HRH Prince Cheah

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 02:41 PM PST

This morning I was at my desk top in the bedroom, tweaking the FirstLife site and Prince Cheah was comfortably under the table snoozing as he usually does.

Being at the table for more than a few hours I accidentally kicked him lightly a couple of times when I stretched my legs. The third time I did that was the last time today! Prince Cheah bit one of my toes! But that was to be expected of Prince these days. He never used to bite anyone before Jeannie passed on.

However, he is still the same measured old dog who can give you two chances before whacking you. The guy is almost human! How else can one explain the actions of a dog who a couple of years back ago took a full two minutes after I had accidentally kicked him particularly hard (under the table too) before attacking me! Prince's responses are always measured; he is even better than many humans.

So today, this photo blog is about Prince Cheah Ah Kow and the words are from Jeannie. One piece entitled, "More Than A Dream" is a blogpost dated 15th November 2006 that Jeannie adapted from the Net for her blog and another, entitled "My Beloved Prince", also from her blog is dated 27th July, 2006. They say it all.

More Than A Dream

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being: by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another human. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself.

He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.

His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to be with me... whenever... wherever -- in case I need him. And I expect I will -- as I always have. I love my Royal Highness.....The Prince.

My Beloved Prince

A bad migraine is no fun.
Was lying in bed and Prince came up to me,
staring right into my eyes.
Something wrong baby? I asked him.
He looked miserable and disappointed.

I was thinking what is it that he wanted?
Oh yes!...Very quickly I got up and said to him.
Its your birthday Prince, with or without a migraine, mummy is going to bake your favourite walnut/banana bread ok?

His tail was wagging and he seemed pleased.

I went down into the kitchen and started to make his birthday bread(cake)hahhaahha!
He was waiting impatiently while I was taking to him. I was also thinking, baking for a dog?
Well, why not? He is our baby and a member of the family.

A lot of things went through my mind while I was still busy with the ingredients. I am a woman who never liked dogs. No way!

The kids have always wanted a pet and I will always say NO! Now 2 years ago, a friend of my daughter wanted to give up her pet and of course, my daughter had to do her sweetest talk with this mom of hers.

I still say NO!

What changed my mind was, when she came to the part where this little Prince is not being well taken care of by his former owners. Guess they have no time or whatever.

My heart skipped a beat and I said to my daughter. Well, okay. Let's go take a look and see if there is any chemistry between us. One big step.............got into the car and still not sure.

When we arrived at the apartment, I saw for the first time a dog that looked more like a cat.
What kind of species is this? I asked.
Oh..he is a Shih Tzu and his name is Prince.
Got introduced to Prince and I was still deciding.
Shall we or shall we not.

As I sat down, I saw the most beautiful, sparkling pair of eyes staring at me.
I could almost hear him say.......would you please? Awwww........that's it. I said YES! We'll take you home and we'll give you a home.

Prince got settled with us nicely and quickly I must say.
Start grooming that dirty fella was the first thing I said to my kids.
Well, mummy gave him his 1st bath.
My 1st time bathing a dog? Geez.....I must be mad.

I set something like ten thousand rules?
No this and no to that and that.

Guess what?
Today Prince sleeps with me on my bed, eats with me, has his own chair next to mine.
Listening to mantras every morning and meditating with me.
Prince is now mine more than anyone else in the family.
We cannot live without each other, not even for a day.
Ever heard of someone calling her dog while away?
I do that now or he will not do anything.
He will be so miserable, they do not know what to do with him.
My phone calls always set his/my mood back to normal.

I thank the Universe and Masters for they have put this message into me.
That you can do anything even if you do not like it...for the 1st time.
Now I cannot see myself living life without my dear Prince.
His presence is always comforting and loving.
I cannot ask for any other than Prince.

We all adore him and literally made him a King.

Happy Birthday Prince.
You deserve many many more birthdays.

Long Live Prince Cheah.

We are grateful to have Prince and even more so to have him make Jeannie's last few years that much more special. The two were inseparable. Special appreciation to Eva and Andrew for taking care of him in his first three years.

Investigate Why Malaysia Has Attained World Ranking in Illicit Outflows

I refer to a report by Washington financial watchdog Global Financial Integrity which found that Malaysia lost US$291 billion or RM889 billion through illicit outflows between 2000-2008.

The report written by GFI economists Karly Curcio and Dev Kar, who is a former senior economist at the International Monetary Fund is deserving of attention from everyone in the country – the Prime Minister to the lowest of our citizenry.

This finding of massive illicit capital outflow for Malaysia is the strongest confirmation of sustained capital flight from the country during the past decade, even if one wants to dispute the definition of "illicit" used. What is especially worrying is that the outflow has tripled in the short period of eight years from 2000-2008

There can be no dispute that a major part of this outflow is due to financial gains accumulated through corruption, kickbacks and other illegal means. How much can be disputed and can only be determined by a thorough investigation such as through the establishment of a Royal Commission to determine the extent and the reasons for the outflow. Without an independent panel or Commission looking into this and having access to banking and other financial data, there will be no end to finger pointing and needless speculation as to who are the parties implicated in these outflows.

No country can afford the outflow that Malaysia is experiencing. It will bankrupt the country, impoverish the general population and lead to social and political instability and chaos.

Should the Government choose to maintain silence on this issue or attempt to spin it in other ways, then it will be a monumental error which will come back to haunt it forever through accelerating the decline - and ultimate downfall - of the country.

Understanding Basic Islamic Principles Course for Non Muslims ~ Introduction

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 09:14 AM PST

Assalamualaikum.
This means ' peace be upon you!'

In the light of what the recent brouhaha raised by one Chua Soi Lek, the current President of the MCA ~ Malaysian Chinese Association has caused by his referring to the unwillingness of former teacher, Normala Sudirman, a Muslim woman candidate for PAS, the Islamic Party of Malaysia to go around shaking the hands of people, not halal for her to do so has inspired me to start this free basic course with regard to the 'Understanding of Islam for Non Muslims'.

I mean you can't totally blame Chua Soi Lek for failing to understand the right and wrong things to expect from a Muslim such as Cikgu Normala, can we?

Chua Soi Lek surely would not know all these things that we Muslims take seriously except for the likes of the Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman whom I heard has sort of insinuated that those who vote for PAS must be ready to see thieves in Johor get their hands chopped off in such an eventuality?

Really?

I can't for the life of me try to figure out just what kind of a Muslim would ever say such a thing?

Did the Johor Menteri Besar really truly say that?

God forbid! That would make the man a bloody hypocrite for the true punishment for purposeful theft by anyone out of greed and not dire necessity in order to survive would truly be the Hadd punishment.

That is what Islamic Syaria calls for?

Anyone who opposes such a law can't be considered a true Muslim and he or she ought to be brought to court and judged accordingly by the Syaria Court.

Until I get hold of a proper report or video recording of the Johor Menteri Besar saying such a thing, I'd reserve my point of views upon such a grievous matter and will in the meantime search for such evidence. Insya Allah!

Those of you who do have such proof, please email them to me at mahaguru58@gmail.com. Thank you.

Now, back to what I had wanted to do. Share basic understanding of Islam with you my readers, both Muslim and those who are not or yet to be?

Islam is the Arabic word for Peace.

Assalamualaikum is the Islamic greeting which we use to greet anyone whom we meet or come across.

Those who receive such a greeting will reply or answer with ' Wa 'alaikum salam' which means ' And upon you be peace (also / too)!'

Now, isn't that the best kind of greeting that one would wish for?

Such is the kind of wellwishes that we who are Muslims are taught to give and receive by our Noble Messenger of Almighty Allah, the Holy Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam.

Contrary to uninformed Western beliefs, Islam isn't a new form of faith or belief.

Islam is the very faith that God Almighty taught our Father, the Prophet Adam Alaihis Salam, the Father of all Mankind.

Islamic faith rests in the bedrock of belief that 'There is no other god but Allahu Ta'ala!'

That's the very essence of our creed. Only One God.

The prophets and messengers of Allah through the ages emphasized and taught their tribes and people of believing in only One True God!

Through the passage of Time, there came to be a total of 124,000 prophets and messengers of God.

Adam was the first prophet. After him came other prophets who continued his message to his progeny.

The authenticity of this figure can be traced back to this authentic hadith:

As for the exact number of prophets the Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam was asked by Abu Dharr Radhiallahu Anhu, "O Messenger of Allah! What was the total number of prophets?" the Prophet Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam replied, "124,000 and from amongst them 315 messengers!"

In Surah An Nisa Chapter 4 Verse 164 in the Holy Al Qur'an, Almighty Allah tells us :

4:164
Transliteration
Warusulan qad qasasnahumAAalayka min qablu warusulan lam naqsushum AAalaykawakallama Allahu moosa takleema
Sahih International
And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related [their stories] to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech.

What does that tell us?

That there are many, many other things that Mankind have yet to learn and discover about our coming into being?

About many other realms of life that we have yet to know of those who lived before us save for what Almighty Allah Chooses to share with us through His countless prophets and messengers?

The Greatest Messenger of Almighty Allah, Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wassallam encapsulates all that Allahu Ta'ala wants us Mankind to follow and put to practice in our lives here on Earth in preparation for our next realm of existence.

We learn from the Holy Prophet the names of 25 of these noble prophets and messengers of Allah who are mentioned by name in the Blessed Al Qur'an Al Kareem.

For those of you amongst the entire Mankind who wish to truly learn about what Islam is and all that it has to offer for those who are willing to strive for such knowledge and understanding, then it takes some effort on your part to gain such wisdom and realizations that sets us apart from all other of Allah's Creation.

For those who want to know, please join me in the next session of Understanding Basic Principles of Islam where I will try not to overwhelm you with info that might just rock your world as you have come to know it and discover things that you might have not been told about this faith that is fast being accepted and claimed as the birthright of all Mankind worldwide!

Despite there being hordes of haters and biased deniers of Allah and His Blessed Messenger spreading their venom online and in the real world, we must also acknowledge the billions of human beings who are at the same time, embracing and accepting that there's just no other God but Allah the Almighty and striving against all odds to live the rest of their lives as true Muslims all over the world!

This Caller to Islam invites you to come learn with me about Islam in as simple and as clear a manner that I can possibly muster and help share with you about our birthright to be Muslims. :) Insya Allah! God Willing!

Not to claim that I have come to know and master everything that there is to know about Islam but just wishing to share with you what I myself have come to learn and am still learning about this wondrous world of peace and salvation that many fail to discover as they journey through their temporal lives here on Earth! This is as a result of either circumstances that prohibits them to learn and put to practice what Almighty Allah wants of us or just plain ignorance on their own part?

If you are willing to learn, this Caller to Islam is willing to share all that I have come to discover to be the Truth and nothing but what He wants us to know?

May Allah bless and guide us all.

Ameen.

See you in the next session.

Wassalamualaikum.

"Allahumma inna nas aluka salamatan fid diin, wal afiyatan fil jasad, waziyadatan fil ilmi, wabarakatan fir rizqi, wataubatan qablal maut, warahmatan indal maut, wamaghfiratan ba'dal maut!"

"O Allah, our God, indeed we appeal to You to protect us in our religion and grant us our physical health, enhance our knowledge and bless us with bounties, give us a chance to repent before we die and bless us while we are about to die and forgive us after we die!"

Ameen. Ya Rabbal Alamin.
Grant us these O Allah, Lord of the Universes.

'Wakil rakyat' nominees must undergo IQ test too!

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 05:38 AM PST

A week before Tenang nomination day (Jan 22), I was talking to blogger Jebat Berkokok about covering the 14th by-election. On the 20th, Merlimau state seat also fell vacant when its assemblyman died, making it (possibly) the 15th by-election in about less than three years.

I told him the government should regulate that all nominees for the general election should undergo a thorough medical test to ensure they are fit to be called State Assemblymen or Members of Parliament.

Of course, our lives are in His hands but we need to ensure our health condition enables us to shoulder such a big responsibility for the rakyat. If we cant attend any meeting or assembly due to health reason, we cannot expedite our duty well to the rakyat who voted for us.

So, when Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said on Saturday that MPs should not only go for annual medical check-ups (here) but should also be trained on stress management, I feel glad. At least, I have similar view.

However, I am of the opinion that the reps should undergo medical test NOT after winning the polls but before contesting. At least, they should get 'a certificate of fitness' to stand in general election of any by-election. Diseases such as diabetes, cancer, leukemia and others should stand as a 'deterrence', depending on its level.

By the way, do you happen to know a rep with epileptic problem? Better find it out yourself!

Anyway, I also did tell Jebat that all potential election candidates should undergo another check-up - IQ test!

Why? Some assemblymen and MPs are only fit to be called 'the dumb and dumber'!

Anwar: Impossible to hide RM208b in illicit outflows

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has called for immediate investigations by the authorities into allegations regarding massive illicit capital outflows from Malaysia. He was referring to Washington-based financial watchdog Global Financial Integrity (GFI) latest report which said that such illicit outflows have more than tripled since 2000 to RM208 billion in 2008. "We urge the finance minister to answer (these allegations) and conduct an all encompassing investigation," said Anwar at a party function in Ampang today. www.malaysiakini.com

CNY Advert - Give Tax Breaks To Multiracial Neighbourhoods:)

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 03:31 AM PST

This advert will be featured in The STAR this coming Friday 28th January 2011. Do spread the message if you agree :)

Have a meaningful
Chinese New Year

"I had been taught at home to be tolerant of others and to respect them." - Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu (1919-2010)

Do it for Unity:

Give tax breaks for multiracial neighbourhoods

Multiracial neighbourhoods are one of the best ways to promote Unity as it nurtures interaction from a young age. It is crucial that our children get to know their brother and sister Malaysians at home, especially as some children are separated in schools.

By living together in community, we will learn about and come to understand each other. When we live side by side, we become familiar with each other's habits and practices. We share each other's food, hear each other's language and observe each other's way of life; our beliefs, our odd behaviours, our sounds, our smells. We learn to appreciate all our different places of worship and religious practices: funerals, prayers, rites of passage, celebrations. We become acquainted with the other's way of being… and in a natural way, acceptance and respect for one another are deeply ingrained.

In multiracial neighbourhoods our children know each other as friends they meet at the playground, before they even know about race. Hanging out in each other's homes becomes a part of everyday life, discussing teachers and school, talking about the latest music and battling on Playstations together. They will laugh and cry together, and through it all they will learn their most important lesson - friends and enemies come from all backgrounds; we love and trust individuals, regardless of race.

With more and more residential communities being built, now is the chance for Malaysians to restructure how we live. We remember Kampung Melayu, Kampung Cina and Kampung India fondly, but moving forward, we need to create Perkampungan Malaysia. Malaysians of all races living in one community - what better way to practice Unity?

Choose to let our children experience the joys of unity in diversity. As a catalyst to create more Perkampungan Malaysia, we propose that the government provide tax breaks for those who live side by side with people of a different race.

At zubedy, our programs draw strength from shared values and traditions. We believe that at heart, all Malaysians want good things for themselves and for their brother and sister Malaysians, simply because our nation cannot prosper as a whole if some of us are left behind.

Let's be first and foremost Malaysian :)

Let us add value,
Have a meaningful Chinese New Year

Couple of Funnies

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 02:22 AM PST

Hmmm...can survive or not ah on RM3,000 a month?

Here are a couple of funnies to round off a good, relaxing Sunday.

The Star today has a story with this headline...

Malaysia wants orang utans abroad to 'come home'

On reading it I laughed out loud and had this scary thought that someone in the ministry of something or other, Malaysia had gotten the whole thing about the brain drain wrong! But it turned out that Plantation Industries and Commodities minister, Bernard Dompok was just keen to assist in the rescue of displaced orang utan. He said there was no reason for the orang utans to suffer in the cold north European climate as there was ample space for orang utans in the forests of Sabah. I guess the YB also didn't want to outdone by this Talent Corp thing.  Bring back Malaysians! Orang apa pun takpe (whatever orang doesn't matter)!

The other funny is also from The Sunday Star. Well this story is funny but the headline is admittedly quite scary also. We are a democracy. Yes? Then how come the deputy prime minister can say something like...

Teachers must support govt of the day

But...but...but...Well, I think what what the DPM  wanted to say was that all teachers must be committed towards helping the Government implement policies to improve the country's education system. You understand that statement? You can read the whole Sunday Star report here and make up your own minds.

Enjoy what's left of your weekend.

Gagged.
Malaysians or Singaporeans?

First, Dr. M said that Malays in Singapore are marginalised. Then some Singapore Malays shot right back and said they were in fact very happy with their lot down there. Then our Ibrahim Ali jumped in and alleged that the comments from Singapore were not really from the Malays there who dare not speak up for fear of ... well whatever. Then today The Malaysian Insider reports that Dr. M says Singapore gags its citizens against criticism of the government anyway. The old warhorse insists that they have freedom of speech in Singapore where you can say what you like, so long as it is approving of the (PAP) government.

I wonder what Singaporeans, Malays or not, really think of this silly argument. Can talk or not about this?

'Anwar most dangerous politician in Asia!' tweets N Gobalakrishnan

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 02:12 AM PST

N Gobalakrishnan
@NgobalakrishnanN Gobalakrishnan
Anwar is the most dangerous Politician in Asia, killed the political will of hardcore supporter MKA who sacrificed everything for him

Well, what can we say except that if you keep company with political wolves, don't come crying that you got bit in your rump!

Hehehe, this tweet here is just so pathetic and doesn't really draw the sympathy that one would expect from one who is infamous for creating a ruckus everytime he took part in the protests and street demonstrations that the party he joined is famous for?

There is just no turning back of the clock here for Mr.N Gobalakrishnan, the PKR MP for Padang Serai after getting into bad blood between himself and the one whom he practically rooted for in the early days of the setting up of the Parti Keadilan 'Rakyat'.

I put the 'Rakyat' in apostrophes because technically the party doesn't represent the entire citizenry of this country per se. Hence the reluctance on my part to acknowledge them as such?

Nevertheless, this interesting turn of events where N Gobalakrishnan hereby vents his dissatisfaction at his party's Special Adviser who in actuality is the De Facto President and Chairman of the PKR just seems so comical and lacks the punch that such a statement would elicit in other circumstances.

Why is this so?

Simple. Remember the story of the boy who cried wolf?

Well, when the villagers eventually found out that the boy was just pulling a stunt on them, they ignored his shouts and screams as the days went by.

When the big bad wolf really turned up and pounced on the boy, no one bothered to respond thinking that he was just pulling a fast one on them again as usual?

Well, the wolf in this case is Anwar Ibrahim according to Gobala and no matter how much he shouts and screams as he is known to, none would bother to listen to his cries and throwing of tantrums.

Gobala has used up whatever political sparklers he once had and his attraction can be said to have fizzled out.

Gunpowder needs to be kept dry and in good form. When one is careless about its storage and allows it to go damp, when one really needs to blow something up, it will just not catch fire and explode.

So, in the case of Gobala tweeting that Anwar is so and so, its just a damper!

The PKR HQ has already issued him a 45 page show cause letter asking why action shouldn't be taken against him for acting detrimental to the party's interest lately?

To date, the news is that Gobala doesn't give a rats ass about such a demand?

He will very likely soon be joining Zulkifli Noordin and the group of 'Independent MP's' pending the coming of the 13th GE.

Its inevitable knowing how things usually work out for PKR MP's who lose their party's support and backup for not toeing the 'Special Advisor's line.

You start questioning the 'Godfather's ways...very soon, his goon squad will be paying you a visit, to hand you your walking papers. Many have gone the way. Seems like Gobala will be heading in the same direction any day now.

I personally don't think that there will be an encore performance of these group of guys who once rocked our Malaysian Parliament ....for all the wrong reasons!

Too bad! All noise and no sparks!

Next!

“Fire brewing in Pakatan Sarawak”

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 01:23 AM PST

Someone, somewhere, somehow must have sold the idea to SNAP that former glory is achievable says a former Emeritus Professor. It was clearly seen that PRS in the Lubok Antu by election used "Sarawak for Sarawakians" which is a strong local propaganda in itself. PKR being a national based party was more or less totality brought to its knees eventhough they had a former 5 term MP as their local candidate.

The propaganda brings in itself a strong attachment and sentimentality that this land Sarawak must only be ruled and taken care by Sarawakians. SNAP through its trials and tribulations is seeking to address a local issue that their dayak leaders in BN component parties are too submissive and have losts their direction in preservation of their land and the ways of governance. This is not a new issue for the dayaks as subconsciously they know that their leaders are promised the highest of the heavens when they are in the BN coalition.

SNAP was in the BN coalition  and they know how the BN operates. Pakatan is not too dissimilar as the coalition too is trying to wrestle power and rule the State in their own way. SNAP knows the local terrain very well unlike their Pakatan partners in PKR,DAP and PAS especially in the dayak majority areas.

They are not only beginning to ruffle a few feathers here and there but ACTUALLY INJECTED A NEW VENOM in the BN circles but also their PKR partner. What they are actually saying,"the battleground is big enough to include SNAP in the picture."

The 71 seats available must be justifiable allocated and divided fairly amongst the coalition partners or else they will be dissatisfaction in the rank and file. BN has also faced this baptism of fire but through the years the jigsaw has been fine tuned to accomodate each BN component party.

There are different opinions and different school of thoughts and we will not know how the people will welcome back a second coming of SNAP. Fans of Liverpool football club welcome with open arms and fresh enthusiasm for the second coming of King Kenny "Kenny Dalgish an irreplaceble icon and Liverpool favourite son"

Football too has its strategies and SNAP as a political party will need to rechart, reinvent and reenergise its machinery to be acceptable in the Pakatan coalition with its new members some of them were parked in PKR to remain relevant to the Sarawak political climate.

The Fire will need to be doused before it engulfs further and negotiations within the ranks needs to be stepped up. The earlier the EGOS are thrown out the better it is for the coalition. BN will obviously love to see a breakup in the Pakatan Sarawak coalition as it will see opposition parties at war with each other.

SNAP is in our midst and BN and Pakatan like everyone else in the political playing fields that we must never ever write our enemies off.

TO DO SO WE DO IT AT OUR OWN PERIL.

Tenang ~ Pilihanraya Kecil ~ Peduli apa jika lautan manusia berkempen disana?

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 12:46 AM PST

Apakah maruah kalian sebegitu murah?

Nanti karang jadi bagaikan 'ayam terlepas ; tangan berbau tahi!'

Menara setinggi 135m bakal jadi mercu tanda baru Langkawi

Hillary Clinton, Najib Razak and Anwar Ibrahim: The Top U.S. Diplomat Comes Around on Malaysia

Posted: 22 Jan 2011 10:00 PM PST

By Rachel Motte (writing for The New Ledger)

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced to reporters on Friday that she had an "excellent meeting" with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin at the State Department. When she told Muhyiddin that Malaysia is "a model nation" that might serve as an example to other developing nations, she underscored a very recent — and revealing — shift in American official perception of that country and its government.

Clinton's last meeting with Malaysian officials late last year, conveyed substantively less enthusiasm for the Southeast Asian nation, at least in the eyes of veteran Malaysia watchers. Although she spoke enthusiastically about the future of U.S.-Malaysia engagement, her carefully choreographed telephone conversation with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim sent a message that America's sympathies were not entirely with the elected government of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

How things have changed in just four months!

Now, the Secretary of State's tone is markedly different — and far more positive toward the Malaysian leadership. She told Muhyiddin that Malaysia stands as an important example to other nations because it is "democratic, effectively governed, and economically sound."

Clinton implicitly acknowledged that Malaysian democracy has come a long way under the current government — and, barring a change in leadership, that it will continue to improve. This, combined with Malaysia's strong financial outlook and its role as a model for Islamic democracy, makes the nation an attractive partner for the United States. Clinton and Muhyiddin went on to discuss the development of a Peace Corps program that would enable Malaysian teachers and schoolchildren to learn English from visiting American students — an initiative Prime Minister Najib suggested to President Obama during their meeting at the ASEAN Summit in New York City last autumn — and agreed that such a program would benefit both nations. They also discussed the signing of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a multilateral free trade agreement which Muhyiddin expects will be completed by the end of the year.

Favorable words from the U.S. Secretary of State can go a long way toward boosting one's political standing in Malaysia. So it is good to see Hillary Clinton finally realizing who are the good guys and the bad guys in Malaysia.

When Anwar Ibrahim was a recipient of favorable rhetoric from Hillary Clinton, his supporters were quick to capitalize on the attention. Though Clinton cancelled a face-to-face meeting with Anwar at the last minute during her Malaysian tour this past autumn, opting instead to speak with him by phone, she stated then that the U.S. would continue to advocate for him with Malaysian officials.

Anwar's amply documented anti-Semitic rhetoric and ties to shady organizations that are linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and have been investigated by US authorities for alleged terror-finance ties to Al Qaeda, made this a truly puzzling admission.

So what happened to change Clinton's mind about him? In a word, the American Secretary of State seems to have now found out just who Anwar is.

Anwar's own statements make it obvious that, were he to become Prime Minister, we should expect him to continue to encourage the resurgent anti-Semitism he has already led in Malaysia for narrow, cynical, and opportunistic reasons. An Anwar-led administration would likely mark the end of Malaysia's relatively stable religious diversity, and the end of Malaysia's status as the "model nation" Clinton praised. In fact the truth is that if Anwar ever came to power, it could create a positively dangerous situation – for Malaysia.

By contrast, American policymakers have found an increasing amount to like in the policies of Prime Minister Najib. His call for a "Global Movement of Moderates" at the US-ASEAN summit in New York City last fall was well received in D.C. Najib's level of public commitment to religious moderation is not always easy to find in the Muslim world, and this puts him in a unique position to benefit both the U.S. and other Muslim-majority nations. As Muhyiddin pointed out,

"Our role is much appreciated because it can help meet our aspirations and theirs… Although Malaysia is a small country, we can see that the message from the Prime Minister (for closer relations) has reached the American administration and this can help in the development of our country."

Anwar, on the other hand, is an Islamist of the most dangerous sort. His long-time involvement with the Muslim Brotherhood through its American front organization, the International Institute of Islamic Thought, the Herndon, Virginia organization that since 2002 has been investigated by the FBI, IRS and US intelligence agencies for alleged financial assistance to Al Qaeda, now gives smart U.S. policymakers increasing pause. So too do his other terror finance ties and his relationship with the radical Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Islamist cleric who was a major voice in the past decade to speak openly in favor of suicide bombing.

Hillary Clinton has now begun to understand the real face of Anwar Ibrahim, and the real ally the world of moderates has in Najib Razak.

Clinton's meeting last week with Muhyiddin and his colleagues signaled a new support for Malaysia's current administration and its policies. It also signified a newfound wariness of Malaysia's opposition leader. This is now crystal clear.

Observers of Malaysia and its relationship with the United States may be heartened that the Secretary of State is turning away from past attempts at even-handedness between two unequal sides — and toward a perception of Malaysia that is refreshingly reality-based.

On Malaysia, Hillary Clinton seems to be coming around, to the truth.

MAYC office sealed as in fighting intensifies

Posted: 22 Jan 2011 10:47 AM PST

The Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) is in a state of flux as one of two feuding factions in the organisation, which is linked to prominent Umno personalities, today sealed the MAYC office at Wisma Belia in Kuala Lumpur. According to Ahmad Ansor Muhd Rivai Batubara, who was elected MAYC secretary-general at an annual general meeting (AGM) on July 31, the action followed fears that the MAYC assets and documents would be "grabbed".
