Constantinople—New York City of Ancient Times

Constantinople—New York City of Ancient Times

Constantinople—New York City of Ancient Times

Within the city wallsIt was dedicated, in 360 AD, to the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. It is said to have changed the history of architecture. Destroyed twice and then rebuilt a third time into an awe-inspiring cathedral.

I am, of course, talking about Hagia Sophia or more accurately the "Church of the Holy Wisdom of God". Jesus Christ being the Holy Wisdom of God (according to Eastern Orthodox theology).

This cathedral, in its present shape, stood as the cathedral of Constantinople from 537 AD to 1453 AD. It was the seat of the Orthodox patriarch of Constantinople and also a place for Byzantine imperial ceremonies—it also offered asylum to wrongdoers.

Outside the city wallsA power hungry Arab in Medina roused a band of blood thirsty warmongering Arabs to murder, rape and pillage in the name of an ancient pagan god. The belief system that he created revolved around fear, pride and revenge. They laid siege to cities and towns alike—either converted, subjugated or murdered the inhabitants. On their conquest of blood and booty, they suffered few losses. One of the losses was at the hands of the Byzantine army at "the Battle of Muta" in 629 AD (a battle initiated by the Arabs).

Fast forward to 674, a mere 45 years after their defeat, the Arabs had amassed an army big enough to attack the capital of one of the strongest empires at the time. The empire was Byzantine and the capital city was Constantinople, the seat of Christendom at the time. The city and the people within proved too strong to be broken and Arabs were faced with another humiliating defeat.

After the Arabs converted to Islam the surrounding Turks, another band of warmongers, the Turks decided it was their duty to avenge the defeat of 629 AD. After over 12 attacks and siege attempts from both Arabs and Turks over a period of over 700 years the city fell to the Turks.

Sultan Mehmet II "the Conqueror", the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, entered the city on May 29, 1453 and declared it the new capital of the Ottoman Empire. Hours after the city fell, Sultan rode on his horse to "the seat of the Orthodox patriarch of Constantinople and a place for Byzantine imperial ceremonies" and summoned an imam to proclaim the Islamic creed converting the cathedral, that had stood for over a 1000 years as a symbol of a Christian empire, into a mosque. That was what completed the victory of Islam over the Byzantine Empire. The conversion of the cathedral into a mosque symbolized the fall and subjugation of a once-awesome Christian kingdom.

This practice in Islam, conversion of non Muslim places of worship into mosques, was not a misguided step taken by Muslims after their bloodthirsty leader died. It was a practice instituted by their leader Mohammed when he conquered Mecca and converted the pagan house of worship, the Kaaba, into a mosque.

The symbolism of mosques in non Muslim lands is significant. It tells the surrounding people that Islam is victorious and not only that but everyday, five times a day (at least), it tells Muslims and non Muslims alike to come and worship Allah. The call to prayer, the adhan, says "Allah is great(greater, to be more accurate), I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, I bear witness that Mohammed is the prophet of Allah…" That is a call to worship Allah, the warmongering god of Islam. "Allah is greater" or "Allah-u-akbar" also happens to be the war cry of Muslims when they're descending upon infidels to kill them or be killed.

Something for us infidels, especially those in New York, to think about.

(A lot of information taken from wikipedia and also personal experience).

I work for the rights for the dead

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 12:10 PM PDT

My letter to Malaysiakini titled I work for the rights for the dead was published yesterday. I am sharing it with you here as well as over at my other blog KTemoc Komposes.

You see only a very dead man
Just a clammy lifeless corpse
Perhaps decomposing badly
To return home to Mother Nature

But I see in him a devoted son,
A dear brother, loving husband
We're definitely different, 'coz
I work for the rights of the dead

You claim he had given all up
Absconding from his life duties
Now lying on a cold marble slab
Body broken up in your eyes

But his scars confides to me
He went not of his own volition
His sad face tells me a story, 'coz
I work for the rights of the dead

You avoid touching his cold hands
And cringe at the sight of him
A gruesome inconvenience for you
Just another statistic to file away

However I sense a glow still in him
The love of a man, the joyful pride
Of a father to be, I know these 'coz
I work for the rights of the dead

His opaque glassy eyes terrify you
You look over your shoulders
At midnight you cower in groups
Fearing the ghost from your guilt

I feel his body and he whispers
To me pleas to tell the whole truth
Of his life stolen away, I will 'coz
I work for the rights of the dead

MAS losses are small compared to....

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 11:27 AM PDT

I was told several scary story after Iftar today and immediately felt ill...

According to a fellow blogger, the losses at Malaysia Airlines are small compared to Syarikat Penerbangan Malaysia which was born as a result of BinaFikir's scheme for Wide Asset Unbundling (WAU) which saw MAS divesting all airplanes to SPM.

Now the planes are old, many are nearly two decades old, some are past the 20-year mark and just like older cars, they cost more to maintain.

With MAS trimming fat on a mega diet, they are using fewer planes and as a result they are not paying as much to SPM as they originally planned...

planes are expensive, costing hundreds of millions each and now they lie dormant somewhere....I remember during the 1998 Asian Financial Raid by George Soros and gang, MAS parked their planes behind a very tall hoarding at the Subang cargo /maintenance complex

Strangely MAS is buying planes directly now....hmmm apa cerita plan asal??

Then there is a story about a multiracial Malaysian bank that has so much exposure to derivative trading that even if I put the number here you would snort into your tea and still not believe me....the figure is huge.....

If it all turns sour then it may make all the past bail out put together look like small change.....

What about the story of a budget airline strapped for cash somehow getting the Government to guarantee it's aircraft financing... they ordered a huge fleet from European manufacturer Airbus in the last few years

I am sure bloggers with far more understanding in banking and finance will explain the stories better but I just needed to let it out, otherwise I cannot sleep tonight

Kematian Teoh Bukan Bunuh Diri

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 09:36 AM PDT

4.0 Dr Pornthip membuat kesimpulan kematian TEoh bukan bunuh diri.

Teoh inquest: Dr Pornthip maintains not suicide (Live Updates)
By WANI MUTHIAH

11.42am: Abdul Razak insisted Dr Pornthip's testimony was merely her imagination without evidence. To which Dr Pornthip retorted: "I have a question whether you are a lawyer or not."

Earlier, Abdul Razak appeared to be confused with Dr Pornthip's testimony and coroner Azmil Muntapha had to explain it to him at one juncture.

11.38am: Important to examine documents left behind, especially when investigating suicide: Dr Pornthip

11.18am: When Abdul Razak asked that if she had to be fair and not take sides as an expert witness, Dr Pornthip said: "You have to understand I work for the rights of the dead and not for Malaysia and Selangor.

11.05am: Dr Pornthip also told Dr Abdul Razak not to look down on Asian experts.

11am: Abdul Razak attacked Dr Pornthip's qualifications, saying that Mahidol University in Thailand, from where she graduated, was not recognised in Malaysia. She retorted that Mahidol was among the top five universities in Asia. This was received with claps from the public gallery.

10.50am: Dr Pornthip said if a note was found, it was crucial for the police to examine it for fingerprints, palmprints and DNA immediately.

MACC counsel Datuk Abdul Razak Musa will begin questioning the pathologist soon.

10.35am: Dr Pornthip says she found several fractures in the pelvic area during the second autopsy, when the anal region was opened. The fractures could cause tears in the anus, she said. Injuries to buttock regions were from Teoh's fall, and not a beating.

9.50am: Selangor lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar begins questioning Dr Pornthip.

SHAH ALAM: Teoh Beng Hock may not have been fully conscious when falling due to the pattern of his leg injuries, Thai forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand testified at the inquest here Wednesday.

She also testified that the marks on Teoh's neck indicated a bigger force than manual strangulation may have been used.

Earlier, Dr Pornthip arrived with Teoh's family counsel Gobind Singh Deo and Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's research officer Tricia Yeoh, was flanked by several bodyguards.

The courtroom was packed to its full capacity with reporters, several DAP leaders and inquisitive members of the public.

The inquest started at 9.20am.

The renowned pathologist, who is engaged by the Selangor government, had first testified at the inquest last year, when she shocked the nation by opining that Teoh's death was 80% homicide.

She was supposed to testify again in April but declined after being advised against it by Thailand's Justice Ministry.

Teoh, the political secretary to state exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam here on July 16 last year.

This followed his overnight interrogation at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office on the 14th floor of the building, as part of investigations into alleged irregularities in the disbursement of state funds.

The Great Malaysian Sex Opera

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 07:11 AM PDT

My friend, Martin Jalleh wrote an interesting piece which unfortunately has been spiked by the online publications he's sent it to. I thought you might like to read it. So here it is...

Sodomy circus turns into a sex opera!

By Martin Jalleh

It seems that for the past few days the Attorney General (AG)'s Chambers have become somewhat like a boiler room after being hit by one steamy story after another. The AG, Gani Patail, has been going bonkers, berserk and ballistic, as a result of an unexpected hard blow below the belt by Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK).

The famous whistleblower, lid-blower and blogger had dropped a bombshell by alleging that the AG has been bonking the head of one of his divisions.Such news blew many away but RPK said their sexploits were nothing new. Many in the AG's Chambers have chosen to turn a blind eye to their boss' bonking.

The AG and partner have allegedly saved the nation's taxpayers money, as they would blissfully bunk, bonk and bond in the same hotel room during their frequent trips abroad.

We should not be bogged down by who is bonking whom, but when such basic or base instincts are allegedly displayed by the nation's top legal officer it becomes the rakyat's business!

This is especially so when the AG has been bonking from high moral ground of his Office whilst trying hard to banish Anwar Ibrahim into political oblivion with a bull-loaded sodomy charge.

Bonking Binge

The sex opera began with RPK alleging that the prosecution's star witness in Anwar's Sodomy II trial, Mohd Saiful Bukhar, was bonking Farah Azlina Latif, a deputy public prosecutor (DPP) involved in the case.

Was RPK bluffing? The AG begged not to comment but instead bundled Farah off to another division. Saiful and Farah bound themselves in silence, though Saiful could not stop babbling about the truth finally prevailing (and it really did!)

Anwar lodged a police report alleging that the "bonkers" had breached the law, especially the OSA. Karpal Singh, Anwar's lead lawyer, said the couple, if innocent, should be bold enough to verify what they have been accused of. The Court was duty bound to allow him to question them in Court.

Karpal also blasted the AG's Chambers: "Never before in the history of the country or in the Commonwealth has a DPP had an affair with the star witness". The brave legal tiger forgot for a moment that he was in Bolehland, where everything is beyond human comprehension!

The AG betrayed himself when he passed the baby on to Solicitor-General (SG) II Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden, who told the court that the prosecution was totally blur on the bonking. He accused Anwar of making "bare allegations" and insisted there was no miscarriage of justice!

Karpal countered that Anwar had "bare facts" and "hard evidence" that the two had bared and bonked. He urged the Court not to go soft on the prosecution. The naked truth they could stand no more -- is that their absolute lack of integrity has been exposed and credibility stripped to the very core!

The SG who was in the best position to respond to Anwar's affidavit seeking the dismissal of the case, or require Saiful and Farah to file an affidavit, bewildered everyone by passing the buck to his subordinate DPP Hanafiah Zakaria and Investigating Officer (IO) Supt Jude Pereira.

As expected, the Court, which has been perceived by the general public as subserviently doing the bidding of the political masters, bowed and bent backwards, much to the pleasure of those in the AG's Chambers.

Judge Zaibidin Diah found Anwar's allegations of the Saiful-Farah's sexual affair to be true but he ruled that the relationship did not compromise the case. He based this solely on the affidavits of the DPP and the IO. He rejected Anwar's application to strike out the sodomy charge.

We are asked by the Court to believe that Farah, a qualified lawyer, chosen to be on the high-powered prosecution team, to assist in such a high-profile case, was merely a note-taker and beyond reasonable doubt was not privy to crucial information on the case!

Further, surely the learned judge knows that great empires have fallen when forbidden secrets were released by a lover during pulsating and passionate bonking moments and pillow talk. From the charge sheet and on to the bed sheet surely much would have been spilled!

As for DPP Hanafiah, Karpal told the Court that the DPP's very own credibility was in question, alleging that the latter had had a second marriage in Thailand, and had tried to "legalise his marriage in Kota Bahru" and is therefore "guilty of committing an offence under the Syariah law"!

The IO had said that all investigation papers were strictly under his control. But who can trust the police nowadays? Even the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court had described Jude Pereira's boss, IGP Musa Hassan, "an incredible witness whose evidence is not to be believed"!

Monsters & Masterminds

The rakyat's heart goes out to Janna Syariza, the fiancée of Saiful. Once when referring to the sodomy case, she had very bravely declared that she will stand by her man through the "monstrous battle that is looming ahead", not realising that a "monster" was standing next to her.

RPK has also alleged in a blog posting "Just when you thought it is safe to go into the water", that Saiful is also bonking Khairil Annas Jusoh, an aide of Najib. The man had proudly posed with the sodomy accuser outside the PM's office when the latter went there "to apply for a scholarship"!

RPK revealed that after a one-month marriage, an on learning about the affair, Khairil's wife left him and "divorce is certainly on the cards". Will Janna Syariza, the fiancée of Saiful, be able to stomach and survive this third "storm"? She can be assured of the sympathies of many Malaysians.

One cannot but feel also for the fiancé of Farah who according to the Malaysian Chronicle is the assistant head of the prosecution unit in a northern state. They were engaged last year. Their marriage was due to take place on July 9.

A day before the marriage was due to be solemnized she asked for a cancellation, leaving her fiancé who had already sent out all the invitation cards stunned and heartbroken. Farah must have realized that she had gone too far!

Before we could even recover from the revelations of the shocking sex scandals of those who allow themselves to be used by the masterminds to destroy Anwar politically, RPK serves yet another sex sizzler and it involves the Attorney General himself!

Gani Patail must not remain silent. He must speak up and reveal whether it is just a spin (just like when almost everyone first thought that the Saiful-Farah sex liaison was one?). Not only his credibility and integrity is at stake, but also that of the Office of the Attorney General...and even the government!

Strangely enough the country's self-appointed moralists and religious authorities have also been very silent on the sex fest that has taken place. There have been no screams or shouts of zina or khalwat or interviews and investigations to be conducted. Perhaps they have all grown up?

If such secret sex trysts are really going on amongst those in the Chambers of the AG what would be left of the public's trust!

Free sex days

Nasrudin Hassan, PAS Youth Chief.
Free sex available during New Year celebrations.

Transcript

Hi, this is Patrick Teoh. I am constantly amazed at the problem solving abilities of Malaysian politicians. It doesn't matter if the issues are global warming, nuclear disarmament or just plain old SEX the YB's can come up with solutions just like that.

The latest example of this incredible and uniquely Malaysian talent is shown by the PAS Youth Chief, Nasrudin Hassan. He has just announced that the recent spate of baby dumping is caused by, among other decadent Western influences, Valentine's Day and New Year celebrations. He said these occasions encouraged liberal socialising and free sex, which resulted in the act of dumping babies. Oh really? Shit! And I have been staying home during New Year's Eve celebrations all these years? Fuck! If I knew there was so much free sex going round I might have been tempted to go out and get some as well. I wonder where he got the information from? Eh Nas, can share a bit ah? Never mind the liberal socialising bit I just want to know where the free sex is. Nasrudin also said that there were a high number of cases of couples caught for khalwat (close proximity) recorded during carnivals including the Merdeka Day celebrations. Fuck! That's another celebration that I should have joined in instead of watching it on TV.

Nasrudin claims that because there is a spike in baby dumping cases between July and September each year it must be an indication that the 'mating season' occurred during the New Year celebrations. Mating season?
That's what he thinks of us. We're just a bunch of fucking animals. Mating season!

And as usual Nasrudin blames the West for all this. He said that Valentine's Day and New Year celebrations originated from the West, did not "sit well with our country's traditions." They are of western origin and therefore does not sit well with our country's traidtions? Then what about computers, television, McDonald's, Coca Cola, trousers, air-conditioning, motorcars or Kap Cai's for that matter. Or do you think that the kap cai is a Japanese invention and is therefore okay?

But to be fair to the Nasrudin fler he did say something sensible at the end of it. He said that we must review the education system to teach youths how to apply their knowledge of subjects like morality in everyday life, rather than merely feeding them information all day in schools.

Thank goodness you're not all bullshit, Nasrudin. There are still some working brain cells in that skull of yours.

Niamah!!!

The Great Malaysian Sex Opera

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 06:20 AM PDT

My friend Martin Jalleh wrote an interesting piece which unfortunately has been spiked by online publications. I thought you might like to read it. So, here it is...

Punish ‘Racist’ Principal, Not Cover Up, Parents Demand - By Debra Chong.

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 06:09 AM PDT

Denying that it was a "misunderstanding", parents want the Education Ministry to take stern disciplinary action against the Johor school head accused of spouting racist slurs, claiming that it was not the first incident.

One parent even alleged the ministry was trying to "cover up" the case at SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in Kulai.

"Parents are very unhappy that the authorities are citing misinformation and misunderstanding that the headmistress had made the remarks. It wasn't a misunderstanding. Even the teachers have given their statement to the police. The teachers confirmed what has been reported by the students," a parent told The Malaysian Insider, refuting Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom's response yesterday that the case was just a misunderstanding and had been resolved.

"If it was, then why did the state Education Department tell her to make an open apology to the non-Malay students and teachers?" he asked, and related that principal Siti Inshah Mansor had been loudly booed by the student population in the attempt.

"The government is trying to cover it up," claimed the 46-year-old business consultant, who asked not to be named, fearing repercussions to his job.

The father of two said parents were mulling setting up a formal parent action group to pressure Putrajaya into action.

"Some disciplinary action must be taken. Even if not dismissal, at least demote her. If just transfer her out, it won't solve the problem. She has done in before. In her previous school, she called Indians Nigerians," he said, claiming Siti Inshah, who was formerly the principal of SMK Kelapa Sawit — another school in the same Kulai district — had been transferred out following similar complaints.

The police are currently investigating the case under section 504 of the Penal Code for provocation which carries a maximum imprisonment of two years, a fine or both.

A total of 17 complaints have been lodged with the police against the principal so far.

A copy of one report made last week and recently put up on the Malaysia-Today website listed several racist and derogatory remarks allegedly made by Siti Inshah, including likening Indian students wearing prayer threads on their person to dogs and ordering dissatisfied ethnic Chinese and Indian students to "return to China or India".

Part of the lengthy police report lodged by a 16-year-old student alleged: "She gave the example of owning a Proton Saga with two passengers who are Munusamy and Chong. Munusamy and Chong were only passengers. They cannot claim any right to the car. This is the same as Malaysia in which the non-Malay students are passengers."

Similar "racist" allegations have been reported made by senior civil servants, most notably by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's then-political aide Datuk Nasir Safar in January this year at a 1 Malaysia event, and signal a rise in racial tensions among Malaysia's multicultural society.

Free for all politics.

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 12:08 PM PDT

Malaysian politics seem to be like free for all. Main players UMNO, PAS, DAP, MCA, MIC,PKR pare the main players for the Peninsula while PBB,SUPP, PBRS, UPKO, PBS,LDP SAPP and others are players for East Malaysia.

Individuals in the Peninsula who of good consequence are Najib, Tengku Razaleigh Anwar, Muhyiddin, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Haji Hadi, Tok Guru Nik Aziz and Dr Wan Azizah are all names that one cannot leave out in the list of the men and women for the country.

Each of these names has an individual attributes and with individual character for Malaysian to choose to give him/her the trust to lead the nation. Gone have the days when leaders of BN in particular UMNO were the determinants of the nation politics and the direction as well as the goal the nation has to agree on.

Judging from the mood and tastes of the voters they are going for alternative leadership with alternative directions and spirit for a nation that claims to be independent and sovereign.

Firstly there is a need to find someone who is in person nice and compatible to talk serious issues about the nation. The person must be the one who is able to make any leader who is in serious mood to discuss matters pertaining to getting all Malaysian to be united. In other words of saying it, that some one has be a man with huge element of magnanimity with the heart for the people.

Another attribute is a person who understands all issues surrounding us in Malaysia and knows how to act based on right and accurate priority. And to find this person one has to know who among the many is having the outstanding testimonial records in his long or short record of public services.

Try to avoid rebel rouses to be in the short listing of names. But don't forget that he has to be Malay. Please delete any name that is perceived to be taking kick backs and any other forms of corruptions.

For the purpose of conducting elimination process on the long list, please don't consider anyone who is subservient his spouse or spouses if he has more than one. This is to ensure that his decision is purely his and not contaminated by the influence of his house mate or his soul mate.

To ensure that his soul mate does not interfere get some one who is married to a lady from a slightly better family so that she won't have the addiction for money and glamor, once her husband ascends to power.

We terminate the serious notes here. Let us go for a lighter side of our mood. Please exclude certain names for consideration to take on the mantle. The list is as follows; myself, Quiet Despair, Mahaza, schenker 78, bat8, red alfa, dinturtle, kluangman and a few more. We are automatic disqualifiers. Maybe we can include one of my fierce commentators' shamsul Anuar who never talk nonsense. (Just joking bros).

Now, if kluangman offers us a 'buka puasa' treat at any clean 'warong', that would be more quenching for us. Let us all accept the treat if he offers.

Yaakob: Khir's 'blue team' never curbed sand theft

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 04:59 AM PDT

Selangor executive council member Yaakob Sapari dismissed the claim by former MB Khir Toyo that his 'blue team' checked the spread of illegal sand mining in the state, which Khir described as 'rampant' under Pakatan rule. Last Saturday Khir, who is also state Umno chief, hit out at the Selangor government for disbanding the 'blue team' enforcement unit which he said operated under his tenure and was successful in monitoring and curbing sand theft. Charge a man for theft of a chicken, evidence is theft of a duck: Karpal

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 03:41 AM PDT

Karpal Singh: "You charge a man for the theft of a chicken and the evidence is theft of a duck" The Federal Court departed from normal practise today and accepted a two-page "broad reasons" decision of the Court of Appeal to hear Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's appeal against the lower court's dismissal of his plea for the witness statement of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. Normally, the nation's highest court would rely on the detailed grounds of judgment before deciding to hear an appeal. However, in an unusual development, the Federal Court agreed to accept the two-page decision titled "broad reasons", handed down by a three-member bench of the Court of Appeal on June 25, as the basis for the grounds of the lower court's decision in rejecting Anwar's appeal. Logic Cooked Up To A Tee - By Kee Thuan Chye.

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 05:28 AM PDT

The Mingguan Malaysia columnist Ridhuan Tee Abdullah is a PhD holder, but, judging by his recent assault on Helen Ang for her piece 'Enforcing NEP on Minority Religions', his thinking seems hardly logical. Some of the points he makes in his column 'Jangan Terlalu Berani Mencabar' (Don't Be Too Brave to Challenge) are reflective of a bankrupt intellect.

He does, however, make a case for Islamic values and the tolerance inherent in the religion's teachings, which I agree with. I believe that Islam preaches tolerance and does not oppress. I have high respect for the true Islam. It is the people who misinterpret its tenets and practise it in unsavoury ways who give it a negative image.

Such people include those who would make it hard for non-Muslims to form religious societies in national schools, which is the crux of Helen Ang's article. They also include those who would remove Christian icons from missionary schools and confiscate crucifixes worn by students. True practitioners of Islam would not do these things.

Neither would true Malaysians, those who abide by Articles 3 and 11 of the Federal Constitution which guarantee freedom of religion and the peaceable practice of all religions.

But how does Tee defend these unconstitutional acts? He says, "It's not a big issue if the identity of the colonialists, like the symbol of the cross, is changed for a local one. Isn't it necessary to Malaysianise such attributes in line with the local identity? Why do we still want to maintain the colonial identity?" [Bukanlah menjadi isu besar jika identiti penjajah seperti lambang salib ditukar kepada identiti tempatan. Tidakkah ia perlu diMalaysiakan sifatnya sesuai dengan keadaan masyarakat di sini? Kenapa masih mahu mengekalkan identiti penjajah?]

Is he being dense or is he deliberately confusing the point? The symbol of the cross is not colonial identity, it is the symbol of Christianity. How do you "Malaysianise" that? He is obviously speaking out of turn, if not rubbish.

Worse, he extrapolates it into something bigger, something that was never an issue in the first place: "Do we simply reject assimilation, even a little bit? Does the majority not have rights in the view of the minority?" [Apakah kita langsung menolak asimilasi walaupun sedikit? Apakah majoriti langsung tidak ada hak dalam masyarakat minoriti?]

No one has ever said anything about rejecting assimilation, or that the minority consider the majority as having no rights. All Ang is asking for in her article is that non-Muslim religious societies be allowed in schools as they used to be before. This kind of extrapolation is a tactic we have often seen being used by alarmists and ultras. Perhaps it's a first here for a PhD holder.

There's more. In response to Ang's remark that if she were a mother, she would not send her children to national schools to have their race, traditions and faith beliefs disparaged, Tee says: "She doesn't need to send her 'children' (if she has children who are legitimate) to a national school, if she has no confidence in national schools …" [Beliau tidak perlu menghantar 'anak'nya (jika ada anak sah taraf) ke sekolah kebangsaan, jika dia tidak yakin dengan sekolah kebangsaan …]

Tee's insinuation that Ang may have illegitimate children is a low blow, and totally uncalled-for and irrelevant. And insulting.

Unfair comparison with Singapore

This comes after he has made an obnoxious sweeping statement: "There's only one thing I ask of her and her community – practise the teachings of their religion by eschewing gambling, adultery, free sex, etc. Then this country will be peaceful." [Satu sahaja yang saya pinta agar beliau dan sekutunya, beramal dengan ajaran agama mereka dengan menjauhi judi, arak, zina, seks bebas dan lain-lain. Barulah aman negara ini.]

What does he mean by this? Which community is he insulting? What is the relevance of this remark to the debate at hand? Is this person who holds a doctorate so incapable of dealing with the points related to the issue that he has to resort to personal insult?

Is he alleging that non-Muslims gamble, commit adultery, indulge in free sex and bear illegitimate children, and that that is the cause of the lack of peace in the country? Is he provoking non-Muslims to cry sedition? Does he not realise that he is insulting Ang's morality and her religion by making these absurd and uncalled-for assumptions? Is that the strategy for a civilised intellectual debate?

Is it also Tee's strategy to make a personal attack on Ang? "To say that she's proud of her ancestry would not be right either, because she prefers to use a white man's name although she has slit eyes." [Nak kata beliau bangga dengan keturunannya, tidak juga, sebab beliau lebih gemar menggunakan nama Mat Salleh walaupun matanya begitu sepet.] You mean, he's not aware of the existence of Christian names?

That aside, there are at least a couple of other things that he needs to be enlightened on.

One concerns the Malays of Singapore. He alleges that Singapore was stolen (dirampas) from them and that they have accepted it quietly, even though Muslim and Malay rights are gradually being withdrawn (dicabut) and eroded (terhakis). He even says these rights are being diluted (dicairkan) by the Singapore Malays themselves.

This shows Tee's lack of understanding of History 101. Singapore was not stolen from the Malays. In 1965, it was agreed to that Singapore would secede from Malaysia, a move that in fact caused its leader, Lee Kuan Yew, to shed tears. It was a move agreed to by the Alliance, spearheaded by Umno, which was led then by Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Now that Tee has been duly informed, perhaps he should take up the case against Umno, the Alliance (which has since become Barisan Nasional – also History 101) and the Tunku.

Why does he sneer at the Singapore Malays? By all accounts, they are happy being where they are. Hasn't he read the recent testimonies of Malays in Singapore saying how much better off they are there? How about the one by the Berita Harian editor Guntor Sadali? For Tee's benefit, here are some excerpts:

"For Malays in Singapore, power is not about wielding the keris. For us, knowledge is … THE real power … We do not believe in getting any special treatment, because it would only reduce the value of our achievements and lower our dignity … Dr Mahathir [Mohamad] and some Malay leaders across the Causeway do not like the way we do things here and have therefore warned Malaysian Malays not to be like us. On our part, there is certainly no turning back. Meritocracy has proven to be a good and fair system. It pushes us to work hard and makes us proud of our achievements. We can see how it has benefitted us by looking at the growing number of doctors, lawyers, magistrates, engineers, corporate leaders and other professionals among us … So, the question is: Shouldn't our friends and relatives across the Causeway be like us – Malays in Singapore? … We need to help and strengthen each other while at the same time reach out to the other communities in multi-racial, multi-religious Singapore. A successful and prosperous Singapore can only mean a successful and prosperous Malay community. Can we do it? Well, to borrow US President Barack Obama's campaign slogan, 'Yes, we can.'"

That is truly positive thinking, which is so refreshingly different from the chasing-at-shadows, dog-in-the-manger mentality demonstrated by Tee. So who is Tee to tell the Singapore Malays what to do?

Stop the narrow compartmentalisation

And who is Tee to tell Helen Ang to go back to her homeland, meaning, to him, China? Ang has no other homeland than Malaysia. She was born here, raised here, has lived here her whole life. This is her homeland as much as it is Tee's. What makes Tee so special that he can tell her to go home?

If one wants to get personal, one could even say that Tee's ancestors also came from China and therefore his homeland, by his own reckoning, should be China. But that would be going down to his level, and I'm not a PhD holder. Perhaps he hasn't heard the saying, "People who live in glass houses should not undress."

CIMB's CEO, Nazir Razak, recently told the Chinese Economic Congress that the family of Tan Siok Choo whose grandfather was Tan Cheng Lock, one of the leaders of Malaya's independence, came to settle in this country even earlier than his own.

This means that Tan's family was here even earlier than our prime minister Najib Razak's family, since Nazir is his brother. Doesn't it make nonsense of Tee's point that Najib can become prime minister when a Chinese person like Ang cannot speak the truth without being told to go back to China?

And what is this hogwash he says about Lina Joy? That since she cannot be considered Malay any more by leaving Islam, because the Federal Constitution defines a Malay as being someone who professes the Islamic religion, she is no longer eligible to live in this country because she has no race? Where is it written that you need to belong to a race to live in Malaysia?

Really, it is this fixation on the issue of race that has brought our country into a fine mess.

As Tee came from an ethnic Chinese background, he should understand this quite well. If he is a true scholar, he would celebrate diversity rather than settle for narrow compartmentalisation.

After all, Islam celebrates diversity and accepts all the different kinds of people and cultures that God created on Earth. Shouldn't Tee follow that Islamic spirit?

Why Malaysia has gone to the dogs (1)

Posted: 19 Aug 2010 12:02 PM PDT

When Nik Ali, the Penang SDO made not only an outrageous biadap speech against Lim Guan Eng, a people's representative elected by the rakyat, unlike him an employed civil servant who is nothing more than unrepresentative swill, but made that vile speech at an UMNO forum, he should have been chastised if not sacked for violating the Civil Service code of conduct by the Chief Secretary.

Instead Mohd Sidek defended him.

Given that this is Malaysia, it was not totally unexpected, but nonetheless the brazen disregard by Mohd Sidek of Nik Ali's breach of the civil service code of conduct in his unprofessional politically partisan behaviour was still breathtaking.

The subtext was: Fuck you Chief Minister, what can you bloody do – siapa raja!

Tun Ghazali Shafie, one of the luminaries of the MCS would have turned in his grave in shame and despair at the current pathetic and unprofessional standard of his once-proud service.

No wonder that unprofessional biadap product of the BTN is still in the thick of sabotaging a lawfully elected state government – read MIKINI's New BN move ruffles feathers in Komtar penned by my Penang larng Susan Loone.

Not only is the wicked man sabotaging the functioning of the state government, he has introduced a procedure where the state government has to get the approval of 'coordinators' when applying for housing and local government allocations.

It so happens that the 'coordinators' are all BN politicians, some of whom were defeated in the last general election.

So a little Napoleon has now introduced a procedure where the representatives elected by the rakyat have to go with begging bowl to those rejected by the rakyat. I suppose he'll be promoted eventually for his subversion and perversion of the democratic process.

Penangites, just remember this in the next election. Please remember this has been allowed, perhaps even encouraged by Najib's government, and indeed remember also that both MCA and Gerakan have remained complicitly silent.

This shameful unsavoury outcome is not unique but has been a recurrent nightmare in the dealings of a Malaysian Civil Service allowed to run out of control.

The chief culprit is the Chief Secretary, with the IGP a close second.

We just read about a brash belligerent brutal MACC prosecutor Abdul Razak Musa yesterday who brought unbelievable shame and disgrace to our nation as he made a fool of himself in front of a foreigner.

When he was demonstrating his art of self strangulation to Gobind Deo it's a pity that he didn't continue the demonstration to its absolute completion. That would have definitely improved the gene pool nurtured by the insidious BTN. But I wait to hear of his undoubted promotion, perhaps even as the next Chief Justice or if he chooses to come out as a politician, a future AG.

We have also seen the appalling racism of Siti Inshah Mansor, a school's principal in Kulai Johor, who was immediately defended and cleared by the Education director-general Alimuddin Mohd Dom. Alimuddin dismissed the seditious crime as a mere misunderstanding (then why did she apologise?) and even lied that the issue of racism was settled.

Well, I'll leave out Lim Kit Siang for this one but suffice to say that parents of the students vilified, MIC and even BN Youth have all disagreed. They want the head of Siti Inshah because posting her away to another school means cursing that school with the bile of this vile creature.

The great Chua Soi Lek only asked for her to be counselled - sweet of you, Chua.

Let's not forget the government employed clergy, for example the Perak Mufti who nearly caused a religious-racial riot a few years back for his seditious lies, and then lacked the balls to accept responsibility for that very dangerous fiasco but instead blamed it on a woman (p'tui, malulah, mana anak jantan).

He amazes us (but then again, perhaps not) for being elevated from Datuk to Tan Sri after committing such a sin (both religious and legal) – is there a immoral lesson somewhere in his honorific promotion?

Isn't the Mufti afraid of Allah swt for lying in the name of religion? Silly question, I suppose not.

These are the people manning our Civil Service – frightening isn't it? And we wonder why the nation has gone to the dogs.

Kurang mampu, kurang profesyionel, kurang jujur, kurang bersopan santun. Tetapi penuh dengan tindakan dan tingkah laku malu. Wakakaka.

And when Chua Soi Lek criticised Lim Guan Eng for his problems with that SDO, I accept that a MCA chief would always try to find fault with a DAP leader and vice versa, because that's part and parcel of politics.

But the sad and disappointing thing about Chua, during his criticism of Lim GE, was that he failed to mention one single word about the biadap-ness of a feral defiant and disgraceful public servant, Nik Ali, and his equally shameless boss, Mohd Sidek.

Therein in Chua's cringe lies the answer to why today only 9% of Chinese see in him as a credible leader of the community. And where was Koh TK?

F* them, I'm gonna grab a beer.
