Since I am awake

Since I am awake

Ah le! Mana diorang ada duit. Where they got money! Tokkok onny!

On days when I send my daughter to her school ride at 0700 hrs. I read the Sun. Today's edition has a rather interesting report on page 2.  In the story headlined 100-day reform plan 'irresponsible' it was reported that Prime Minister, Najib rubbished the Opposition's 100-day reform plan saying that it was a populist and irresponsible measure. That coming from Mr. do-or-say- whatever-is-populist (1Malaysia, You help me I help you etc.) is quite funny. He said that the Opposition would not have the means to do what they promised because it did not take into account financial sources when they (the Opposition) announced their plan.

"So how can they deliver all those they promised to the people?"

The Opposition had pledged to, among others, abolish the Internal Security Act, reduce subsidies for the private sector, give a RM500 monthly increment for teachers and increase oil royalties by 20% for Sabah, Terengganu and Kelantan in the first 3 months of it being in power.

In rubbishing the Opposition's plans Najib said that the country would in 2 years time become like Greece if the promises were implemented without considering the country's actual capacity.

Well, my dear Prime Minister even with my severe lack of sleep last night I am thinking that the Opposition announced what they would do only because they already knew that if ......

a) we stopped the wastage of resources

 b) curtail corruption and

c) maybe reduce the size of the staff of the Prime Minister's department (last reputed to be in access of 42,000 with an annual operating budget of RM4billion ......

We would have more than enough money to achieve what the Opposition planned.

Yes? I think so. Don't you?

[Raja Petra] Kekeliruan Perlantikan SUK Selangor

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:43 AM PST

Political Correctness OR the Malaysian Christian Church's Obediance to the Malaysian 'Islamic' Regime

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:05 AM PST

By Admin

Under the headline 'Much ado about nothing!' yesterday's edition of the Catholic weekly, The Herald, tackled the removal of crucifixes issue that flared in the immediate aftermath of the Christian Federation of Malaysia's Christmas open house attended by Prime Minister Najib Razak...Malaysiakini.

Not only the article in the Herald missed the point, it also failed or neglected to state when the carols were sung, prayers were prayed and scriptures read. Were all these done before the PM's arrival or after his arrival? These are two versions of the same event. Dr. Herman Shastri, Secretary General of CCM, emphatically told the Sun on 2nd Jan, " No Christmas carols or prayers were sung and recited during the event and the Grace before meals was recited before Najib's arrival. An African Christian group performed a sequence of dances that had no relation to the significance of Christmas". All these ceased upon his arrival and the directives or requests of Datuk Hardev (an Official from the PM's Department) were complied with to the letter.

Has Political Correctness on the part of the Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Church in Malaysia resulted in this shameful episode where, if true, the Leaders of the Church in Malaysia have DENIED JESUS CHRIST just to please Prime Minister Najib Razak and his supoosedly Holy and Islamic Racist Ketuanan Melayu BN/Umno Regime. This is best summed up in a Comment left by a Reader of MarGeeMar below:

It was a Birthday Party for the Baby Jesus but because King Herod (Najib Razak) was coming, the Pharasees (Najib's Aides) made sure the Birthday Boy (Baby Jesus) was not invited to His own 'Birthday Party'. Shame on you Archbishop Murphy, CFM, NECF. I wonder how many times the cock needed to crow this time when the Archbishop denied Jesus just to please King Herod (Najib) and the Pharasees (Najib's Aides).

Archbishop Murphy, you not only owe your flock an explanation but also ought to return your 'Tan Sri' title where it came from.

Whatever the case, either Archbishop Murphy Pakiam or Rev. Herman Shastri owe their flock a clarification and tell the TRUTH and nothing but the TRUTH. Failing to do so, will only tarnish the image of God's Church in Malaysia.

Ban Hindraf, Najib... and strip Moorthy's citizenship!

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:01 AM PST

None of the Malaysian Chinese, the second largest race in the country had never instigated Beijing to sever its trade or other bilateral ties with Malaysia. Yes, there were some mistreatment and things like that. They understand that no government is so perfect.

Neither MCA, Gerakan nor other Chinese associations or NGOs have ever requested mainland China to do so. They remain Malaysians.

However, Hindraf which represents a minority of Malaysian Indians went overboard by asking New Delhi to sever all trade relation with Malaysia. There only reason, 'ill-treatment of the Indians by Malaysian Government' (here).

The call was made based on Hindraf's Malaysian Indian Minority and Human Rights Violations annual report 2010 which claimed that Malaysian Indians were suffering grave human rights violations committed by the Malaysian government. Hindraf activists had distributed copies of the report at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Overseas Indians Conference) in New Delhi, which commenced yesterday last Friday.

(Former MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu was also there leading a 150-strong delegation but did not say anything to refute Hindraf's claim).

Based on news reports published by the Malaysian media, the Hindraf report alleged that 95 per cent of those killed by the Malaysian police were Indians, 90 per cent of custodial deaths and 80 per cent of those who experienced 'police harassment, unlawful arrests, frivolous and malicious prosecutions', were Malaysian Indians.

The report added that 48 per cent of prisoners in 28 prisons in Malaysia were ethnic Indians and in 2010 alone, 5,000 Indians were arrested and detained under the Emergency Ordinance, which allowed for detention without trial.

But a Human Ministry's report said about 200,000 Indian youths in Malaysia were involved in crime. About 100,000 ethnic Indian gangsters operate in Malaysia.

This gave Hindraf chairman's P Waythamoorthy (pic) the 'license' to ask the Indian government to issue a note of censure against its Malaysian counterpart in a language consistent with the serious and urgent nature of the problem.

I think Moorthy doesnt consider himself as a Malaysia, and so the rest of Hindraf members. They feel they are citizens of India. That's why they wanted to see the Malaysian economy takes a flop, hence giving room for its Indian gangsters to run an amok for survival.

This guy is a traitor. I commend former premier Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for outlawing Hindraf during his tenancy but Najib legalised them.

People like Moorthy doesnt deserve to be a Malaysian and I personally would like the Home Minister to take up this matter. If there is a need to strip his citizenship, I believe many Indians would support the move!

Moorthy and his followers can leave Malaysia once they get their Indian citizenship!

Major Dick Winters 1918-2011

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 06:09 AM PST

The man who was later to be immortalized as the main character in the acclaimed HBO miniseries 'Band of Brothers', Major Dick Winters, has died at the age of 92.

Major Winters led Easy Company (later 2nd Battalion), 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in World War II. Easy Company was part of the Airborne spearhead on D-Day. It campaigned in France, in the Low Countries as part of Operation Market Garden, helped stop the last Nazi counteroffensive in the Ardennes, liberated a concentration camp inside Germany and was finally assigned to capture Hitler's retreat in the Alps at Berchtesgaden, otherwise known as Eagle's Nest.

Major Winters was buried today in a private ceremony. He had apparently been in failing health for some time.

The man who, like so many others of his generation, fought so valiantly for peace has finally found his own peace eternal. Rest in peace, sir.

Did Rais Yatim Rape His Indonesian Maid Or Not?

Did Malaysian Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim rape his Indonesian Maid named Rubingah in 2007? Or was it a political move to get rid of Rais from the cabinet and kill his political career? It is rather strange that it is pro-BN Bloggers like Rocky Bru and Big Dog Com who are going after Rais Yatim's blood. Rocky's Bru, written by Ahirudin Bin Attan, President of the National Press Club of Malaysia. Rocky's Bru historically has been closely aligned with former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. It appears that there is a great power struggle within the ranks of Umno. This makes sense as to why the BN controlled mainstream media has been going on an overdrive to 'Demonize' the Opposition Pakatan Rakyat through it's Spin masters like Baradan Kuppusamy, Joceline Tan, Wong Chun Wai et al and also have roped in half-baked analysts such as Universiti Sains Malaysia Professor Sivamurugan Pandian to distract the Rakyat (People) from Umno's serious power struggle.

Two Indonesian agencies, one a government body and the other an NGO, are offering opposing stories on whether Rubingah was raped by Malaysian Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim in 2007. Jumhur Hidayat, chairman of the National Board for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Overseas Workers, said Friday in Jakarta that the maid had delivered a written statement to four of the board's personnel in central Java that she had never been raped and that she had been treated well in Rais's home. However, this version has raised more doubts if you read THIS

Interestingly, Anis Hidayah, the director of Migrant Care, an Indonesian NGO, said Rubingah had reported in 2007 that she had indeed been raped and that a report had been filed with the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Indonesian National Police. Anis Hidayah said Rubingah had claimed at the time that she had been raped. Read more here

Kenapa suka bunuh kaum India?

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 04:43 AM PST

Oleh Anak Mami

Berapakah mangsa akan ikut jerjak Kugan?? Mati dibunuh , dibelasah , didera hingga mati ?

Memang pun diakui ramai pegawai polis bekelayakan tingkatan lima, tidak berotak cerdik, tapi gila kuasa, tambahan pula empunyai semangat anti pendatang, maka mintalah kerja polis. bila masuki polis cuma tahu carii duit, bukan cari penjenayah, kalau tak dapat bukti maka hentam hinggai mengaku salah.

Ibrahim Chua vs Ibrahim Ali

By Anak Mami

President of Perkacin - Ibrahim Chua
"Do you know what the prime minister said to the family? Were you there?" he asked a reporter who had highlighted Lee Lan's claims.
"It is not fair to say what the family said is true and what the prime minister said is not true," added Dr Chua.
He also stressed that Teoh's death should not be used to gain political mileage.
"We extend our fullest sympathy but it should not be politicised," he said.
President of Perkasa Ibrahim Ali

"Ia (keputusan) mahkamah terbuka. Jadi maksudnya, kita serah kepada polis untuk disiasat (punca kematian).
"Kalau ada yang bersalah, dia boleh didakwa. Kenapa hendak sibuk dengan suruhanjaya," kata Ibrahim

It is most disgusting, disgraceful & insulting to have a community leader like IBrahim Chua. An "INHUMAN" Being who can't even be compared to an "ANIMAL"!... so lacking in compassion, humanity, family love and love for a fellow Human Being!

What he does in his personal life & "stolen moments" ...and how he "SINNED" behind his wife & family is his private business, ... BUT to comment with that STUPID CYNICAL LOOK & SNEERING SMILE and asking sarcastically [as shown in the TV news broadcast].. "Do you know what the PM spoke to the family? Were you there?" ... insinuates that Teoh Beng Hock's family's disclosure of PM's personal promise & commitment to them were all made-up to solicit "public-sympathy"!

How can the MCA members expect the Chinese Community & other Non-UMNO Malays and Non-Malays communities to support the Party? Political & Inhuman "BEASTS & TRAITORS" like IBrahim Chua will HELP to COMPLETE the 12GE 3/2008 TSUNAMI & Political Landscape Transformation in the coming 13GE... favouring the PR Coalition!!!

Having being a staunch supporter of MCA/BN [Alliance then].. It is DISGUSTING to have SADISTS & PORNOGRAPHIC ARTISTE pretending to be Malaysian National Leaders & Lawmakers!...... MCA is FINISHED!!!

IBrahim Chua knows that MCA's STUPID Self-Interests-Vested members voted for him to "JOINTLY"[JV Venture!]] "Raid" "Bleed & Blood-Suck" the "Wealth & Assets" of the Party!
He realizes his Party Presidency Tenure is going to be Short! His "internal" party moves & manouvers display very ''SUBTLE" but " Powerful" Corporate "Surgical" "Incisions & Cuts" [ The MP son, is BUT an innocent party & a Pawn to his "crooked" greedy ambitions]... and don't be surprised he involves & benefits [ as partners] many "friendly" UMNO Malay colleagues as well!

Tan Cheng Lock & Tan Siew Sin will "RISE UP" from their Graves to "Haunt" him, his innocent MP son and croonies.. IF he leaves MCA as a badly bloody & bleeding "broken" political party with "HUGE FINANCIAL LOSSES & LEAKAGES" !!

MCA members, who love the Party should organize immediately "INTERNAL AUDIT" and "INTERNAL ASSETS PROTECTION & PRESERVATION" specialized teams to POLICE & MONITOR IBrahim Chua's "hidden" & Underground" $$$ party activities!

DAMN HIM for his remarks on the TBH's Issue & putting the "NAIL" on the "COFFIN of MCA"!!! An innocent Life had been lost while in custody & being investigated by MACC, a POWERFUL Govt. Agency! .... and IBrahim Chua talks "COCK!"

Sampai bila kita hendak menyalahkan pembangkang jika kita didapati bersalah.

Anwar Ibrahim and the Muslim Brotherhood: A Picture Worth a Thousand Words!

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 02:13 AM PST

By Malaysia Watcher (Used without Permission)

Anwar Ibrahim is a far cry from the "voice of democracy" he'd like you think he is. Nor is he the "moderate" Muslim he has persuaded some in America to see him as, with friends like Al Gore and Paul Wolfowitz. In fact, if a picture is worth a thousand words, take a look at the ones we have here: they harken back twenty years, and show Anwar in the company of a man branded by many counter-terrorism experts as a one-time inspiration to Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda!

That man is Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

Qaradawi, whom the American Jewish Committee has called "a radical Muslim Brotherhood Ideologue" with "xenophobic and anti-Semitic views", has been linked to Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden through the Bank Al-Taqwa, where he is a principal shareholder and former Sharia advisor . His decades-long leadership role (he has twice been offered a chairmanship and admits that the Brotherhood considers him "their Mufti") within the Muslim Brotherhood may also indicate a further link to Al Qaeda, as the Brotherhood served as a springboard for Al Qaeda devotees like Ayman Al-Zawahiri and Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

The Brotherhood, also known as the Ikwhan, was founded in Egypt in 1928 by an Egyptian schoolteacher named Hassan al-Banna, whom Qaradawi cites as a key figure in his own religious and intellectual development. Dedicated to the supremacy of Islam and Sharia law, the Brotherhood's motto from its earliest day is chilling to Western ears: "Allah our objective; the Quran our constitution; the Prophet our leader; Jihad our way; and death for the sake of Allah the highest of our aspirations."

The Brotherhood was banned in Egypt decades ago, but going underground, and being forced to create and engage front groups did not slow its evolution. Today the Brotherhood comprises a global network of Islamist extremists that has spawned such groups as al-Jihad and al-Gama'at al-Islamiyya in Egypt, Hamas, and mujahideen groups in Afghanistan. Though the Brotherhood often claims to be made up of moderates, it is in reality one of the largest, most influential anti-Semitic, Islamist terrorist groups in the world. Qaradawi now serves as the organization's spiritual leader, issuing fatwas that legitimize and encourage the most controversial Brotherhood methods and ideas, including suicide bombing, the death penalty for homosexuality, and the rightness of the Holocaust.

Qaradawi tries to masquerade as a moderate Muslim, but his outspoken views mark him as the most dangerous kind of radical;and here he is with Anwar Ibrahim, another so-called moderate:

But this is not the only evidence that Malaysia's Opposition Leader is no moderate Muslim. In fact Anwar seems positively proud of his association with Qaradawi. As recently as 2005, his website featured a picture of him with Yusuf al-Qaradawi, one of the most important leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and in many ways its spiritual father. (The photo has since been removed, Anwar having apparently realized how unwise it was to display it.) No moderate Muslim would want to display such a picture, as Qaradawi represents the very Islamist ideology that real moderates eschew. Yet just two years ago Qaradawi was named as a part of the "board and executive members" for Anwar's International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT). Since 2002, U.S. authorities have investigated the IIIT repeatedly on suspicions of money laundering and terror financing. The picture of the two men together may no longer be found on Anwar's website, but his commitment to a brand of radical Islam that is directly opposed to democracy remains unchanged.

Qaradawi, who has supported Anwar throughout his controversial career, has been banned from entering the United States since 1999. Like Anwar, he claims to represent a moderate form of Islam, but his public record shows otherwise. In August 2005, Qaradawi's European Council for Fatwa and Research was reported to have used the notoriously anti-Semitic forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, for theological purposes. Qaradawi has also declared that all Muslims are duty-bound to support Hezbollah; and he has stated that "The abduction and killing of Americans in Iraq is a [religious] obligation."

Anwar not only associates with Qaradawi, but supports his radical pro-jihad, anti-democratic doctrines. Yet, he stresses the opposite when he visits Washington, D.C., and strangely enough Anwar is not only welcome but, in some corners, admired in the United States. Qaradawi has been banned from the U.S., but his influence will continue to filter in as long as moderate pretenders like Anwar are granted unquestioning access to American media and policy makers.

Remember we mentioned the photo of Anwar and Qaradawi that used to be on Anwar's website? And remember that it was too radioactive for Anwar to keep it there? Well, he may want the world to forget that he's an ideological scion of the Muslim Brotherhood's guiding intellect: but that doesn't change the fact that he is. And it doesn't change the fact that many photographs of the two together exist.

Whenever Anwar Ibrahim claims to be a moderate, democratic Islamic leader, these images are the first things he must explain. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Gray divorces are on the rise, and I'm not surprised. We've all heard of the 7-year itch - that's when after seven years of marital bliss, husbands start to have roving eyes and wives start to roll their eyes and beat their hearts in helpless frustration.

That was a generation or two ago when most wives didn't have much of an education and had no means of fending for themselves and their young children if they left their husbands. For them divorce was not an option. So they remained the faithful, long-suffering wife while their husband went AWOL night after night.

Not anymore. These women have been bidding their time waiting till the children are all grown and on their own before filing for divorce. This is the 37-itch, and this time it's the women who are getting the itch, to split, that is.

Being divorced is no longer a social stigma for older women in their 50s and 60s. They are not willing to settle for less or second best anymore. Why should they? They can't see themselves remaining in a boring, loveless marriage, having to share space 24/7 with someone whom they have little in common with. Financially independent, college-educated and empowered by those who have already taken the bold step, these women are ready to move forward to a new chapter of life without their men by their side. And the future looks promising and exciting. For many, it's Freedom At Last!

Gray Divorce Statistics

According to the 2008 U.S. Census, 25% of new divorces were among couples married at least 20 years and 51% of those divorced were Baby Boomers (born between 1946-64).
The Gores split in 2010 after 40 years of marriage.
Of the more shocking statistics, a study by American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) reported that 66% of the divorces studied were initiated by the wife.
Age-specific divorce rates in Singapore (Source: Statistics Singapore)
There are no available statistics of gray divorces in Malaysia. In Singapore, the numbers are still low, but if global trends are anything to go by, it's a matter of time before we see a spike in gray divorces in these countries.
Pay heed to these warning signs if you want to make your marriage last a lifetime.

KTMB offices raided over claims of RM85mil rigged ticketing tender
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission raided the offices of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) recently after an allegedly 'dodgy' tender exercise saw a multi-million ringgit contract being awarded to an 'underqualified' company.

The project, valued at close to RM100 million, is for a revamp of the ticketing system in all 56 KTM Komuter stations around the Klang Valley and in Negri Sembilan.

A local company won the award with a RM85 million bid, even though there were lower bids by companies with more experience in servicing the KTMB systems.

Malaysiakini has since learnt that the technical evaluation processes were rigged to accommodate the capabilities of the selected company.

"Even if they were not qualified in a particular section, they still got full marks for it," claimed a source familiar with the project.

The MACC investigation team moved into the KTMB office in Kuala Lumpur and raided the tender department on Dec 14 last year. It confiscated key documents, understood to include the technical scoresheets.

NONEMACC raided the KTMB offices again last Friday to collect more evidence.

According to a MACC insider, the investigations are still at the preliminary stage.

However, KTMB has disclaimed any role in the tender exercise.

The tender notice was published and announced on Aug 3 last year and submissions were closed on Sept 29.

It is learnt that the KTMB technical team did not conduct any site visit or request for demonstrations by the tenderer, as is required.

There was no evaluation of the tenders of the five companies that were shortlisted.

The two companies with existing projects involving the ticketing systems were rejected, although they had put in bids of RM69.8 million and RM72.6 million respectively.

It is understood that the tender was awarded based on the policy of the 15 percent bracket of the estimated budget of the project.

A RM100 million project would mean that the bracket would only enable companies with bids of 15 percent above or below the budget being awarded the contract.

This automatically disqualified the previous two companies who offered lower bids even though they have more experience in the field.

Policy not mandatory

It is understood, however, that it is not mandatory to comply with the policy.

azlanWhen met recently, former transport minister Ong Tee Keat(left in photo) said he had not heard of the policy during his tenure.

The project was mooted while he was minister, but only took off when his successor Kong Cho Ha (right in photo) took over.

On Dec 21, the project was awarded to Hopetech Sdn Bhd, with the letter of award signed by ministry secretary-general Long See Wool.

It is understood that the secretary-general heads the tender board in each ministry. Their signature on the letter of award is a standard practice in government contracts.

The revamp will also be funded by the National Key Result Area lab on urban public transport.

Already plagued by bad debts and mismanagement, KTMB had racked up RM1.45 billion in debt up to 2008 with hardly any means of paying for it.

According to the 2009 Auditor-General's report, KTMB has suffered net losses for three years in a row from 2006.

From 1994-2008, KTMB needed a RM760 million funding injection from the federal government just to sustain its operations.

Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat

PETALING JAYA (Aug 5, 2010) : Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said today the ministry welcomed an MACC probe into KTMB's RM1.89 billion purchase of electric trains from China as recommended by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
He told theSun the ministry had no qualms about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission accepting the PAC's recommendations.
"If PAC feels MACC should investigate, we have no problems with that," he said.
Kong said that as far as he was concerned, the MACC is welcome to probe any previous or current project undertaken by the ministry.
"If the MACC wants to investigate, (by all means) … we won't be selective … neither will we protect anyone."
theSun reported yesterday that PAC had formally made a request to the anti-graft body in a letter last week, and had included a copy of PAS MP Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad's debate speech on the 10th Malaysia Plan delivered during the March parliamentary meeting.
Dzulkefly was unhappy with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad's agreement with ZhuZhou Electric Locomotive Co Ltd of China to buy by direct negotiation, 38 units of six-car Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains at a cost of RM48 million each, which may be RM500 million more for the whole deal.
The company had earlier won a tender to supply eight three-car EMU units at a cost of RM13.725 million each.
The tender for the three-car units in 2008 was, however, cancelled following new demands and needs highlighted by the National Key Results Area (NKRA) for urban public transportation.
The NKRA had highlighted the need for a rapid increase in passenger capacity.
Asked about specifications yesterday, Kong said he was unsure of the technical details.
"These things were done much earlier and the deal even before I came into the ministry, though there is some final paperwork to be done," he said.
Former Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat however in his blog ( postings today, said the differences are not as simple as the CCTV and slide presentation panel as Dzulkefly claimed.
He however did not divulge further details on specifications.
"In my earlier blog posting (July 1), I did touch upon the difference in specifications between the 38 sets in question and the eight sets of three-rail car EMUs tendered earlier but later cancelled and unawarded.
"This was done solely based on my knowledge of the difference in specifications when I served as minister, though the direct negotiation and the subsequent award of contract was under the jurisdiction of the MOF (Finance Ministry)," Ong wrote.
In his July 1 posting, Ong wrote: "Any price comparison must always be based on the technical specifications, or we run the risk of comparing apples with oranges."
Yesterday, the Pandan MP said Dzukefly should have a better grasp of the detail specifications with a real understanding of the financial implications linked to the urgency of the purchase.
He stressed that he had "no intention of playing spokesman" for the Transport Ministry or other agency, but was merely guided by his conscience "to voice my concern over the matter".
"To me, any well-intentioned move to protect the public interest would only be meaningful if we can get the facts right," Ong added.
When the news broke that Najib has struck a deal with Singapore's counterpart Lee Hsien Loong regarding the KTM land in Singapore, I am surprised to see some commentators and readers sounding positive with it. Some readers on Malaysiakini were even surprisingly critical of Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's suspicion of the deal. Not much detail has been disclosed regarding the deal, so judging the merits of the deal is certainly premature. However, we should note that any deal coming from a prime minister of Malaysia with no track record of integrity is always alarming, especially when it seems to be rushed and little detail is disclosed. You can't fault anyone to think of another "submarine" or "Altantuya".
And let's wait for further details to be disclosed, if it will ever come. I bet many who are positive with the deal have not personally visited the KTM site. They would fail to appreciate the full opportunity (read: $$$) that Malaysia could be missing out.
I have extracted a map from Google Maps and indicated landmarks of significance in the larger area:
Click for larger view
The KTM land is located in Tanjong Pagar (lower left corner in the map), right at the end of a major street called Shenton Way. The area consisting of Shenton Way and Robinson Road is the heart of Singapore's financial industry, where important institutions and landmarks, like Monetary Authority of Singapore (Singapore's Bank Negara), The Treasury, DBS Bank, CPF (Singapore's EPF), SIA Tower, Capital Tower, International Plaza and Singapore Exchange, are located. At the adjacent area called the Marina Bay, the 'new CBD (central business district)' is currently under heavy development. That's where the most expensive property can be found. And incidentally that's also where the newly open 'sin city' of Singapore – Marina Sans Integrated Resort a.k.a. the casino – is located. The expressway at the bottom of the map snaking across is East Coast Parkway (ECP). Lands north of ECP are all prime (huge $$$), and south of it are the parks, sea and Keppel port. You can see that the remaining space with potential for further development is none other than the KTM land.
To appreciate the vicinity of the KTM land, look at the photo below:
Turn right at the end of Shenton Way, that is KTM Terminal
Considering the heavy development going on in the vicinity and the relatively large area size, the KTM land is a gold mine. By accident to the Malaysian government, of course, for nobody decades ago would imagine a train terminal sitting on a gold mine. It is under this context that all people of Malaysia should scrutinise the deal, whether or not the Najib administration has done for the maximum benefit of the country, whether or not there are any under-table deals undisclosed, for the benefits of his cronies. Only through disclosure of full details, especially the financial considerations, will the deal have a chance to be acceptable to all.
Arundhati Roy is giving us "the other side of the story" in this "Year of India" at Brown University and elsewhere. Media consumers in the US don't get it all in the TED talks, or in Nandan Nilekani's success epic, much less in Tom Friedman's relentless celebrations of the Bangalore boom in the New York Times. I sat with Ms. Roy for an hour and a half near MIT last Friday — first time since her book tour in another life, with the Booker Prize novel, The God of Small Things in 1998. This time she was just off a remarkable journalistic coup forOutlook India — an "embedded" report from the so-called "Maoist" uprising in the Northeastern states of India, the rebellion that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called India's greatest security threat and Arundhati Roy calls a battle for India's soul.
Listen to our conversation here:

AR: What does the boom do? It created a huge middle class — because India is a huge country, even a small percentage is a huge number of people — and it is completely invested in this process. So it did lift a large number of people into a different economic bracket altogether — now more billionaires in India than in China, and so on. But it created a far larger underclass being pushed into oblivion. India is home to the largest number of malnourished children in the world. You have 180,000 small farmers who've drunk pesticide and committed suicide because they've been caught in the death trap. You have a kind of ecocide where huge infrastructural projects are causing a drop in the water table. No single river now flows to the sea. There is a disaster in the making.

The way I see it, we had a feudal society decaying under the weight of its caste system, and so on. It was put into a machine and churned and some of the old discriminations were recalibrated. But what happened was that the whole separated into a thin layer of thick cream, and the rest of it is water. The cream is India's market, which consists of many millions of people who buy cellphones and televisions and cars and Valentine's Day cards; and the water is superfluous people who are non-consumers and just pawns who need to be drained away.
Those people are now rising up and fighting the system in a whole variety of ways. There's what I call a bio-diversity of resistance. There are Gandhians on the road, and there are Maoists in the forests. But all of them have the same idea: that this development model is only working for some and not for others.
CL: How do we Americans listen for a true Indian identity in this period of fantastic growth and, as you say, fantastic suffering?
AR: You know, I have stopped being able to think of things like Americans and Indians and Chinese and Africans. I don't know what those words mean anymore. Because in America, as in India and in China, what has happened is that the elites of these countries and the corporations that support their wealth and generate it form tham have seceded into outer space. They live somewhere in the sky, and they are their own country. And they look down on the bauxite in Orissa and the iron ore in Chhattisgarh and they say: 'what is our bauxite doing in their mountains?' They then justify to themselves the reasons for these wars.
If you look at what is going on now in that part of the world, from Afghanistan to the northeast frontiers of Pakistan, to Waziristan, to this so-called "red corridor" in India, what you're seeing is a tribal uprising. And it's taking the form of radical Islam in Afghanistan. It's taking the form of radical Communism in India. It's taking the form of struggles for self-determination in the northeastern states. But it's a tribal uprising, and the assault on them is coming from the same place. It's coming from free-market capitalism's desire to capture and control what it thinks of as resources. I think 'resources' is a problematic word because these things cannot be replenished once they are looted. But that is really the thing. And the people who are able to fight are those who are outside of the bar-coded, cellphone-networked, electronic age — who cannot be tracked and who can barely be understood.
It's a clash of civilizations, but not in the way that (Samuel P.) Huntington meant, you know. It's an inability to understand that the world has to change, or there will be — I mean, as we know, capitalism contains within itself the idea of a protracted war. But in that war… either you learn to keep the bauxite in the mountains, or you're not going to benefit from preaching morality to the victims of this war. A victory for this sort of establishment and its army and its nuclear weapons will never be a victory. Because your victory is your defeat, you know?

PR will make Msia Greece? BN has ALREADY made Msia Greece

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 12:38 AM PST

I do hate it when people say stupid things:

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak lambasted today the opposition's 100-day reform plan, which was unveiled last month, describing it as populist and irresponsible. He said the plan was unrealistic because it did not state the source of funds to finance the undertaking.

"We should not be too populist to the extent of pawning the country's future. We should not act that way; it's irresponsible and will cause our children and grandchildren to suffer.

"In fact, it won't take that long; in just two years, according to our estimates, our country will become like Greece if the plan is implemented without regard to the country's means to implement it,"

First, allow me to refer you to my colleague Rafizi's quick response, backed up with numbers and real research.

Beyond that, I do not enjoy rehashing comments already made, so I seek your indulgence in allowing me to repeat comments made last May, which I think are still eminently relevant:

Malaysia risks becoming the next Greece unless voters swallow subsidy cuts that will see the price of petrol, food, electricity and other staples rise, a government minister warned today.

Idris Jala, a minister in the prime minister's department who heads the body advising the government, said that Malaysia's debt would rise to 100 percent of gross domestic product by 2019 from 54 percent of GDP at present without the cuts.

"We don't want to end up as another Greece," he told a roadshow, referring to the European Union member whose debt woes have unsettled global markets.

100% disagree: subsidies is what could make us another Greece.

100% agree: we are on our way to becoming another Greece.

Now, I understand this Idris Jala chap isn't too bad a guy, but what he is saying here is straight out of the BN bullshit spin handbook.

Does anyone believe for a second that the real problem behind Malaysia's economy = too many subsidies?

I'll admit that from an economic point of view, the issue of subsidies are contentious.

Nonetheless, I'm absolutely confident that it is a drop in the ocean compared to what is really destroying and ruining our economy, and truly bringing us close to a Greek scale tragedy: corruption.

Observe Wikipedia:

However, the Greek economy also faces significant problems, including rising unemployment levels, inefficient bureaucracy, tax evasion and corruption.

In 2009, Greece had the EU's second lowest Index of Economic Freedom (after Poland), ranking 81st in the world. The country suffers from high levels of political and economic corruption and low global competitiveness relative to its EU partners.

Oh. Sound familiar?

No need to repeat our litany of RM 500 million submarine commissions, MCA presidents who get fired because of PKFZ investigations, missing jet engines, election bribery. (whoops, just did).

So, YB Idris and YAB Najib, please don't try to mislead the rakyat. Removing subsidies hurts the least protected in society – why don't you remove the corruption that is bleeding the entire nation dry, just so you can line your own pockets.

DAP is a racist government - if you have any doubt watch this video

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 12:12 AM PST

Watch how Ng Weik Ain, ADUN Komtar behaves like a gangster seizing restaurant property just because it is obstructing five foot ways.

Now I know that obstructing five foot ways is an offence, the question is why is he acting only on Indian Muslim restaurant owners and not Chinese hawkers that litter every corner of Penang streets?

you can see from these photos just how they block traffic and make a nuisance of themselves and yet the Chinese DAP Government let them.

Call me a racist if you want but these pictures and video above clearly shows that the DAP govt in Penang acts in a racially motivated ways and gives every advantage to the Chinese while oppressing others

I arrived at a cross-road...

Posted: 10 Jan 2011 12:08 AM PST

AND TOOK A ONE-WEEK HIATUS while digesting the following poem:

Robert Frost (1874–1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.
1. The Road Not Taken
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Today I pondered deep and long on my next article, and it's a toss on the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM(, which inevitably ill concern its founders, Chairman RPK and President Haris Ibrahim

The routing or outing of the Zaid-Soh-Jeffrey triumvirate from PartiKeadilan Rakyat (PKR). But yet a tackling of the second option will still link back to RPK and Haris Ibrahim, so that's what's truly a HOBSON'S CHOICE!

So my dear ER -- which stands for EsteemedReaders here -- can I seek your indulgence while I take a little longer to work on my piece. It is NOT fun nor FUND, buta writer must do as he seeks the truth, otherwise, there is no RAISON DE'TRE (Reason for Being) for my existence/life eh?

Khusrin Ni… Bekerja Untuk Siapa Sebenarnya?

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 09:43 PM PST

Dalam kes Mohamad Khusrin Munawi, dia hendak bekerja dengan kerajaan negeri Selangor: siapakah majikannya?

Free Malaysia Today

Siapa dia Setiausaha Kerajaan (SUK) Negeri?
