COMMENT It's incredible that one line in Malay in the Namewee video – You tak baca? Siapa buat Malaysia kaya? – (You didn't read? Who made Malaysia rich?) could cause such uproar among the guardians of Malay pride. Is it a case of "siapa makan cili rasa pedasnya (if the cap fits, wear it). Where were these same guardians of Malay pride when school principal Siti Inshah Mansor abused her Indian and Chinese pupils in outrageous language? There wasn't even a peep out of them. She wasn't accused of racism. In fact, she's even being treated by the Education Ministry with kid gloves despite non-Malay uproar. It wouldn't be surprising if she's kicked upstairs soon as one of those modern-day heroines in Malay celluloid.

Then, there was the later case of a principal up north who advised the Chinese pupils of the school to go back to China since AirAsia flights were now every cheap. This was after they were caught eating at the school canteen by the principal during the fasting hours. They were accused, in some kind of warped logic, of not respecting the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

What their own gnawing hunger has got to do with Ramadan and respect was not explained to the errant students.

Now, there's a real possibility that this Namewee character will be charged soon with sedition. This emerged after police, who don't seem to have better things to do with their time, grilled him for three hours. Sedition, put simply, is the act of stirring up rebellion against the state.

Within any context, a racist can be defined as one who denies others their place in the sun. Déjà vu? If one stands up for his or her place in the sun, without denying others their rights, the question of being racist does not arise.

In Malaysia, the definition of racism is the reverse.

Ibrahim Ali and Mahathir Mohamad of Perkasa routinely twist and turn every issue into a racial issue in order to play to the gallery and force the Malays to circle their wagons under one platform, that is, Umno. They are hailed as great heroes standing up for Malay rights.

Their hidden agenda is to mask the "thievery" that goes on under the guise of development. Government procurements and contracts cost twice, thrice and even up to 10 times what it should cost the taxpayer. So, behind the rhetoric and polemics generated by Ibrahim and Mahathir to pull the wool over the people's eyes, they are in cahoots with their "comrades in crime" who steal the people's sweat from the public treasury.

When Hindraf Makkal Sakthi kicked up a fuss over the continuing marginalisation of the Indian underclass in the country, they were accused of being racists. The New Economic Policy (1970-1990) pledged, among others, that poverty would be eradicated irrespective of race, religion, class and caste.

Elsewhere, when Hindraf pointed out that Article 153 of the Federal Constitution provides for the legitimate aspirations of the non-Malays and non-Natives, they were accused of questioning Malay special privileges. In fact, Article 153 doesn't mention special privileges at all.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim himself, ironically fighting on a platform of change and reform, accused Hindraf of being racists and questioning Malay rights and privileges. He was playing to the gallery, like Umno, to project himself as the great protector of the Malays but at other people's expense.

Hindraf was further accused of stoking racism when it stressed that Article 153 only mentions a reasonable proportion for the Malays and Natives in four specific areas, namely intake into the civil service; intake into government-owned institutions of higher learning and training privileges; government scholarships; and opportunities created by the government to do business.

The implication is that Article 153 is a "sapu bersih" (clean sweep) policy which gives a licence to commit the worst transgressions in the name of race.

Ninety per cent of the staffing strength in the civil service today is Malay, a number which is way above the 60% they represent in the population. When this was pointed out, the Chief Secretary to the federal government explained with a straight face that intake was based purely on merit and that there was no quota system. In short, the Malays and Natives don't need the protection of Article 153 to secure jobs in the civil service.

Again, the NEP pledged that there would be no identification of race with economic function and place of residence.

It's like a "heads I win, tails you lose" kind of policy in government. This means certain people are always on the winning side while others are forced to be born losers all the time through no fault of their own. This is not racism, according to the perpetrators.

On the other side of the South China Sea, there has been no Borneonisation of the federal civil service as pledged by the Malaysia Agreement. Almost all the top jobs are held by Malay civil servants from Peninsular Malaysia in the fashion of the British colonialists.

The federal government is also not being shared equally by Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

In politics, the local proxies of the ruling elite in Putrajaya are used to prevent the majority community – Dayak in Sarawak and the KadazanDusunMurut in Sabah – from heading the state administrations or being appointed as governors or ambassadors.

At the board level in Petronas, and its numerous subsidiaries, there's not even one person from Sabah or Sarawak. When queried recently in Parliament, the reply from the federal government is that race is not used by Petronas as a criterion in appointments to the board. If that's the case, why is that all Petronas board members, and subsidiaries, are from the same community? Not racism!

Nah! All Eyez on Namewee

The Malaysian Insider - Namewee grilled by Internet regulators.

Wee Weng Chee, better known as Namewee, a Malaysian socio-political rapper with the usual rappers' proclivity for using effing words in their work, posted a video clip rapping the knuckles (excuse the deliberate pun) of Siti Inshah Mansor, (supposedly) a principal of a school and those of another alleged bigot in Kedah from the same, once noble, profession.

The rapper's rhythmic chant lambasted the teachers for their unwarranted, unmitigated and unacceptable racist diatribes against their young innocent charges.

Nah! Suck on this - one of the alleged racists, Siti Inshah, has been openly treated with kid gloves by the authorities (including the DPM and the Education Director General) while her critic, Namewee, has since been hauled over the coals by both police and the media watchdog, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), for daring to post a video clip criticising her.

Those who had been conspicuously silent on the racist spew of the principals suddenly woke up to join in the angry chorus against Wee - the PAS MB of Kedah and the usual suspects in miscellaneous UMNO bodies, etc.

The PM made a half hearted statement against racist slurs (presumably about the two principals but on this I've to say we weren't/can't be sure at all) but came out remarkably energised against Namewee.

Leng chai Khairy, who has in recent times been attempting to present himself as a 'liberal' lamentably jumped on the anti-Namewee bandwagon. Lim Kit Siang sent leng chai's justification for doing so bouncing off like the Michelen Man.

Wee was also resoundingly disowned by MCA – well, he's lucky MCA information chief, Loh Seng Kok didn't call for the stripping of his citizenship – for more of Loh's recent fascination with citizenship, see Overcompensating publicly for personal trials & tribulations.

Nah! We shouldn't be surprised at the authority's double standard treatment of the villains and their critic as this is after all Malaysia where our national slogan has been and presumably still is Malaysia Boleh (Malaysia can or Malaysians can do) ...

... where alas, in this and many other cases, the inspiring slogan has now become a stigma instead, meaning the Malaysian authority and/or some public bodies would do the illogical, illegal, unjust, unfair and all that's representative of the dark side of the Force.

According to The Malaysian Insider, Wee was asked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia's media watchdog, to go to its headquarters to give a statement on the video clip.

Malaysiakini reminded us that this was the second time this week that Wee has been questioned over the video, having spent three hours with the police on the night of Merdeka Day, giving his statement at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station.

The Malaysia Boleh spirit was evidently in abundance during the taking of a 'brief statement' at MCMC. I shall point out two examples, namely:

Firstly, the so-called 'brief statement' at MCMC took more than seven hours, yes, an amazing marathon-ish SEVEN hours, on a video clip which didn't last for even 3 minutes. There were also four police officers there, perhaps to catch what they might have missed in an earlier 3-hour session on Merdeka Day.

More than SEVEN hours! Was the MCMC attempting to outdo Leo Tolstoy, by writing the Boleh equivalent of War & Peace?

It's a bloody miracle Namewee didn't jump out of a 14th floor from some building. After more than seven hours of interrogation I would!

Incidentally, Tolstoy's War & Peace has been recognized as one of the greatest work of fiction - it would not be surprising in the nature of our Boleh spirit to outdo Tolstoy wakakaka.

Secondly, leaving aside the authority's kid gloves treatment of the two unbelievable and unspeakable school principals, have we seen mainstream media like Utusan and its other UMNO-linked media been similarly interrogated for their constant flow of bigoted seditious and inciting bile?

Nah, 'twas only a rhetorical question!

I put the top down, now it's time to floss my shit
Keep your head up kawan, make these motherfuckers suffer [...]

I live the life as a rapper, kawan, until the day I die
Live the life as a boss playa {All Eyez On Me}

Realmild ‘truth’ is out,ANWAR IBRAHIM’S MISSION IS TO UNDO UMNO INJUSTICE

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 11:47 AM PDT

: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is relieved that yesterday's disclosure of the facts behind the shares deal in Realmild (M) Sdn Bhd, in the Kuala Lumpur High Court, has confirmed his 1999 testimony to be true.

He said the revelation by former chairman of the Penang Malay Chambers of Commerce, Abdul Rahman Maidin, that 70% of the shares were in former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's name proves that he (Anwar) had no self-interest in the company.

Blogging his comments last night, Anwar said: "All this while Umno has been fabricating lies alleging that I had an interest and through it (Realmild) controlled Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB).

"In my 1999 testimony at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, I confirmed that the biggest shareholder in Realmild was Mahathir himself, who held 70% of the shares. I had no interest in the company.

"Only after this disclosure was made did Mahathir ask Abdul Rahman to takeover the shares and only at that point was it revealed that Umno owned the shares.

"Abdul Rahman's testimony yesterday reaffirms my earlier confession (on the issue)" wrote the former deputy prime minister who is presently the PKR chief.

Anwar was commenting on Abdul Rahman's testimony in a RM10 million commercial crime case filed against him by a former Realmild director Khalid Ahmad.

Realmild is the biggest shareholder in MRCB and Abdul Rahman was once its chief executive officer.

During the proceedings in the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday, Abdul Rahman confessed to being shocked to discover that the Realmild shares he was holding on to was in fact Umno's.

As a result of this, Abdul Rahman said he had lost RM40 million when the 7.101 million Realmild shares which he bought from Khalid was owned by Umno.

"When I tookover the Realmild shares, it was based on corporate and commercial perspective.

"I looked for the funds to secure the shares and did so through my own financial ability and without assistance from any political entity," Abdul Rahmad had reportedly said in response to a question in the court.

ANWAR IBRAHIM'S MISSION IS TO UNDO UMNO INJUSTICE

CAN THEY STOP HIM ?

After weeks of blood-letting, Pakatan Rakyat (PR) switched to damage control today and claimed an end to hostilities in the Kedah and Penang state coalitions.

HE HAS READ THE ANGER OF THE PEOPLE, AND I WISH TO ADVISE NAJIB, HE SHOULD STEP DOWN HONOURABLY, BEFORE THE PEOPLE GET UP TO OPPOSE HIM AND FORCE HIM TO STEP DOWN IN DISGRACE.

19:15

AND I PRAY TO ALLAH, THAT THE PEOPLE WILL CARRY ON MAKING A STAND, WHETHER IT BE MALAY, CHINESE, INDIAN, IBAN, KADAZAN, MURUT, ALL, MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THE TIME FOR CHANGE IS NOW.

19:32

WE MUST ACT NOW, BEFORE WE ARE RULED BY THOSE WHO DISGUISE THEMSELVES AS OUR LEADERS. WASSALAMUALAIKUM WARAMAHTULLAHI WABARAKATUH.

19:50

THE REASON WHY THEY ARE AFRAID OF ME IS BECAUSE I KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT THEIR SECRETS.

19:56

I KNOW THAT A COUPLE OF BILLION RINGGIT BELONGING TO UMNO THAT'S BEEN POCKETED FOR THE INTERESTS OF A SMALL NUMBER OF PEOPLE.

20:05

20:06

I KNOW THAT A LOT OF MONEY – ABOUT A BILLION – IN OCTOBER, WAS TAKEN OUT FROM OUR COUNTRY TO A BANK ACCOUNT IN ZURICH.

20:18

I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO DR MAHATHIR, HOPING THAT HE IS A LEADER WHO'S CAN BE TRUSTED, UNFORTUNATELY HE KEPT THE INFORMATION, AND I CANNOT DENY THAT THERE IS A SECRET PACT AMONG HIM AND SOME OF THESE PEOPLE.

20:32

20:33

I KNOW THE SECRET OF HOW A NUMBER OF PROJECTS WAS USED TO BENEFIT A NUMBER OF FRIENDS AND RELATIVES OF THE PM.

20:39

THEY ARE AFRAID OF THIS FACT, BUT I HAVE TOLD HIM, THAT IN THE BEGINNING THAT I DIDN'T INTEND TO OPPOSE DR. MAHATHIR FOR THE LEADERSHIP OF THE PARTY AND THE GOVERNMENT.

20:51

HOPING THAT HE WILL RETIRE HONOURABLY, AND WHEN WE TAKE OVER WE WILL CARRY ON WORKING ON WHAT'S GOOD, WITHOUT BRINGING OUT HIS DIRTY LAUNDRY. BUT HE DIDN'T GIVE ME A CHOICE. HE HAS INSULTED ME, INSULTED THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS, RIDICULED THE RULE OF RELIGION, AS IF HE WAS ALL-POWERFUL.

21:14

AND HE'S SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO COURAGE WHATSOEVER TO SAY ANYTHING

AGAINST HIM.

21:19

HE LIVES IN A DREAM WORLD. HE DOESN'T COME DOWN TO EARTH. HE THINKS HE'S THE MOST POPULAR PRIME MINISTER IN THE WORLD.

21:30

AND HE THINKS HE IS ABLE TO DO WHATEVER ACCORDING HIS DESIRES, AND HE HAS MADE MAJOR MISTAKES BECAUSE HE HAS ACTED IN A CRUEL MANNER, AND WE PRAY THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE CRUEL, GOD WILLING WILL BE RETRIBUTED BY GOD HIMSELF.

21:48

21:57

WE HAVE TRIED TO ADVISE, JUST LIKE A CHILD TO THE FATHER, I CANNOT DENY THAT I HAVE LOVE FOR DR. MAHATHIR, AS A FATHER, WHETHER HE'S SICK, FEVER, TIRED, I TRY TO FIND OUT. I DIDN'T EXPECT AT ALL THAT HE WOULD HAVE ACTED IN SUCH A CRUEL AND ALMOST INSANE WAY, BY DOING ALL THAT HE HAS DONE TO ME.

22:17

JUST BECAUSE HE IS AFRAID, THAT I KNOW TOO MUCH AND HIS SECRET BECAUSE IT IS TOO MUCH, MAY BE EXPOSED.

22:24

THEREFORE HIS WAY AND HIS CHOICE WAS TO KILL MY POLITICAL CAREER, SO THAT I CANNOT STAND AGAIN.

22:30

IN GENERAL, EVERYONE KNOWS MY FEELINGS ABOUT BAKUN. WE WILL NOT BE AGAINST THE

PROJECT IF IT WERE DONE IN THE CORRECT WAY, AND NOT TO MAINTAIN THE INTERESTS OF HIS CRONIES.

22:45

IN FACT, IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SEPANG AIRPORT, THERE WAS TOO MUCH INTEREST FOR HIS FAMILY, HIS CHILDREN, AND WE TRIED TO AVOID, UNTIL HE GOT ANGRY WITH US.

23:00

IN THE CASE BETWEEN PETRONAS AND MIC, MISC AS WELL, INVOLVES HIS SON MIRZAN MAHATHIR, WE ADVISED HIM, TO FOLLOW PROCEDURE, I AND PETRONAS REQUESTED TO USED INTERNATIONAL VALUERS, BUT HE GOT ANGRY WITH US, BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HIGHER, BUT THE PRICE INVOLVED 2 BILLION OF THE PEOPLE'S MONEY, SO WE HAD TO FOLLOW THE CORRECT WAY, BUT HE WASN'T SATISFIED.

23:31

SAME THING WITH THE FACILITIES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF PUTRAJAYA.

BECAUSE HE LIVES IN WHAT I CALL DELUSION A GRANDEUR (??) MUST BE THE TALLEST, THE BEST, THE BIGGEST, INCLUDING HIS OFFICIAL PALACE, HE WANTED THE BEST AND THE MOST LOVELY IN THE WORLD.

23:48

THERE ARE SOME WHO SAY I APPROVE. I SAY HERE THAT I DON'T APPROVE OF THE BUILDING OF HIS HOUSE.

23:54

THAT IS DONE BY A COMPANY CALLED PUTRAJAYA HOLDING, AND BECAUSE OF THAT THEY ARE GETTING DIRECT ORDERS, I DIDN'T SIGN ANY LETTERS WHATEVER, APPROVING A PALACE THAT'S HUGE AND FOR A PRIME MINISTER WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN A DREAM WORLD.

24:16

BEFORE THIS HE CRITICISED THE KINGS. WASTAGE. HE ASKED FOR LAWS TO BE CHANGED. WE APPROVE, WE THOUGHT LAWS WOULD BE CHANGED TO BRING THE POWER BACK TO THE PEOPLE.

24:28

LOOKS LIKE, THE POWER OF THE ROYALTY HAS BEEN REDUCED, IN WAYS THAT ARE SOMETIMES SEEN AS INSULTING, THERE IS NO REASON TO DO IT IN SUCH A WAY, BUT WHAT'S HAPPENED IS THE POWER FROM THE ROYALTY, HAS BEEN PLACED UPON HIS HEAD.

24:44

SO IN THE END HE HAS BECOME THE PRIME MINISTER, AND KING, AND DEITY, AND EVERYTHING. AND THIS HAS BECOME HIS OWN ENEMY, AND DESTROYED HIS IMAGE.

AND BECAUSE OF THAT I DIDN'T APPROVE OF THE HOUSE FOR THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER IN PUTRAJAYA, BECAUSE THE FIRST PROJECT, AT A COST OF 70 MILLION, WAS REDUCED TO 40 MILLION, BROUGHT DOWN SOME MORE, BUT I SAID TO AZIZAH, DIFFICULT FOR US TO APPROVE IT NOW.

IN THESE ECONOMIC CONDITIONS, IT'S OKAY IF WE LIVE IN A LESS EXTRAVAGANT HOUSE. BUT DATO SERI DR MAHATHIR MOHAMAD, DIDN'T THINK SO. EVERYTHING WAS IMPORTED, FROM FRANCE, THE INTERIOR FURNISHING THAT IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD. EVERYTHING FIRST CLASS, THE BEST AND MOST WONDERFUL.

WE SHOULD KNOW OUR LIMITS, HE ISN'T VERY YOUNG, HOW TO CARRY ON WITH POWER, TRYING TO REACH THE SKY, AND USING VIOLENCE AND OPPRESSION, USE PEOPLE LIKE HE DOES, USE THE POLICE LIKE THE GESTAPO, BEAT, ABUSE, IN A MOST SHAMEFUL MANNER.

26:00

IN FACT, THE COURT PROCEEDINGS, THE WAY A SESSION WAS EXTRAORDINARILY FAST AND EFFICIENT, NOT LISTENING TO THE PLEAS OF THE LAWYERS.WHAT WE HAVE OFTEN HEARD, THE PEOPLE MUST SACRIFICE…BUT WHAT KIND OF SACRIFICE MUST WE MAKE TO PROVIDE THE HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF RINGGIT? WHAT WE OFTEN HEAR IS THAT OUR COUNTRY IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY…THAT MEANS THE PEOPLE MUST CARRY THE RESPONSIBILITY…BUT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO CARRY OUT JUSTICE, ADMINISTRATION ACCORDING TO LAWS, THEMSELVES CANNOT BE DONE WELL.

26:47

I FEEL THAT ITS PARTLY MY FAULT, BECAUSE TRIED TO BRING CHANGE SLOWLY FROM WITHIN, THROUGH PERSUASION AND PATIENCE, AND FOR THAT I APOLOGIZE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH I'VE GOTTEN RID OF POVERTY, BUILT UP LOW-COST HOUSES, DEFENDED DEMOCRACY FOR THE PEOPLE, AND BRING ACROSS GOOD ISLAMIC TEACHINGS, RESPECT THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS, LOOKS LIKE I'VE BEEN PUSHED ASIDE. BUT BECAUSE I HAVE OBSTINATELY DEFENDED THESE PRINCIPLES, I WILL BE SHAMED, AND MANY TIMES OVER CHARGES WILL BE BROUGHT AGAINST ME, AND THE MEDIA WILL BE USED TO INSULT ME. WHAT'S MY SIN? MY SIN WAS BECAUSE I WANTED TO PROTECT TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE..BUT NAJIB IS EVEN MORE DESPERATE

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 07:26 AM PDT

Eyes on blogs

OUCH! Beware bloggers and news portals. Home Ministry is setting up a special committee to monitor what you write. Anything to do with racism and other 'harmful' posting and articles, you will walk to jail for free.

Looks like the Internet is causing big problems, not only to Malaysia but in other countries. Since we are multi-racial and multi-religious, such postings and stories inciting racial unrest have gone beyond control. U-Tube, for instance is most popular in displaying such unwanted videos.

Home ministry deputy secretary general for security Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi said the unit would involve the police, Internet regulators, the information ministry and the attorney general's chambers.

"It is a mechanism that will coordinate these various agencies to help monitor what is being said in cyberspace and to take action against those that are trying to stoke racial tensions and disunity," he told AFP here.

Abdul Rahim said the group would also monitor alternative and mainstream media for similar content.

Fair, dont you think so?

Ampun Tuanku, patek menjunjung kasih.

Ampun Tuanku, patek menjunjung kasih.

KJ: Kenyataan Kit Siang gila, tak masuk akal

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 03:23 AM PDT

Ketua Pemuda Umno Khairy Jamaluddin berkata, kenyataan tokoh popular DAP Lim Kit Siang yang mempertahankan penyanyi rap Namewee, sekaligus menyalahkannya kembali sebagai gila dan tidak masuk akal. "Saya tergaman seketika (dengar kenyataannya).

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 03:53 AM PDT

NOTA EDITOR: Dalam sebuk-sebuk UMNO menuduh kerajaan Penang menindas peniaga Melayu, rupanya UMNO sendiri menindas peniaga Melayu di Kuala Lumpur

Bazar Ramadhan: Di mana media Umno?
Dzulfikar Mashoor

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 Sept: Naib Presiden PAS, Datuk Mahfuz Omar mempersoal langkah berdiam diri media-media arus berhubung protes peniaga kecil Melayu di ibu negara.

Kelmarin, Yang Dipertua PPPKM, Bahrim A. Razak dilaporkan mendakwa sebanyak 109 tapak perniagaan sepatutnya diperuntukan pada peniaga-peniaga Melayu.

Apple's iPad vs Samsung's Galaxy Tab.

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 03:46 AM PDT

Samsung Electronics Co unveiled a new tablet PC named Galaxy Tab as the latest device meant to rival Apple Inc's popular iPad.

The device offers users "a new galaxy of possibilities" with features such as mobile video conferencing and a video chat function, Samsung Europe telecom executive Thomas Richter said at Berlin's IFA consumer electronics fair.

The thin tablet device weighs 13.4oz (380g) and has a 7in (18cm) touchscreen, making it about three times that of an Apple iPhone, but roughly a third smaller than an iPad.

Richter said it comes with Google Inc's Android 2.2 operating system, which can run HTML5 and Adobe's Flash Player - unlike the iPad.

The Galaxy will allow users to browse the Web and check e-mail just as on a regular PC, Richter said.

"The Samsung Galaxy Tab has been designed to enable consumers to maximise their online experience wherever that may be," the head of Samsung's mobile communications business, J.K. Shin, said.

The price of the device will depend on telecommunications operators through which it will be available starting next month in Europe and later in fall in the United States and Asia, Samsung said.

The device supports Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G cellphone networks, making it a combination of smartphone and laptop. It "turns out to be a perfect speakerphone on the desk, or a mobile phone on the move via Bluetooth headset," Samsung said.

The Tablet PC also comes with two cameras, one 3-megabyte digital camera with a flash on the back of the device, and a second camera on the front for video conferences - a feature the iPad lacks, but other competitors such as Dell's Streak Tablet PC also offers.

The company said that the device's battery would support more than eight hours of continuous multimedia usage, or seven hours of video play.

The tablet also comes with Swype, a third-party application already found on Samsung's Galaxy 5 series phone and available for some other Android-based handsets, which allows users to type on virtual keyboards by simply swiping fingers around from one letter to the next, lifting only between words.

The application then uses an algorithm to determine the word that is intended, which the company says allows for typing speeds of more than 40 words per minute.

Commercial success of the device will be crucial for the world's largest maker of computer memory chips, flatscreen TVs and liquid-crystal displays.

Samsung's quarterly profit surged by 83% to a record high of 4.28 trillion South Korean won (RM11.5bil) in the second quarter ended June 30, but the company warned that intensifying competition in areas like mobile phones could dent earnings in coming quarters.

Samsung is the world's second largest cellphone manufacturer after Nokia.

Rakyat Malaysia Sudah Bosan Dengan Media Milik UMNO

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 03:43 AM PDT

Trust the mainstream media, urges Najib
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani
September 02, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak told the public tonight to trust the mainstream media and not the alternative media which are based on half truths.

The Prime Minister said that mainstream media should be considered as an authoritative news source that can be trusted.

"In the development of the media today, the market is different from the market in previous years. Now we are faced with the alternative media which has been a direct competition to mainstream media like NST.

"However, the mainstream media has one strength which cannot be found in the alternative media and that is the mainstream media can be considered as fact based," Najib (picture) said when attending breaking of fast with the media at The New Straits Times Press headquarters here.

He said that the mainstream media is different from alternative media because the former is fact based while the later is opinionated.

"If we read the mainstream media, intuitively we regard it as an authoritative report where its facts cannot be questioned.

"Its principles are based on facts and this is different from blogs and websites which can be developed for personal use and can literally become a one-man show," he said.

He added that alternative media published reports based on opinions which are "half truths and not accurate".

Recently a poll by the Merdeka Center showed that six out of 10 Malaysians don't trust the mainstream media.

The June 27 to July 25 survey commissioned by a research organisation showed that 57 per cent of Malays polled said they did not trust reports in the mainstream media, while 33 per cent trusted the media and 10 per cent said they did not know.

As for the Chinese community, 58 per cent said they did not trust the mainstream media, 30 per cent trusted and 12 per cent did not know.

A total 590 Chinese and 413 Malays as well as five focus group discussions with Chinese voters in Peninsula Malaysia were involved in the survey.

The findings will provide sober reading for many mainstream media organisations. Recent circulation figures show that English and Malay-language newspapers like New Straits Times, The Star, Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia have all suffered significant drop in circulation this year compared to 2009, with some as severe as 20 per cent.

Privately, newspaper executives note that partisan political coverage has hurt sales.

Comments from the focus group discussions also showed that many felt that there is limited media freedom in the country because of the practice of censorship.

Some participants in the focus groups also pointed out that Malay-language newspapers were the most biased.

Najib stressed that the public must be able to differentiate between mainstream and alternative media reporting.

"The public must be discerning and can differentiate between the strength of the mainstream media, which has a place in the era of ICT and access to website and blogs which are opinion based.

"I urge the mainstream media to continue to hold its principle as a paper based on factual based reporting with opinion which are constructive and educated," he said.

Press statement by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek on fake Facebook accounts

It is regrettable to see that some unscrupulous persons have abused social networking media like Facebook to create fake accounts of politicians and public figures to spread lies and rumours.

Not only were Prime Minister Dato' Sri Haji Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Minister in the Prime Minister Department Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Tan Sri Dato' Hj Hassan passed off by unscrupulous people, I too am also a victim of fake Facebook accounts.

For the record, I had only one Facebook account and I have stopped managing it as well as have shut it down after it was hacked by hackers.

However, there are still at least 4 fake/unofficial Facebook accounts created under my name. I wish to clarify that I have not created nor authorized anyone to manage a new Facebook account and that an official announcement will be made should I have created a new account for myself.

Members of the public must be more cautious when they are invited to "like" or "add" any public figures so that they will not be manipulated or fooled by these unscrupulous people.

I condemn such an act to spread lies and rumors and welcome the authorities to act against the creators of fake or unofficial Facebook accounts with malicious intent.

Apa jadi Dengan Kuarters Exco Selangor??

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 12:47 AM PDT

Assalamu`alaikum..

WAK JENGKOL:PAS Mula Bimbang dah..

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 12:37 AM PDT

Memang tak sia-sia apabila diberikan gelaran "Mr Bean PAS".

Kenapa?

Hentam saja lah Mahfuz asal elaun tiap-tiap bulan masuk..Layanzzzz

The 1Malaysia that I still remember

Posted: 03 Sep 2010 04:51 AM PDT

From Lawrence Sii, via e-mail

I always believe the golden words "your best friend can be your worst enemy" because in this materialistic world, money can buy one's soul, integrity and honesty!

So, Selangor's MB office being installed with spycam is not surprising to me. Remember the ex-health minister's incident? Just a repeated orchestra! So, politicians please watch-out!

As for the guidelines for non-Muslims and Muslims gathering in the mosque, it has already laid down by the Almighty centuries ago.

Why do human beings, the children of God still want to argue on the subject with different interpretations?

All the silly statements on the matter are nothing but a show of human weaknesses and greed for authority and power.

I remember when I was young, I was always looking forward to festivals like Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas where I could visit my friends in my nice cloths and enjoy happy moments with them.

I still remember that I was always the earliest one to arrive my childhood friend Mustapha's house where his parents had just completed dressing-up for the festive.

Mustapha would always ask for forgiveness from his parents and I did exactly the same. His parents treated me like one of their own

When I reminisce on those moments, my eyes well-up with tears. That was 40 years ago. Do we, Malaysians still enjoying such lovely moments like I had nowadays?

Till today, when I go back to my kampung (I'm going back during this Hari Raya though the journey will take me six hours by road), I always meet up with my buddies.

They of 1Malaysia stock, composing of Ibans, Malays, Chinese, etc and we gather together in traditional coffee shops for breakfast or tea break.

We can order and have halal and non-halal food from those food stores under one coffee shop and enjoy our food together at one table.

We respect each other unconditionally, like our own brothers and sisters. That's 1Malaysia.

What’s sauce for the goose is not necessarily sauce for the gander

From Wyoming, via e-mail

I refer to the e-mail from 'A Malaysian' which was a response to an earlier e-mail on racism. His arguments are in the main specious but I'll only comment on one in particular.

The statement on Mandarin: "Most Chinese in Malaysia are familiar with this language since it's their mother tongue but not so for the rest of Malaysians, especially the Malays and Indians."

The truth is, a very large proportion of ethnic Chinese in Malaysia, especially those who did not go to a Chinese medium school, do not speak Mandarin but only their own dialect.

This group will have to compete with the likes of you if spoken Mandarin is specified. If you don't make the cut, hard luck.

Conversely, I have come across a sizeable number of the indigneous population here in Sabah who speak Mandarin as they have been to a Chinese medium school.

It appears to me, if there is racism in Malaysia it is confined to Malaya and is applicable to all racial groups there.

Please keep it to yourself and don't spread the disease to Sabah and Sarawak. Malaya is only 40 percent of Malaysian territory! Something specific to Malaya is not necessarily Malaysian.
