From Asia Sentinel
Even to a Malaysia grown inured to the scandalous ins and outs of deviant sexual congress, Mohamad Saiful Bukhairy Azlan may have given new meaning to the phrase "go f**k yourself."
Saiful, a 25-year-old former aide to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, is the chief prosecution witness in Anwar's marathon sodomy trial. Dr Seah Lay Hong, a chemist and prosecution witness, was forced by defense lawyers to acknowledge on the stand in late February that DNA found in Saiful's rear end could have come from as many as 10 different people – including himself.
Saiful has done a pretty good job on his government, his country and Anwar. That is because the case is becoming a major embarrassment, calling up memories of Anwar's 1998 sodomy trial, which was universally branded a travesty by international human rights organizations. Mistakes made over supposedly conclusive DNA evidence in the long-running trial call into question whether the evidence could survive in a rational court of law. Other testimony indicates that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansour, among others, may have played a personal role in bringing the case to court.
Last Tuesday, High Court Judge Zabidin Mohamid Diah handed Anwar a major victory by throwing out purported DNA evidence supposedly proving he had sex with the 25-year-old Saiful. He ruled the evidence was inadmissible because it had been taken without Anwar's permission from items in his jail cell when he was first arrested on Saiful's complaint in July 2008.
Despite the plethora of mistakes, however, the government faces a dilemma. If it folds the prosecution, it hands Anwar a huge victory and gives considerable ammunition to opposition charges that the government and particularly Najib cooked the evidence to attempt to drive Anwar from politics. Accordingly, rather than giving up now that the last physical link between Anwar and Saiful seemingly has been discredited, the prosecution is refusing to fold.
On Friday, prosecutors moved in court to attempt to force Anwar to provide an additional DNA sample to replace the one that Zabidin threw out. Government prosecutor Yusof Zainal Abiden asked Zabidin to review his decision and to compel Anwar to hand over a sample.
That also raises a danger for Anwar if the prosecution appeals to Malaysia's Federal Court, Malaysia's supreme court. The court has shown a notorious malleability to the political system, ruling against the opposition in important cases, including one which in effect handed the control of the state of Perak to the ruling coalition after the opposition had won it in the 2008 national election.
Saiful, who was an aide to Anwar prior to filing the charges, has acknowledged in court that he met with Najib and his wife, Rosmah, on June 24, 2008, at Najib's home two days before the alleged sodomy. He also acknowledged that he had met with Rosmah's close confidant, the former track star Mumtaz Jaafar, as well.
He also acknowledged meeting secretly with Rodwan Mohd Yusof, a senior assistant police commissioner, twice before the alleged offence took place. Rodwan became famous in Anwar's 1998 trial when he illegally removed Anwar's DNA samples from forensic custody and planted them on a mattress allegedly used by Anwar for a homosexual dalliance. To protect the integrity of the prosecution's case, the presiding judge, Augustine Paul, expunged the entire DNA evidence at the time.
Under Malaysian law, police were previously barred from taking DNA samples from defendants without their permission. When Anwar refused to give a DNA sample, complaining that previous samples used in a 1998 case against him had been tampered with, the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition pushed a bill through the parliament allowing police to collect samples in criminal cases without the consent of the suspect.
However, since the alleged offense took place prior to the passage of the bill, presumably Anwar would still be exempted from giving DNA evidence.
In any case, the prosecution's conduct in handling evidence collected from Saiful's body and clothes has been woefully inept. Even if they were to take another sample from Anwar, it would be difficult to compare it to the evidence taken from Saiful.
According to testimony in court, no evidence was taken from Saiful's body until 56 hours after the alleged sodomy. When DNA traces of semen were allegedly found in his mouth, he said he had neither washed, brushed his teeth nor gone to the bathroom between the time of the offense and the period when he was tested. While DNA samples can still be taken effectively within 72 hours, in this case the handling of the evidence seems to have been casual at best.
Although Seah found evidence of DNA from other unknown males in Saiful's rectum, she said she had not tested to find out anybody else's identity. Asked by a defense attorney whether the DNA evidence could result in 10 different combinations or individuals, Seah agreed.
Last Friday, the investigating officer, Jude Pereira said that after collecting evidence from Saiful, he had put the swabs in a metal filing cabinet in the Brickfields police headquarters for 43 hours, ignoring an order by Siew Sheue Feng, a forensic pathologist, to put them in a freezer. United States Federal Bureau of Investigation guidelines state that "environmental factors, such as heat and humidity, can also accelerate the degradation of DNA."
Pereira acknowledged that degradation of the samples could have occurred because he ignored the pathologist's advice as well as standing orders of the Malaysian Inspector General.
Before being derailed by the current charges, Anwar led the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition to a historic sweep of five Malaysian states, winning 82 parliamentary seats in 2008 national elections and breaking the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition's two-thirds majority hold on parliament.
However, the opposition – a coalition of the largely Chinese Democratic Action Party, the Islamist Parti Islam se-Malaysia and Anwar's own Parti Keadilan Rakyat has stumbled as Anwar, preoccupied by his court cast, has been unable to focus completely on politics. Anwar has also been hampered by a six-month suspension from parliament over allegations that he had misled the body.
The case has now droned on for 13 months. Along with the suspension and a range of other actions, the opposition is increasingly neutralized. The next big test is expected to be a state election in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak, which must be held before the end of 2011

10 Perkara Kenapa Anda Tak Perlu Percaya Dengan Kes DS Anwar !!
by Zakri Ali Rangkuti on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 12:20am
Tuesday, March 15, 2011-"Malaysia ni dah jadi macam negara kartun. Apabila saya keluar negara, malu nak mengaku warga Malaysia.
Setelah sekian lama, barulah laporan diserahkan.
3. Anwar disabitkan bersalah sebelum dibicarakan
Seterusnya, alibi Anwar perlu disiasat.
Amin.

WHAT DID HE MEAN BY 'TENTATIVE CHARGE BUT ALL IS NOT LOST'?
On 11th October, Malaysia Today carried a post entitled 'Abuse of power by the Deputy Prime Minister' that laid out a series of sms'es alleged to have passed between Najib and senior lawyer Shafee Abdullah in relation to Razak Baginda's arrest and remand in the days before Baginda was charged.
Najib was publicly asked to comment about these sms'es and he never denied the authenticity of the same.
Now, there's one other exchange of sms'es, this time allegedly between Razak Baginda and Najib. I do not recall Najib himself having ever addressed or denied or admitted the correctness or otherwise of these sms'es directly, as he did with the series of sms'es referred to in the MT posting.
I am referring to the 2 sms'es mentioned at paragraphs 51 and 52 of the first statutory declaration of private investigator Balasubramaniam. Let me reproduce below both paragraphs 51 and 52 of that first statutory declaration.
51. On the day Abdul Razak Baginda was arrested, I was with him at his lawyers office at 6.30am. Abdul Razak Baginda informed us that he had sent Najib Razak an SMS the evening before as he refused to believe he was to be arrested, but had not received a response.
52. Shortly thereafter, at about 7.30am, Abdul Razak Baginda received an SMS from Najib Razak and showed, this message to both myself and his lawyer. This message read as follows: " I am seeing IGP at 11am today … matter will be solved … be cool".
NOW WE KNOW WHY THE SLEEPY PIG HEAD WENT ALONG THE SODOMY11 WITH THE SHAITANRaja Petra Kamarudin
Shareholder dispute revives Scomi past
Leslie Lopez, The Straits Times
A YET-TO-BE publicised shareholder dispute involving the son of former prime minister Abdullah Badawi is likely to renew debate over Malaysia's role in the clandestine trade of sensitive military technology.
Sri Lankan businessman Buhary Syed Abu Tahir has gone to the High Court to claim RM75 million (S$31 million) from the former premier's son, Mr Kamaluddin Abdullah, and another businessman, Mr Shah Hakim Shahzanim Zain.
In the suit filed by his wife late last year, Mr Tahir is demanding what he claims is money owed to him for his equity interest in engineering company, Scomi Group, lawyers familiar with the case told The Straits Times

PIGHEAD BODOHWEE SAID SAIFUL NEED HELP SO

What I want to reveal here is that when I was in Kamunting for almost two months from September to November 2008, I did some probing. You know me: I love probing — as long as it is not the butt of a Havana Club hostess. Anyway, what I discovered in my probe is most interesting indeed.
I found out that Buhary Syed Abu Tahir a.k.a BSA Tahir did not spend his entire time in Kamunting. They did send him there when they first detained him under the Internal Security Act (ISA) but a short while later they came back for him and he 'disappeared'.
Four years or so later, Tahir suddenly returned to Kamunting and a few days later he was released. Tahir is probably the first person in Malaysia to be detained under the ISA in Kamunting but not actually have to spend time in Kamunting.
I did more probing and discovered that during the time he 'disappeared' from Kamunting, Tahir was 'detained' in an exclusive condo in Bangsar. That was how he 'suffered' his four years detention.
The reason why Tahir was detained but not Kamal or Shah Hakim was never really explained other than the excuse that Tahir did things behind their backs which they were not aware of. Now it seems they were more than aware. They were in fact part of the ring.
Okay, while we wait for the Malaysian mainstream media to pick up this story (if they dare), let us move on to PI Bala. Bala is still awaiting the confirmation of the interview that the MACC wants to have with him. MACC, however, is yet to decide when and where they would like to meet Bala even after so many months.
Do I detect some reluctance on the part of the MACC? Is the MACC trying to avoid meeting Bala? Why is the MACC so scared of meeting Bala? What is it that Bala is going to say that has put the fear of God in the MACC?
Over the weekend, Raja Petra Kamaruddin of Malaysia-Today has come up with several revelations in the case of the sodomy allegations against Anwar Ibrahim (forgive this very lazy kind of blogging).
Here's some interesting points, in case you cannot access Malaysia-Today.
Who is Rodwan, and why the secret meeting in Room 619?
According to RPK, Saiful Bukhairy had met a police "conspirator" – Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) II Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof – before the former lodged a police report against Anwar Ibrahim on 26 June. The secret meeting took place in Room 619 of the Concorde Hotel on 25 June. Both men had spoken about 8 times on the phone.
[Rodwan was the same police officer who was involved in fabricating the 1998 sodomy allegation against Anwar Ibrahim. He was allegedly the man who illegally took Anwar's specimens, which subsequently mysteriously reappeared as 'stains' on a mattress].
What do you tell Malaysians who are impatiently waiting for the outcome of these allegations?
There's more kinky sex during the trial which will put Astro out of business. That Malaysians will eventually come to know who Mumtaz Jaafar is and what her 'special' links with Rosmah are. Further to that, Malaysians will be told about the relationship between Najib's Special Officer, Khairul Anas, and Saiful — "and the less than manly reputation these two buggers had while still in school. Yes, the excitement and kinky sex that is going to spill over from this trial will cause Astro to lose a lot of business".
Will Anwar be arrested within these few days and why?
RPK claims that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wants to charge Anwar because this would invariably dragged Najib Tun Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, aka Dotty, into the whole mess. The police have recorded both Najib's and his wife's statements under Section 112. So that means Najib and Rosmah would both have to take the witness stand to testify during the course of the trial.
So, this is not about Anwar but Najib?
No, this is not a case of Anwar being set up for a fall under false allegations of sodomy. It is about Najib being dragged into the mess and being fingered as the dalang behind the conspiracy to set Anwar up. Sure, Anwar will face a temporary setback. He will spend five to six years in jail and then will be declared not guilty. But Najib will be sent into retirement for good.
"This is not about Anwar. This is about Najib. And Najib has not awoken to this fact yet. Poor thing" (says RPK)
Today, the mother of all trials in Malaysian history begins. This is bigger then the Jean Pareira murder case in the 80′s. I don't think I had much chance to read papers those days but I still remember vividly about it. This case is receiving worldwide attention. I think if this can be commercialized, the ratings would have beaten American Idol or the movie Avatar. Quoting partly what Mahathir said, " If they can make Avatar, this is nothing." I believe majority Malaysian will not accept what ever the prosecution wants to say. Another blogger, Steadyaku47, wrote "Fool the Rakyat once, shame on you. Fool the Rakyat twice? Shame on the Rakyat!"
I believe all Anwar supporters, sympathizers' as well opponent is glued to the papers and to the internet. Everyone wants to know what transpired in courts. I am no exception. I don't know how many people reads with an analytical view and how many would read and accept what is written blindly as gospel (oops! a Christian word, Muslim cannot use?) truth.
On 29/7/2008, I wrote an article under the heading"PUSRAWI Medical Report.. Did RPK err?".
I remember I receive a lot of bashing from Anwar supporters because they cannot differentiate between "Medical Reports" and "Medical Notes" and the message I was trying to drive at. There was almost a fanatical behaviour of the readers. I concluded my writing then that the notes have not proved or disapprove anything.
Malaysiakini gave a good rendition of what transpired in court today. I took the liberty of copying an image from the article and it is displayed here for easy reference. Shown below is part of the Pusrawi Medical notes which RPK made it public sometime back. Please focus on date and time on the images. The full PUSRAWI medical notes can be read from my earlier article.
In a nutshell, Saiful went to PUSRAWI on the 28th June 2008 and was seen at 1414Hrs with complains of Tenesmus for one week and he gave a history that he was "alleged assaulted by intruding a plastic item in anus" . There was no mention about any penile penetration occurring two days prior. This is relevant as the prosecution is claiming that Anwar penis entered MSB Anus on the 26th June 2008 between 3:01pm to 4:30pm. If that is the case why MSB didn't complains as such to the doctor at PUSRAWI. Maybe he was shy. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
In the charge sheet, it was said that the prosecution found Anwar semen in MSB Anus. If my memory serves me right, MSB went to HKL after PUSRAWI where he was admitted on the same day. In other words if indeed MSB Anus was swabbed for semen then it must have been done late evening on the 28th June 2008 or the next day. If it was done on the 28th June, it means between the alleged sexual act and the time the swab was taken, more than 48 hours has passed What is the prosecution trying to prove here? It says that MSB did not go toilet to pass motion for 48 hours? He did not clean himself? If indeed he did not go to ease his bowels, he must be suffering from severe abdominal distension. Can man semen last that long outside a human body in another person ass? This is a simple. I suggest my readers do simple experiment and collect their semen and place it in a plate and see what happens to it in one hour. No need to wait for 48 hours. It will liquefy within a few 30 mins to 1 hour. Don't believe me? Well do the experiment or you can read here. If the prosecution is saying that they found Anwar semen in MSB Anus after more than 48 hours after the penetration, it is certainly a miracle. If we have a good and well informed judge, I think this case is already over even before it started. At least that is how I sees it but then I am not the judge. I don't read law.
Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who took the stand at the High Court as the prosecution's first witness, testified that when he first met Anwar at a condominium in Damansara Heights in 2008, the PKR de facto leader had asked him: "Can I **** you today?"
Wah! Anwar must have really been horny that day. Meeting a stranger and right away, "Can I FUCK you today?"
Saiful's use of the profanity was greeted by sniggers and murmurs from those in the public gallery.
Well at least some people in the courtroom have a sense of humour or more likely they were tickled at hearing the word FUCK which is so often misused and misunderstood. And banned.
When asked by the prosecution about his immediate reaction to the request by Anwar, Saiful replied that at that point of time he felt "angry and scared."
Okay, quite natural to feel that way. Of course, if somebody you met for the first time asked to fuck your ass wouldn't you get angry?
"I was angry and scared.. I refused to do so, to which Anwar became angry," said Saiful.
The complainant also alleged that the former deputy prime minister had offered him money in exchange for the sexual act, to which he also "refused".
Good. Any God-fearing man would have done the same. Well done!
"I repeated what I had said and told him that I cannot bear to do it."
Okay, okay we get the point. Thank you.
Anwar had then "ordered" him to proceed to the guest room where Saiful then stripped and donned a towel before the opposition leader hugged him.
Huh? Hahahahaha…you got to be kidding me. Right? After being angry and scared and refusing payment from the man you then proceed to the bedroom and strip down to a towel? Man! How scared were you? Not enough to protect your ass I guess.
But thanks for the laugh of the day la. Terima Kasih.

UCAPAN PERBAHASAN TITAH UCAPAN SERI PADUKA BAGINDA YANG DI PERTUAN AGONG
OLEH : YB NURUL IZZAH ANWAR
AHLI PARLIMEN LEMBAH PANTAI
Sesi parlimen kali ini wujud satu peluang untuk Perdana Menteri dengan jelas dan terang menjadikan Malaysia sebuah negara yang lebih demokratik dan membuktikan bahawa Malaysia bukan negara polis dengan hanya melakukan tiga perkara asas yang saya kira mudah dan dapat dilakukan tanpa kesulitan dan kerumitan. Ketiga-tiga ini hanya memerlukan daya politik atau kehendak politik dan kejujuran didalam 'mendahulukan rakyat' dan 'memajukan negara'. Tiga perkara asas yang saya maksudkan adalah ;
1) Meluluskan Rang Undang-Undang Akta Pemansuhan Darurat 2011
1) Meluluskan Rang Undang-Undang Akta Pemansuhan Darurat 2011

Due to lack of creativity and excess in desperation, most of the UMNO/BN-owned media resort to headlines such as "Najib tells Sibu folks to vote BN for a better future".
I usually feel rather nauseated after digesting too many news articles along those lines, which is why I staunchly avoid coming into contact with any mainstream media if I can help it.
So it came as a complete shock when I read that Pakatan Rakyat politicians had sent out text messages discouraging people from attending the HINDRAF-organised protest.
"Don't fall for selfish people who are using you for their selfish aims. Go to Merlimau not KLCC," the text message by DAP Senator S. Ramakrishnan read.
It seems to me that the issue of racism and propagation of tools to Brainwash The Nation is of secondary importance - the utmost priority is that they, Pakatan Rakyat, get voted into power.
Make no mistake, Uthayakumar, the maverick leader of HINDRAF has not played by any party rules, nor has he compromised on his stance. A lot of people regard him as eccentric, some see him as recalcitrant, but on the issue of racism, he appears to be spot-on in his judgement.
This makes him a threat to Pakatan Rakyat. I wager that a substantial number of politicians were more than just mildly curious to know if Uthayakumar still had the mojo and could command an impressive attendance at KLCC.
We never got to know because every Indian who showed up in that vicinity was promptly arrested.
But even the average man on the street is aware of the Pakatan Rakyat politicians' self-serving actions. This commenter on Malaysiakini says:
Anonymous i see some the politicians here are taking advantage in this case and asking the indians not to vote for this party and that party.hello we are talking about our childrens education and well being not your stupid politics.pls for god sake for once think like a human being rather for your own benefit.i find it wrong and very wrong for education ministry to do this to our indian children.im in the service line and i have never discriminated a malay or chinese but whats wrong with this teachers.they seriously need to go for psychiatric evolution before they start teaching in the school.pls withdraw interlok before it causes further damage to this country.1malaysia
Interestingly, the politicians have also been called out by the educated masses as well. In his letter to Malaysiakini, Wong Mun Chee identifies Hindraf, not Pakatan Rakyat as the real threat to UMNO.
In hindsight, the government feels that the grass roots movement of Hindraf is more potent that the politicking of the opposition. Maybe they realise the opposition like them is an endless trail of bickering of who does what and how it has to be done, but how it gets dissipated to the grassroots is a major stumbling block for either the ruling government or the opposition.
It is a shame when politicians on both sides of the divide continue to neglect issues on the ground in favour of power.

Apasal nak sebuk pasal sample DNA Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Hakikatnya, sapa boleh percaya ahli kimia kerajaan. Dia makan gaji. Dia pun boleh kena paksa buat laporan palsu sebab dia pun cari makan jugak. Bodohlah Dato Seri Anwar kalau beri sampel DNA tu.

Director-General of Broadcasting Datuk Ibrahim Yahaya aka blogger Dunia Tiger leaves office tomorrow (March 16) after serving Datuk Rais' ministry for less than three years. He is not even 51 yet.
For all I know, the minister refused to extend his contract for no solid reason. Or, did PM Najib decline to interfere in Rais' decision?
Dtk Tiger has been sentimental in reshaping up the ministry's broadcasting portfolio and he even helped to save some million ringgits in expenditure by means of prudent money management and control.
I guess internal politics play a role here.
However, I agree that he should leave. As a DG in charge of broadcasting, all TV stations should come under his purview but such a responsibility was never his! He was made a puppet on the strings!
Its OK, bro. Kata nak bukak kedai tomyam, nanti aku makan kat sana!

Minggu lalu, akhbar harian Amerika, the New York Times (NYT) melaporkan pekan industri Gebeng berhampiran Kuantan bakal menyaksikan pusat pemprosesan tanah jarang (rare earth) yang paling besar di dunia.

The electoral reform groups points out that the government in Egypt fell because the people could not exercise their voting rights in a free and fair manner.
From Free Malaysia Today:
KUALA LUMPUR: Electoral reform group Bersih may consider holding a second mass rally ala Egypt's Tahrir Square uprising to demand for reform in Malaysia's election system.
The idea will have PAS' backing, said Mohd Sabu, chief of the Islamic party's Democracy Driver Committee.
According to him, the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has forced voters to resort to such a move.
"The BN government is forcing people to take the streets," he told a press conference at the PAS headquarters here.
Bersih held its first mass rally in the city in late 2007 which saw close to 80,000 people taking to the streets to protest against the Election Commission (EC) and its alleged biasness.
Two new demands
The protesters marched towards the National Palace to hand over a memorandum demanding the implementation of four key reforms:
The review of the alleged tainted electoral roll, abolishing postal votes, fair media coverage and a minimum of 21 days campaigning period for the general election.
PAS, whose leaders sit on the Bersih Steering Committee, said two more demands have been added to the original – that constituency delineation be done based on social needs and better enforcement to prevent political bribery.
One of the leaders, PAS central working committee member Dr Dzulkelfly Ahmad cited two alleged cases of "blatant" political bribery made by BN chairman and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
One was in the Sibu by-election where Najib was quoted by the media as saying "you help me, I help you" when he promised voters there to tackle the prolonged flood problems if BN won the parliamentary seat.
Dzulkefly said Najib made an almost similar remark at the recent Kerdau by-election in Pahang that saw PAS defeated by BN.
The premier purportedly told Kerdau voters during a ceramah "we do not buy votes but if you support us we will increase your allocation".
"If this is not corruption, I don't know what is corruption," the PAS leader told the same press conference.
There were no concrete discussions yet on the second rally dubbed "Bersih 2″ but Mohd Sabu hinted that a mass demonstration was more than likely.
"Whether or not we take to the streets depends on the leader. If they do not meet our demands (for electoral reform), then the voters will definitely resort to street protest," he said.
Should Bersih decide otherwise, the former PAS vice-president said the PAS leadership would meet to discuss what path to take next.
Najib and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin had both warned against any attempt by opposition supporters to emulate the bloody Egypt uprising and accused Pakatan Rakyat leaders of intentionally using the upheaval there to instigate their supporters.
However, Mohd Sabu said the rally would not be held to topple BN but to demand what "is inherently the voters' right to free and fair elections."
"The government of Egypt fell because the voters no longer can exercise a fair, free election and they resorted to street protests," he added.
EC deputy chairman must resign
Meanwhile, Syed Azman Syed Ahmad, another PAS central working committee member who sits with the Bersih leadership, claimed that he has evidence that deputy EC chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar was conspiring with BN to topple Pakatan state governments.
He made no disclosure of the proof to back his allegation but demanded Wan Ahmad's immediate resignation.
"He is supposed to act impartially but he has been blatantly open in his support and has acted like a BN stool," said Syed Azman.

what is desiderata?
WRITING has been a passion of mine among others, like painting and reading, since my early school days. Those were hazy, lazy days when young people had time for top-spinning, spider catching, swimming in former mining pools (a dangerous pastime!) in the outdoors, and for indoor leisure, there was no TV, and the strongest pull for me were comics and library books. As the saying goes, "Necessity is the Mother of Invention", I ventured into writing in my secondary schooldays to earn some pocket money, so that my siblings and I could indulge in the weekend cheap matinee (as the cinema was about the next best thing to a luxury outing).
Since my youth, I have adopted a poem called "The Desiderata of Happiness"by Max Ehrmann as my philosophical guide to daily living. Desiderata starts with "Go placidly amid the noise and the haste ..." and ends with an optimistic "With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy." (I'll publish this poem in full later - but meanwhile, readers can go to Yahoo! and Search for this easily...)
"Desiderata" means "features or characteristics deemed as essential or desirable to..."; hence one may say the desiderata of happiness may consist of, among others, good health, a balanced education, a professional job, lots of money to spare after the essentials for daily living, or even a carefree vagabond lifestyle ... to each his/her own!
I shall end my first blog as an Introduction here, just past midnight, March 15, 2005 - "Beware the Ides of March!" for those with some exposure to Shakespeare, who would be quoted in my writings quite a lot in future. Meanwhile, greetings to all, please find time for fine reading, especially Poetry, so that we can puruse a common journey of upgrading our quality of life. Wishing you all Good Health and Progress in All Your Endeavours.

Malaysiakini reported in its news article Kula flays Palanivel's back-to-the-estates solution that:
DAP MP for Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran has described the call to down-and-out Indian Malaysians in urban areas move back to estates to escape the poverty trap as "preferring a placebo to a panacea" in addressing the community's problems.
The proposal aired last week by MIC president G Palanivel that Indians caught in the poverty trap in urban areas stand a better chance of survival in the estates has drawn flak from several quarters. [...]
Kula correctly urged: "When it is established why crime and school dropout rates and incidence of single parentage are high among Indian Malaysians, we can begin to find the solutions to the problems of the community."
… which them made me remember the old Mamak (uncle) in my Ayer Itam village, from whom I used to buy an economy mee rebus 'burger'.
Hah, you may wonder what kaytee's economy mee rebus 'burger' is (or was)?
The 'burger' consisted of half of a whole (square-shaped) fried tau-knua (hard tofu), cut diagonal-wise; Mamak then sliced a slit along but not exceeding the 'diagonal' (or the hypotenuse of the triangular-shaped half of a tau-knua – me the maths genius, seeing Pythagoras in my mee rebus man's tau-knua wakakaka). The slit created a 'pocket' in the tofu.
Stuffing the tofu's pocket with some mee rebus (hotly rinsed Hokkien noodles), julienned cucumber and lettuce, he completed the 'burger' by pouring his renowned kuah (gravy) into the slit. Man, was he a genius in developing the 'burger' where pokkai (money-broke) kids like me could enjoy the economy version of his fantastic mee rebus?
When Mamak passed away, his rather dapper son took over and introduced the pasembur as an additional menu item to the already fantastic mee rebus & goreng. His business took off like a runaway American Atlas ICBM so it wasn't at all surprising that (according to my mates in the village) he eventually bought over the kopitiam (coffeeshop) from the Chinese owner.
Aneh (Elder Brother) is now one big towkay (rich businessman). It's the story of an Indian success.
Then there was Subramanian. Subra was a wandering barber in my village. He plied his trade by walking around and seeking out known clients (like young kaytee), while carrying an old small suitcase which contained his equipment including the barber's sheet.
His village trade eventually disappeared in the face of growing affluence in society and the appearance and greater attraction of girlie barber salons, which provide not only haircut complete with shampoo and drying, but also ear cleaning (I could never take the 'pain' of the scrapping though I think it was more psychological than actual physical pain – I dreaded the very scary thought of the sweetie plunging her traditional Chinese-designed ear de-waxer right through my ear drums, ouch & gulp!); there was of course the massaging as well, yup, of zones way beyond the region of the head.
All poor Subra could provide by way of competition was the old fashioned Thuggee-style twisting of the neck to produce a couple of satisfying but frightening 'cracks' (or snaps) – at times I wonder whether he was going to break my neck. But poor Subra's livelihood inevitably succumbed to modernity and his personal problems, mainly excessive toddy.
Unlike the mee rebus Aneh, he became a total failure. The last time I saw Subra was years ago when I returned home for Chinese New Year celebrations. Shabby, unwashed and smelling of various odour, especially stale toddy, he staggered into my house to pay me a CNY visit. Naturally I welcomed the elderly Uncle and invited him for a drink of, no, not toddy, but traditional F&N sarsi. Declining my welcoming drink he asked rather bluntly whether I could spare him a couple of ringgit.
I always have a soft spot for Subra, despite him occasionally giving a then very young kaytee a cuff or two on the head for not sitting still when he was cropping my hair. I gave him RM20 which saw him seeking leave from me straightaway to hunt down the village Chinese samsu shop man (because it was CNY and the shop was closed). I haven't seen Subra since that sad parting.
Here we have two examples of Indian Malaysians where one has been innovative and extremely successful while the other gradually became a failure, owing to his inability to cope with the changing business scene of barbering and his own indiscipline.
So how man? In the last half a century there's more Subra's than mee-rebus Aneh's. Yes, there were, have been, are and will be the Chinese equivalents of Subra but never to the shocking numbers in the Indian community.
May I, without offending anyone, say something about the difference between pathetically poor Chinese and pathetically poor Indians? There's a noticeable lack of support for and within the latter group, unlike the poor Chinese. In this (kaytee's observation) I believe the MIC has a lot to answer to, especially when you read of the son of a MIC bigwig boasting he housed his German Shepherd pet in an air-conditioned kennel.
Kula is absolutely correct in stating "When it is established why crime and school dropout rates and incidence of single parentage are high among Indian Malaysians, we can begin to find the solutions to the problems of the community." What's the point of running back to an equally miserable life in the plantation?

Polycarbonate infant milk bottles containing the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) will be outlawed from March 1 next year.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the Cabinet had decided to ban such milk bottles due to BPA's risk to infant hormone systems.
"The enforcement will be made in stages and the industry is given one year to comply with the decision by making changes to their machines and buying new raw materials," he told a press conference yesterday.
Liow urged parents and guardians of infants and children to make the switch now to bottles marked "BPA-free" which were widely available in the local market.
He said the decision for the ban was made as there was no scientific evidence which proved that BPA bottles were safe for use by high-risk groups namely infants and children.
"This action was taken in case BPA could definitely affect the hormone and other body function systems," he said.
Enforcement against retailers selling milk bottles containing BPA will start from March 1 next year.
Liow said the move was in line with the World Health Organisation's recommendations, adding that the European Union (EU) had made a similar announcement earlier this month to make the ban effective in June for EU-member countries.
Other countries that have banned the chemical in milk bottles include Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the state of New York in the United States.
BPA is used in polycarbonate to make baby milk bottles because it made the plastic translucent and stiffer while those without BPA had a less clear and dirtier look.

To watch the unfolding of an on-going tragedy in the warmth of one's home is one of the most uncomfortable senses of being that I have ever experienced, so far. The tragedy that is hitting Japan today is a sad moment.
Christchurch and the other earthquake incidents were one-off. There was the quake, and a few tremors. Or, there was the tsunami, and all was gone. But to watch the earthquake and then the tsunami and then the unsteadiness of the nuclear plants and to see crowds of people with nowhere to go, hungry, cold and lost, and then to see the plain devastation of an entire village and town where thousands used to live and are there no more, that scene in my mind is the most heart wretching.
I watched the unfolding drama with my Japanese friend and his wife. They had the nervous laughter, unable to show their sadness in front of their guests, and forever trying to play the perfect host and hostess. Their two boys and a girl are in Tokyo and in the initial hours they could not keep contact. Finally, they found one son walking home seven kilometres, the daughter squeezing in among friends in fear, and the youngest son could only responded: "What, OK!" They have a fallout with their youngest son and my friend concluded that the one consolation of this disaster is that he and his wife could at the very least have some form of communication with their son.
I said to my youngest sister who I discovered has already passed forty when we were watching the tragedy on TV that this is a tragedy only because of the insignificance of the lives of human beings. The earth is nothing but a ball of fire and the other layer has cooled to form a crust which is in a constant state of flux, like the skull. The movement is constant, but in human terms, this is what the engineers called a once in a hundred year event. Well, if a moment for the earth is a hundred years for humans, then our individual lives do not last more than one moment each, in global terms, and probably far less than in cosmic terms. We are like insects that are born in the morning and die by night fall. And what do we do in this shortness of time. We fight, we lie, we cheat, we become generally unhappy with ourselves and everybody else. How silly are we all!
So, there is no big deal to this former prime minister of our who has again distinguished himself by writing a book of lies to justify his wrongdoings, and calling everybody else names. I have find it extremely unpleasant for supposed educated young and old men and women to degrade themselves as intellectual by extreme forms of arguments when good manners should have prevailed. Instead of focusing on the subject matter, they would focus on character assassination and calling people names. Sticking labels on people is one the easiest and lowest forms of human communication and I can see now where our young people are getting their bad manners from. Economists, unfortunately, have become extremely ill-mannered ever since Keynes published The General Theory. He argued that in order to get his argument across and to break through a tough convention, he had to be rude - in his words, to "convict" his opponent. Since then, economists have acquired very bad manners in their talking and writing. I have learned this little thing from my Malay colleagues when I was working in a major bank. The executive director told me: "You might be clever, but you must make people accept you first." I am eternally gratefully to this person, who unfortunately had fallen into disgrace due to his lack of good judgement in his work. If you want to know why economists do not agree, it is because they are rude, no matter how brainy they may imagine themselves to be.
So, what about the economy? I have refrained from making any comments on the economy because I have already said what I have wanted to say about it. The global economy stands in ruin because of the reckless pumping of fiat money by the irresponsible Fed of the US. That extra money is being used to keep its economy by the propagation of war around the world. The mountain of extra printed money flooded rapidly through the financial centres around the world making arrogant stockbrokers and bankers. They lend recklessly to speculators on real estate and financial assets. The pumping of more money to prevent these asset markets from correction and downward adjustment is now being lauded as the saviour of the global economy because economists do not have any new ideas to solve this economic disaster. Any correction of the asset markets would be a political and human disaster. The global economy now swims afloat a sea of greenbacks trying to find dry land. If the stock markets are recovering, do not believe that the global economy is recovering; it is bad money looking for good avenues to surface. In the meantime, China suffers from its own success and the world suffers from the scarce resources that China has the money to buy.
We know from history that the great wars are started by massive inflation especially with respect to food so that whoever or whatever promises to put on the tables of hungry fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters, there is a revolution waiting to happen. China is not like the Middle East or the rest of the world, because China is communist and communists are supposed to live and die for the rakyat. China may yet find a narrow path out of the world of contending factions.

This is Desi's first Post after the 8.9 earthquake and tsunami struck northern Japan -- worst scenes were at Sendai.
Astro's channel 511 CNN (Cable News Network) was constantly on and only meal and tea breaks could tear me form the idiot box -- NOT so idiotic after all in times of disaster such as this.
When the images -- often LIVE from NHK World, and other more personal sources including home Video via iReports -- beamed directyly into one's living room, the main thing on my mind from the beginning was that Man did not have to waste bullets, bombs and missiles destoying one another. Mother Nature's fury is greater than all the manmade machines combined -- US, China, Russia, the Arab countries, the African nations, ah, Southeast Asia including Malaysia.
Inevitably discussions with friends later at tehtarik corners would come up topics of ***Nostradamus' and other philosophers' prophecies, plus movies such as "2012" predicting the end of the world as humans know it.

Michel de Nostredame (14 or 21 December 1503 – 2 July 1566), usually Latinised to Nostradamus, was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide. He is best known for his book Les Propheties (The Prophecies), the first edition of which appeared in 1555. Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death, Nostradamus has attracted a following that, along with the popular press, credits him with predicting many major world events.)
And if the increasingly "frightening" developments at the five nuclear plants in SEndai still have not convinced the Malaysian gomen about revisiting it's proposed nuclear plant, then wait another few days when the ultimate occurs (Desi's take...I think it will) ...THE FIRST MELTDOON AT THE number 3 plant. Even Japanese PM had just stated about "VERY High Risk" of more radiaton coming out after a THIRD EXPLOSION at Reactor No.2 this morning (about 6AM Japaneses time Tuesday).
I just watched ANDERSON COOPER (of 360degrees fame) and colleague Dr Sanjay Gupta just 64km from where the nuclear plans are located, and the government had evacuated the some 200,000 residents from 20km-radius, and residents within 30km have been advised to "stay indoors". And the best education I have been receiving is listening to the science experts about the scientific implications as the developments evolved from the first day. And it's NOT surprising to get "conflicting" reports because of the various degrees of honesty and expertise of the spokesman, especially from the owneers of the Fukushima plants where three reactors have been giving trouble, and where the PM Kan has acknowledged "very high risk of further radiation".
I was telling a friend that these CNN journalists -- and others from rival networks -- are truly the epitome of journalist practitioners -- GOING TO THE DANGER ZONES AT THE RISK OF THEIR OWN LIVES.
In the tragedy still unfolding, nuggets of "joy" appeared. Cooper and gang managed to track down an American teaching English at the scene of disaster PAUL FALES to RECONNECT HAPPILY VIA THE TELEPHONE/TV with his parents back in the United States.
To all the various volunteers from across the world who have sent rescue and humanitarian teams to help Japan in distress, I can only say: God be with thee. The world is truly one, as the Beatles have constantly reminded us:) We are the world?

Radiation level soars after Japan nuke plant fire
By ERIC TALMADGE and SHINO YUASA, Associated Press
– 32 mins ago
SOMA, Japan – Dangerous levels of radiation leaking from a crippled nuclear plant forced Japan to order 140,000 people to seal themselves indoors Tuesday after an explosion and a fire dramatically escalated the crisis spawned by a deadly tsunami.
In a nationally televised statement, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said radiation has spread from the four stricken reactors of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant along Japan's northeastern coast. The region was shattered by Friday's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the ensuing tsunami that is believed to have killed more than 10,000 people, plunged millions into misery and pummeled the world's third-largest economy.
Japanese officials told the International Atomic Energy Agency that the reactor fire was in a storage pond and that "radioactivity is being released directly into the atmosphere." Long after the fire was extinguished, a Japanese official said the pool, where used nuclear fuel is kept cool, might be boiling.
"We cannot deny the possibility of water boiling" in the pool, said Hidehiko Nishiyama, an official with the economy ministry, which oversees nuclear safety.
That reactor, Unit 4, had been shut down before the quake for maintenance.
If the water boils, it could evaporate, exposing the rods. The fuel rods are encased in safety containers meant to prevent them from resuming nuclear reactions, nuclear officials said, downplaying the risk of that happening.
But they acknowledged that there could have been damage to the containers. They also confirmed that the walls of the storage pool building were damaged.
Though Kan and other officials urged calm, Tuesday's developments fueled a growing panic in Japan and around the world amid widespread uncertainty over what would happen next. In the worst case scenario, one or more of the reactor cores would completely melt down, a disaster that could spew large amounts of radioactivity into the atmosphere.
"I worry a lot about fallout," said Yuta Tadano, a 20-year-old pump technician at the Fukushima plant, who said he was in the complex when quake hit.
"If we could see it we could escape, but we can't," he said, cradling his 4-month-old baby, Shoma, at an evacuation center.
The radiation fears added to the catastrophe that has been unfolding in Japan, where at least 10,000 people are believed to have been killed and millions of people have spent four nights with little food, water or heating in near-freezing temperatures as they dealt with the loss of homes and loved ones. Up to 450,000 people are in temporary shelters.
Asia's richest country hasn't seen such hardship since World War II. The stock market plunged for a second day and a spate of panic buying saw stores running out of necessities, raising government fears that hoarding may hurt the delivery of emergency food aid to those who really need it.
In a rare bit of good news, rescuers found a 70-year-old woman alive in her swept-away home four days after the tsunami flattened much of Japan's northeastern coast.
The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex, along that battered coastline, has been the focus of the worries. Workers there have been desperately trying to use seawater to cool the fuel rods in the complex's three reactors, all of which lost their cooling ability after Friday's quake and tsunami.
On Tuesday, the complex was hit by its third explosion since Friday, and then a fire in a separate reactor.
Afterward, officials just south of the area reported up to 100 times the normal levels of radiation, Kyodo News agency reported. While those figures are worrying if there is prolonged exposure, they are far from fatal.
Tokyo reported slightly elevated radiation levels, but officials said the increase was too small to threaten the 39 million people in and around the capital, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) away. Closer to the stricken nuclear complex, the streets in the coastal city of Soma were empty as the few residents who remained there heeded the government's warning to stay indoors.
Kan and other officials warned there is danger of more leaks and told people living within 19 miles (30 kilometers) of the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex to stay indoors to avoid exposure that could make people sick.
"Please do not go outside. Please stay indoors. Please close windows and make your homes airtight," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told residents in the danger zone.
"These are figures that potentially affect health. There is no mistake about that," he said.
Weather forecasts for Fukushima were for snow and wind from the northeast Tuesday evening, blowing southwest toward Tokyo, then shifting and blowing east out to sea. That's important because it shows which direction a possible nuclear cloud might blow.
Some 70,000 people had already been evacuated from a 12-mile (20-kilometer) radius from the Dai-ichi complex. About 140,000 remain in the new warning zone.
Officials said 70 workers were at the complex, struggling with its myriad problems. The workers, all of them wearing protective gear, are being rotated in and out of the danger zone quickly to reduce their radiation exposure.
Another 800 staff were evacuated. The fires and explosions at the reactors have injured 15 workers and military personnel and exposed up to 190 people to elevated radiation.
Temperatures in at least two of the complex's reactors, units 5 and 6, were also slightly elevated, Edano said.
"The power for cooling is not working well and the temperature is gradually rising, so it is necessary to control it," he said.
Fourteen pumps have been brought in to get seawater into the other reactors. They are not yet pumping water into Unit 4 but are trying to figure out how to do that.
In Tokyo, slightly higher-than-normal radiation levels were detected Tuesday but officials insisted there are no health dangers.
"The amount is extremely small, and it does not raise health concerns. It will not affect us," Takayuki Fujiki, a Tokyo government official said.
Kyodo reported that radiation levels nine times higher than normal were briefly detected in Kanagawa prefecture near Tokyo and that the Tokyo metropolitan government said it had detected a small amount of radioactive materials in the air.
Edano said the radiation readings had fallen significantly by the evening.
Japanese government officials are being rightly cautious, said Donald Olander, professor emeritus of nuclear engineering at University of California at Berkeley. He believed even the heavily elevated levels of radiation around Dai-ichi are "not a health hazard." But without knowing specific dose levels, he said it was hard to make judgments.
"Right now it's worse than Three Mile Island," Olander said. But it's nowhere near the levels released during Chernobyl.
On Three Mile Island, the radiation leak was held inside the containment shell — thick concrete armor around the reactor. The Chernobyl reactor had no shell and was also operational when the disaster struck. The Japanese reactors automatically shut down when the quake hit and are encased in containment shells.
Olander said encasing the reactors in a concrete sarcophagus — the last-ditch effort done in Chernobyl — is far too premature. Operators need to wait until they cool more, or risk making the situation even worse.
Millions of people spent a fourth night with little food, water or heating in near-freezing temperatures as they dealt with the loss of homes and loved ones. Asia's richest country hasn't seen such hardship since World War II.
With snow and freezing temperatures forecast for the next several days, shelters were gathering firewood to burn for heat, stacking it under tarps and tables.
Though Japanese officials have refused to speculate on the overall death toll, Indonesian geologist Hery Harjono, who dealt with the 2004 Asian tsunami, said it would be "a miracle really if it turns out to be less than 10,000" dead.
The 2004 tsunami killed 230,000 people — of which only 184,000 bodies were found.
Rescuers were heartened Tuesday to find one survivor.
The 70-year-old woman was found inside her house, which had been washed away by the tsunami, said Osaka fire department spokesman Yuko Kotani, whose teams had raced to the region to help with disaster relief. It wasn't clear if the house was still at sea, or if it had returned to the shoreline, when she was found.
The woman was conscious but suffering from hypothermia and is being treated at a hospital, Kotani said.
The impact of the earthquake and tsunami dragged down stock markets. The benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average plunged for a second day Tuesday, nose-diving more than 10 percent to close at 8,605.15 while the broader Topix lost more than 8 percent.
To lessen the damage, Japan's central bank made two cash injections totaling 8 trillion yen ($98 billion) Tuesday into the money markets after pumping in $184 billion on Monday.
Initial estimates put repair costs in the tens of billions of dollars, costs that would likely add to a massive public debt that, at 200 percent of gross domestic product, is the biggest among industrialized nations.
The Dai-ichi plant is the most severely affected of three nuclear complexes that were declared emergencies after suffering damage in Friday's quake and tsunami, raising questions about the safety of such plants in coastal areas near fault lines and adding to global jitters over the industry.

Memang UMNO kerja suka menipu orang Melayu.

YB Nurul Izzah Anwar
This morning we woke up to the news of a third explosion at the Daiici nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan. According to reports via Reuters and The New York Times, the explosion in reactor No 2 occured at 6:14am local time dan the resulting damage appears to be more critical, thereby indicating that a "full meltdown" scenario is increasingly possilbe. Reuters added that the radiation levels surrounding said nuclear power plant has increased four-fold.
Therefore I call upon the Federal Government to be swift and accurate in acting to clarify the real situation in Japan, and how this unfolding event will ultimately affect Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. What percentage possibility is there that the radiation from these nuclear power plants can reach Malaysia, based on a "full meltdown" scenario? What precautionary measures should all Malaysians take? Is the Federal Government truly ready to respond if such a nuclear contamination incident were to occur?
At the same time, the Federal Government must put on hold all discussions and plans to build any nuclear power plants or rare earth refineries in this country.
