change the world for better. It's a lesson worth drinking over and over — and most of us need far more than three cups. The measurement of success isn't the New York Times bestseller list or our salaries or outside praise, but the effectiveness of our service and the orientation of our souls as we continuously repent and strive toward justice, truth, and love.

Civil Coalition Says Pembela’s Threats Unconstitutional - By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani.

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 06:55 AM PDT

A group of civil society organisations have joined forces to denounce statements made by Pembela that call on Muslim leaders to unite against extremist Christians.

Pembela, an umbrella coalition of Muslim groups, held a protest at the National Mosque last Friday against Putrajaya's release of Malay-language bibles and declared they were willing to shed blood against 'extremist' Christians that insult and ridicule the position of Islam in the country.

The group of civil society organisations said today that police must investigate the threats to protect and preserve the rights and liberty of every citizen regardless of faith.

"Such statements are against the grain of Article 3 of our Federal Constitution which clearly states that other religions may be practised in peace and harmony, and that each and every religious group has the right to manage its own affairs, maintain and manage its own property and practise his own faith, as given under Article 11. We believe that such views do not represent the sentiment of the majority of our peace-loving Muslims in Malaysia," said the spokesman Elaine Teh.

Teh also pointed out that news of the demonstration has caught the attention of the international community and was carried by American newspaper, USA Today.

"We are deeply concerned that excerpts of the statements reported in The Malaysian Insider have appeared to pose an open warning and threat to fellow peace-loving Malaysians. We are also saddened by this development and urge Malaysians not to further provoke or incite hatred and violence towards other fellow Malaysians of a different faith," she said.

Teh stressed that Pembela's stance does not represent the sentiments of Muslims in the country.

She said that the civil group is considering holding a peace rally to show solidarity and love among the different communities.

During the protest last week, Pembela's spokesman Dr Yusri Mohamad asked Christian groups to stop their confrontational approach and to apologise to Muslims for wounding the community.

"We ask all Muslim leaders to unite against extremist Christians that challenge and insult Islam," said Yusri, who is also a law lecturer at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia's (ISMA) secretary-general, Aminuddin Yahaya, added that the country has been soiled by foreign elements.

"Malaysia was tanah melayu, tanah Islam. But when British colonialists came to our land, they also brought Christianity with them … We must unite and not compromise with those that insult our religion. We are willing to die for Islam and our country!" he said.

The group of civil society organisations is compromised of All Women's Action Society Malaysia (AWAM); Council of Churches of Malaysia Youth (CCM Youth); Civil Rights Committee of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (CRC-KLSCAH); Islamic Renaissance Front (IRF); LLG Cultural Development Centre; Malaysia Youth & Students Democratic Movement (DEMA); Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (Empower); and Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM).

Earlier today, lawyer Annou Xavier lodged a police report against Pembela at Petaling Jaya police headquarters.

Catholic Lawyer Lodges Police Report Against Pembela - By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani.

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 06:51 AM PDT

A Catholic lawyer called on the police today to act against an umbrella coalition of Muslim groups, Pembela, for making seditious statements against the Christian community.

Annou Xavier said that the threats by Pembela were highly provocative and could result in a backlash against Christians in the country.

Last Friday, Pembela held a protest at the National Mosque against Putrajaya's release of Malay-language bibles and declared they are willing to shed blood against 'extremist' Christians that insult and ridicule the position of Islam in the country.

"The statement made by these groups (Pembela) and its members are insidious and seditious in nature as it is highly provocative so as to mean that the said group and/or its followers are willing to disrupt harmony and cause hatred, contempt, and raise disaffection with Christians and among other peace-loving citizens of Malaysia. The Federal Constitution states that other religions may practise in peace and harmony and that each and every religious group has the right to manage its own affairs, maintain and manage its own property and practise his own faith under Article 11," he told reporters after lodging a police report at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters.

During the protest last week, Pembela spokesman, Dr Yusri Mohamad, asked Christian groups to stop their confrontational approach and apologise to Muslims for wounding the community.

Xavier said that he has lodged a police report to enable an investigation into the matter and to protect the rights of other religious groups, especially the Christian community.

He stressed that Islam is not disputed as the religion of the federation but all other faiths may also be practised in peace and harmony without threat.

"The report is lodged by me as a concerned citizen. I, as a Christian, feel very threatened together with my non-Christian friends," he said.

The Muslim coalition has reiterated its threat to challenge Putrajaya's 10-point solution to the bibles row in court.

The government is still locked in a legal dispute with the Catholic Church over the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims to refer to God, as Islamic enactments in 10 states prohibit this practice.

The solution, however, stipulates two separate sets of rules for Christians living on either side of the South China Sea.

For those in the east Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, the distribution and printing of such books have been allowed, due to the large Christian community.

Sarawak is home to the country's largest Christian population.

But the Cabinet insists that Malay-language bibles in the peninsula be marked with a cross and the words "Christian Publication" on every front cover.

Imam Besar Mekah Puji Cara Malaysia Urus Jemaah Haji

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:32 AM PDT

Enam Belas Dakwa Ditipu Terpilih Bertanding Pilihan Raya Sarawak

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:16 AM PDT

Malah, katanya, mereka telah mengisi borang penclonan tetapi dua hari menjelang hari penamaan calon, mereka menerima SMS berbunyi "Kitak Tak Jadi Bertanding" (Kamu Tak Jadi Bertanding).

Pengaruh Anwar mencaturkan kepimpinan PAS

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:11 AM PDT

Kalau dulu PAS ibarat sebuah keluarga tanpa dipengaruhi  tangan-tangan dari luar namun kini ia ibarat kata seorang bekas anggota Mafia, "lt takes all kinds of good meat to make a good sauce."

It is shocking to think what these fools in our payroll come up with in
their sincere efforts to waste our money.

Seriously, a 1 Malaysia email account?

And this is to provide a "secure" channel for communications between the
government and citizens? Who are they trying to kid??

If you ask me, this is the most effective way for the government to gain
access to our private information instead of having to go to yahoo or
gmail to get it.

I have heard that on numerous occasions, their requests for private
information have been denied.

This will also ensure that the government can send more propaganda via
the internet to counter the freedom of information available over the
web and blogosphere.

This is such a waste and I guess some minister or his crony is making a
lot of money - at our expense.

With an eye to Japan, world pledges cash for Chernobyl
By Richard Balmforth

KIEV (Reuters) - World powers, spurred by the nuclear crisis in Japan, pledged 550 million euros ($780 million) on Tuesday to help build a new containment shell at the site of the 1986 Chernobyl accident.

Ukraine had hoped for 740 million euros from governments and international organisations at a conference in Kiev, marking 25 years since the world's worst nuclear accident.

Officials at the conference were optimistic more funds would still be found to make the Chernobyl site safe.

"This is what we have been able to raise through joint efforts -- and we consider this figure preliminary -- 550 million euros," Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich said at the end of the pledging conference.

The world community has already put up a portion of the 1.39 bln euros for the total cost of building a new containment cover and facilities for storing radioactive waste from the reactor.

Though the sums pledged fell short of the 740 million euros still outstanding, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said that when all the pledges were in, it was possible the conference's "very ambitious goal" would be achieved.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced $123 million in new funding to help make Chernobyl environmentally safe, on top of $240 million already committed by Washington.

"The completion of two nuclear safety projects, construction of a new safe confinement shelter and a storage facility for spent fuel will help finally close this difficult chapter for the people of Ukraine and the region," she said.

NEW ENCASEMENT AT CHERNOBYL

Ministers and officials from the Group of Eight industrial nations and the European Union took the lead at the conference, saying they were ready to fund a new giant encasement over the Chernobyl reactor that exploded in 1986, billowing radiation across Europe.

The plan is to build a 110-metre-high (360-foot) shell over Chernobyl's No. 4 reactor, which blew up after a safety experiment went wrong.

Delegates also expressed solidarity with Tokyo's efforts to control the crisis at Fukushima.

Japan's ambassador told the gathering that "under the challenging circumstances" Tokyo would not be able to pledge additional funds to the Chernobyl effort.

Both Chernobyl and the Fukushima crises showed that "nuclear accidents respect no borders," said U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Yanukovich said the Soviet-era disaster at Chernobyl in 1986 had left Ukraine with a "deep wound which it will have to cope with for many years.

"Neither Ukraine nor the world community has the right to turn back from seeking answers to the questions which Chernobyl has presented us with," he added.

Barroso, describing the pledges as a "very good result", said the European Commission had committed itself to putting up 110 million euros. In all, the EU bloc was providing half the funds required for Chernobyl "shelter and safety" projects.

The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development said it would commit 120 million euros and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said his country would provide 47 million euros.

The new structure will cover the present makeshift shelter that is now beginning to leak radioactivity from hundreds of tonnes of radioactive material inside.

WEEK OF COMMEMORATIONS

The donors' conference launches a week of commemorations in Ukraine marking the Soviet-era explosion and fire.

A prevailing southeast wind carried a cloud of radioactivity over Belarus and Russia and into parts of northern Europe.

The official immediate death toll from Chernobyl was 31, but many more died of radiation-related sicknesses such as cancer, many of them in neighbouring Belarus.

Chernobyl has remained the benchmark for nuclear accidents. On April 12 Japan raised the severity rating at its Fukushima plant to seven, the same level as that of Chernobyl.

Chernobyl's total death toll and long-term health effects remain a subject of intense debate. Yanukovich said on Tuesday: "As a consequence of the accident, millions of people suffered, thousands of them died."

Prypyat, the town closest to the site, is now an eerie ghost town at the centre of a largely uninhabited exclusion zone within a radius of 30 km (19 miles).

Man inside Chernobyl praises Japan crisis response

By Sylvia Westall

VIENNA (Reuters) - Japan's reaction to its nuclear crisis has been swift and responsible, the only survivor of a four-man group that entered the Chernobyl site after it was covered with a concrete hood said on Tuesday.
A helicopter sprays a decontaminating substance over the region surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power station June 13, 1986. Reuters/Tass/Files

It would be wrong to blame Japan for not offering enough information directly after the Fukushima accident, said Anatoly Tkachuk, a senior official at Chernobyl when its No. 4 reactor blew up in 1986, causing the world's worst nuclear accident.

"Think about it this way, a nuclear object emitting radiation after an explosion or accident -- you can't even get close to this object. Every man would die from the intense radiation," he told a news conference in Vienna.

"If you want to go in and assess it, it would mean victims that die. So I think that the Japanese showed the best national characteristics. The nation pulled together, reacted quickly and I think this protected the country from panic."

Tkachuk was responsible for the safety of the so-called "liquidators" who battled to stabilise Chernobyl after it blew up 25 years ago. He was in Vienna to present his book 'I was in the Chernobyl Sarcophagus'.

Once authorities finished installing the "sarcophagus" over the wrecked site eight months after the accident, an order came from Moscow to report on the situation inside the shell.

"Robots could not go in because the inside was completely destroyed and pathways were blocked. It had to be people," Tkachuk said. He clambered into the site with three other men dressed in chemical suits, gas masks and thick goggles.

"The chances of coming back were slim. We had already said goodbye to the world," he said in rapid Russian, describing himself as scared but somewhat proud to carry out the mission.

One big worry was that the high level of radiation inside the sarcophagus had already started to destroy the concrete.

"We immediately saw dust had fallen onto the floor. The walls were already starting to crumble," Tkachuk said. The site was gloomy and damp, and smoke swirled in the air.

"There were wave-like movements in the air, the air was even moving by itself. It was awful," he said.

"We immediately felt pain in the throat -- the first sign of a high radiation dose -- and headaches, pressure in the head, very painful joints, especially the knees."

A temperature of up to 60 degrees Celsius and high humidity made it hard to breathe. One man in his group died almost at once from the radiation and the two others died days later.

Tkachuk says he must have unwittingly avoided parts of the site containing very high radiation and did not step on deadly reactor fuel which had been scattered by the explosion.

"People knew it was dangerous but didn't really know what they were doing. At the beginning, people were moving radioactive material around with their hands," he said.

The official short-term death toll from the accident was 31, but many more died of radiation-related sicknesses such as cancer. The total death toll and long-term health effects are a subject of intense debate.

Cuban communists opt for old guard to lead reforms

By Jeff Franks

HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuba's Communist Party selected President Raul Castro and a hardline ally as its top chiefs on Tuesday, entrusting old guard leaders to steer wide-ranging reforms of the Caribbean island's economy.
Cuban President Raul Castro delivers a speech at the opening session of the sixth congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in Havana April 16, 2011. (REUTERS/Desmond Boylan)

As expected, Raul Castro, 79, was named to replace his older brother Fidel Castro as first secretary of the ruling party's Central Committee.

But the appointment of First Vice President Jose Machado Ventura, 80, as second secretary signaled that Cuba's aging leadership was not yet ready for new blood at the top of one of the world's last communist states. He is viewed as a hardline communist ideologue.

Castro indicated that while Cuba will reform its economy, he will make sure it stays socialist.

"I assume my last job with the firm conviction and commitment ... to defend, preserve and continue perfecting socialism, and never permit the return of the capitalist regime," he said to great applause from the 1,000 delegates.

The two aging communists will preside over the biggest changes in years to the island's struggling economy, which were approved on Monday at the party's first congress in 14 years.

The package of more than 300 reforms aims to reduce spending by the debt-ridden government, cut subsidies, give more autonomy to state enterprises and encourage more foreign investment as part of a general overhaul of the Soviet-style economy. But central planning will remain.

In two of the bigger issues for average Cubans, the food ration all have received since 1963 will be phased out for those who do not need it and the buying and selling of homes will be permitted for the first time in many years.

Some changes, including the slashing of more than a million government jobs, allowing more self-employment and leasing state land to private farmers, are already in place or under way.

FEW NEW FACES IN POLITBURO

Raul Castro and Machado Ventura fought in Cuba's revolution and head the aging revolutionaries who have run the government and resisted U.S. pressure for political change since they helped topple U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista in 1959.

A number of others in the leadership are in their 70s and 80s. The age issue is a concern because President Castro said they had not groomed young leaders to replace them.

Raul Castro, who served as defense minister for 49 years under his older brother before replacing him as president in 2008, said in a speech on Saturday the party was considering limiting future leaders, including himself, to two five-year terms.

Machado Ventura, a medical doctor who joined the Castro brothers early in their revolutionary campaign from the Sierra Maestra mountains, is first in line to succeed Raul Castro.

Raul Castro said 15 people, including him and Machado Ventura, had been named to the powerful Political Bureau. Only three of them were new members -- reforms czar Marino Murillo, first secretary of the Communist Party in Havana Mercedes Lopez Acea, and Economy Minister Adel Izquierdo Rodriguez.

The Politburo also includes five generals, not counting Raul Castro, reflecting the military's key role in the Cuban government.

Former President Fidel Castro, 84, who had already said he relinquished the first secretary position five years ago, made his first appearance at the congress on Tuesday.

Wearing a blue gym suit, he had to be helped to his seat at the front of the congress.

Fidel Castro has said he resigned from his party leader post, without publicly disclosing it, when he fell seriously ill in 2006.

* Marine Well Containment Co may want to work with Helix

* Both containment systems developed after BP oil spill

* Both systems "bring something to the table"-Interior

By Ayesha Rascoe

WASHINGTON, April 18 (Reuters) - Two competing oil spill
response systems developed for the Gulf of Mexico in the
aftermath of the massive BP (BP.L) oil spill may eventually
join forces, a BP executive said on Monday.

Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and other oil majors formed the
non-profit Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) to develop a
system to rapidly respond to major spills after BP's oil spill
exposed the lack of equipment available to contain a deepwater
spill.

Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc (HLX.N) also developed a
separate response and containment system for Gulf producers
after the BP drilling disaster.

At the first meeting of a new government advisory panel on
offshore drilling issues, the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory
Committee panel questioned whether having two separate safety
systems was practical when there was limited design expertise
in that area.

The 15-member panel made up of industry, government and
academic experts was set up by the U.S. Interior Department to
provide guidance on offshore drilling research and practices
after last year's explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig killed
11 workers and unleashed nearly 5 million barrels of oil from
the Macondo well.

"I think at some point and time in the future...these
things will hopefully come together,"James Dupree, Gulf of
Mexico regional president for BP, told the panel.

BP joined MWCC after it capped its ruptured Macondo well
last year.

At the advisory committee meeting, held two days before the
one-year anniversary of the Gulf spill, Dupree discussed some
of the lessons BP learned after being involved in the largest
offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

Dupree said the two containment systems were designed to
address different needs, with Helix an option for smaller firms
who may not want to make a large commitment up front.

"One of the goals potentially of the MWCC group is to see
how we can work together with the Helix group to try to
accommodate solutions for all of the Gulf of Mexico," Dupree
said.

The MWCC system includes a huge "capping stack" of valves
and pipes, controlled by underwater robots, that can be placed
atop a spewing well in 8,000 feet of water to stop the oil
flow.

The Helix system involves placing a subsea shut-off device,
valves and pipes atop a blowout preventer or well production
equipment at the seabed. It would contain and channel oil and
gas to production and storage vessels at the surface.

"They both bring something to the table at this point,"
said Lars Herbst, of Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy
Management.

Mitsui's Moex Blames Partner BP for Gulf of Mexico Rig Blow-Out, Oil Spill
By Margaret Cronin Fisk and Laurel Brubaker Calkins - Apr 20, 2011 12:09 PM GMT+0800

BP Plc (BP/) was sued by Mitsui & Co.'s Moex Offshore LLC unit and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC), both minority partners in the blown-out Macondo well, over economic losses from the project's failure and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that followed.

Moex and Anadarko, claiming BP broke its partnership agreement, asked a federal judge in New Orleans to declare they aren't responsible for damages and cleanup costs resulting from the worst off-shore oil spill in U.S. history. Both companies said London-based BP was responsible for the blow-out and the spill.

"BP's conduct was the proximate cause of foreseeable damage suffered by Moex Offshore, including claims made against it for liability for death, personal injury, cleanup costs, economic loss, loss of investment, lost profits and any damages or fines assessed in pending or future proceedings involving the spill," Moex said in a court filing yesterday.

Moex and Anadarko, saying they had no fault in the blow-out and spill, also accused Transocean Ltd. (RIG), the owner of the rig that drilled the Macondo well, of gross negligence. Switzerland- based Transocean was responsible along with BP for the damages, according to the unit of Tokyo-based Mitsui.

BP has said it expects its minority partners in the damaged well to pay their share of billions of dollars in cleanup costs, oil-spill damages and pollution fines. Moex, which had a 10 percent stake in the well, and The Woodlands, Texas-based Anadarko, with a 25 percent stake, deny having any decision- making role or prior knowledge of the way BP operated the drilling project.
'No Evidence'

"No evidence exists to support a claim of gross negligence against Transocean," Brian Kennedy, a spokesman for the drilling company, said in an e-mail.

"Moex's filing contains a number of specific allegations against BP that are not supported by fact or by law," Daren Beaudo, a BP spokesman, said in an e-mail before Anadarko made its filing. "BP will respond to the complaint in a timely manner."

Moex said in its filing yesterday that it "suffered economic losses as a result of BP's negligence, including the loss to the reservoir, the loss of its investments, lost profits and defense costs, including attorneys' fees."

The case is part of In Re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010, MDL-2179, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana (New Orleans).

SARAWAK: Kenaikan Sokongan Pada PR Berlaku Pada Semua Kaum

Posted: 19 Apr 2011 11:48 PM PDT

And here is the rest of it.
